From search engine optimisation to search engine marketing management: development of a new area for information systems research
Search Engine Optimisation was a term used by web developers in the late 90s to highlight the importance of increasing a website’s position in search engines’ results. Further development of the Internet in terms of the diversity of its users and uses such as e-commerce, blogging and wikis have highlighted the need for technical staff to work more closely with marketing professionals resulting in a new area of work – Search Engine Marketing Management.
The paper highlights the emerging role of Search Engine Marketing Management as a new and increasingly important area for future information systems researchers and research. Reaching beyond the 'simple' undifferentiated goal of increasing visitors to a website, a mature perspective of marketing is developing - that of realising strategic marketing objectives. The practical contribution of this paper is found in the development of awareness among management roles of the importance and nuances of search engines and the tactics required to harness the benefits of multiple online communication channels within organisational marketing strategy
Sequence Instability in the Proviral Long Terminal Repeat and gag Regions from Peripheral Blood and Tissue-Derived Leukocytes of FIV-Infected Cats during the Late Asymptomatic Phase.
Feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) infection results in viral persistence, a prolonged asymptomatic phase, and progressive immunopathology. During the asymptomatic phase, a cohort of experimentally FIV-infected cats exhibits features of viral latency in blood suggestive of inactive viral replication. We sought to investigate viral replication activity and genomic stability of the FIV proviral long terminal repeat (LTR) and the 5' aspect of gag over time. FIV-infected cats during the asymptomatic phase demonstrated undetectable plasma FIV gag RNA transcripts and intermittent to undetectable blood-derived cell-associated FIV gag RNA. The LTR sequence demonstrated instability in blood-derived cells over time, in spite of low to undetectable viral replication. Sequence variation in the LTR was identified in CD4+ and CD21+ leukocytes from blood and surgically removed lymph nodes. Three single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the LTR were commonly identified. Promoter functionality of a common LTR SNP and rare U3 mutation were examined by reporter gene assays and demonstrated either no change or increased basal FIV promoter function, respectively. In conclusion, this cohort of asymptomatic FIV-infected cats demonstrated instability of the LTR and 5' gag sequences during the study period, in spite of undetectable plasma and rare to undetectable viral gag RNA, which suggests that blood may not accurately represent viral activity in asymptomatic FIV-infected cats

A Correlation Between Inclination and Color in the Classical Kuiper Belt
We have measured broadband optical BVR photometry of 24 Classical and
Scattered Kuiper belt objects (KBOs), approximately doubling the published
sample of colors for these classes of objects. We find a statistically
significant correlation between object color and inclination in the Classical
Kuiper belt using our data. The color and inclination correlation increases in
significance after the inclusion of additional data points culled from all
published works. Apparently, this color and inclination correlation has not
been more widely reported because the Plutinos show no such correlation, and
thus have been a major contaminant in previous samples. The color and
inclination correlation excludes simple origins of color diversity, such as the
presence of a coloring agent without regard to dynamical effects.
Unfortunately, our current knowledge of the Kuiper belt precludes us from
understanding whether the color and inclination trend is due to environmental
factors, such as collisional resurfacing, or primordial population effects. A
perihelion and color correlation is also evident, although this appears to be a
spurious correlation induced by sampling bias, as perihelion and inclination
are correlated in the observed sample of KBOs.Comment: Accepted to Astrophysical Journal Letter
Integrated Measurement of Soil Moisture by Use of Radio Waves
An integrated value of soil moisture can be determine dby measuring the attenuation of vertically-polarized surface radio waves taht are propagated over the ground between a transmitting and receiving atenna. Soil moisture values in the root-zone region were measured over longitudinal distances typically ranging from 50 feet to 600 feet with good results. Integrated soil moisture measurements over greater distances are also possible. Received field strength of propaged radio surface waves closely matches theoretical calculations. The measurement is easily made and does not disturb the soil. Dense, green vegetation, such as alfalfa or corn, causes errors in measurement accuracy. Less dense vegetation, such as range land, does not seriously affect measurement accuracy. The described equipment is portable and can be used by an unskilled operator
Hydrologic Instrumentation and Telemetering
The following report discusses the various phases of work carried out by the Utah State University under a cooperative agreement contract with the Soil Conservation Service for the period extending from June 1965 to June1966.
The body of the report discusses instrumentation techniques employed for the remote telemetering of total precipitation and water content of snow. Discussion of performance of a new type pressure pillow is also given for measuring the water content of snow. Data taken during system evaluation is presented in the Appendix
Design of a Cost Effective Solar Powered Water Pump
The design and performance of a vacuum lift, solar powered water pump is discussed. The basic design consists of an expanding gaseous piston confined inside a chamber which is located in series with, and between an inlet and an outlet check value. The gas is generated by volatilizing cyclopentane or hexane. Four variations of this basic design concept were built and evaluated. The various features of each are discussed. Considerations in the choice of a cost-effective solar collector are also reviewed. Several of the more promising types of solar collectors were built and evaluated for use on the pump. A 70°C heat source temperature is required to operate the pump if cyclopentane is used as the volatile fluid, 90°C is required if hexane is used. The volatile fluid is not expended in the pumping process. The pumps constructed on this project have a capacity of approximately 6 liters/minute when pumped to a height of 2 meters. Two square meters of sunshine are sufficient to operate the pump

Hydro-meteorological instrumentation concepts are discussed. The necessity for an economic and reliable telemetering system is recognized and ways are shown how to achieve this objective. Particular discussion is given on total-precipitation and water-content-of-snow sensing. A method is also presented showing how to make isohyetal plots of telemetered precipitation information on an x-y plotter by use of a resistance paper method in conjunction with an analog computer
