    Development of a Ta/TaN/TaNx(Ag)y/TaN nanocomposite coating system and bio-response study for biomedical applications

    [EN] TaN(Ag) composited coatings are being investigated to improve biocompatibility of different biomedical devices due to the mechanical and chemical stability of TaN and bactericidal effect of silver nanoparticles. However, controlling the size, density, shape and especially the release of silver ions (Ag) into the surrounding medium becomes a challenge, since elevated levels of Ag could be cytotoxic. The aim of this work is to design and develop a new Ta/TaN/TaNx(Ag)y/TaN coating system, deposited by unbalanced DC magnetron sputtering technique, presenting an adequate balance between biocompatibility and bactericidal effect for potential applications in biomedical field. For this purpose, four different coating systems were deposited on 316 L stainless steel and silicon (100) samples applying a bias voltage of ¿30, ¿60, ¿90 and ¿120 V during the deposition of the top layer of TaN to vary its density. This manufacturing strategy allowed controlling the diffusion of silver nanoparticles to the coating surface and the release kinetics of silver ions in simulated body fluid (SBF). Biologic characterization has been performed with MC3T3-E1 pre-osteoblastic cells in terms of cell adhesion and long-term differentiation. Additionally, the adhesion and biofilm formation of the bacteria Streptococcus sanguinis strain in the deposited coating systems of Ta/TaN/TaNx(Ag)y/TaN were analyzed. The results indicated an improvement of cell adhesion and differentiation of the composited coating deposited with a bias of ¿30 V compared to other coatings. Concordantly, this coating showed the lowest bacterial adhesion and biofilm formation, representing an attractive and suitable composited material for biomedical applications.The technical support from the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (MINECO) (through the MAT2015-69315-C3-1-R) and FEDER funds project are acknowledged.     Predictors Of Positivity Of [F-18]F-Choline PET-CT In Prostate Cancer Recurrence. Preliminary Results

    EP-173 Aim/Introduction: To analyze the validity of [18F]F-Choline PET-CT results in prostate cancer recurrence in our daily practice, based on theoretical cut-off points of prostatespecific antigen (PSA), its kinetic, and PSA doubling time (PSADT), to identify predictors of positivity and modify the indication criteria. Materials and Methods: Prior to the validity analysis, a descriptive, prospective analysis of consecutive patients with prostate cancer treated with curative intent by radical prostatectomy (RP) or radiotherapy (RT), who underwent PET-CT scan with recurrence criteria: PSA =1 or PSA 0.4-1 with PSADT Nadir + 2 after RT, was performed. Results: From April to December 2019, 69 patients were included, 40 were treated with RP (58%) and 29 with RT (42%). In 45 patients (65%) PET-CT was able to identify recurrence of the disease (positive PET) and in 24 it was not (negative PET). Of patients treated with RP, 82, 5% (33/40) had PSA>1, and of those, 61% were positive PET. 17, 5% (7/40) had PSA6months (28/69), in 71% if PSADT6 months, in 61% and 92% if PSADT<6 months and in 77% and 100% if PSADT<3 months. Conclusion: Preliminarily and awaiting validation, it seems that PSA>1 after RP or Nadir +2 after RT is an indicator of PET-CT. There seems to be a tendency that shows that PSA<1 after RP is an indicator of PET-CT if PSADT<3 months. PSADT <3 or <6 months could be the best predictor of positivity of PET-CT with [18F]F-Choline in recurrent prostate cancer

    Double-exchange is not the cause of ferromagnetism in doped manganites

    The coexistence of ferromagnetism and metallic conduction in doped manganites has long been explained by a double-exchange model in which the ferromagnetic exchange arises from the carrier hopping. We evaluate the zero-temperature spin stiffness D(0) and the Curie temperature T_{C} on the basis of the double-exchange model using the measured values of the bare bandwidth W and the Hund's rule coupling J_{H}. The calculated D(0) and T_{C} values are too small compared with the observed ones even in the absence of interactions. A realistic onsite interorbital Coulomb repulsion can reduce D(0) substantially in the case of a 2-orbital model. Furthermore, experiment shows that D(0) is simply proportional to x in La_{1-x}Sr_{x}MnO_{3} system, independent of whether the ground state is a ferromagnetic insulator or metal. These results strongly suggest that the ferromagnetism in manganites does not originate from the double-exchange interaction. On the other hand, an alternative model based on the d-p exchange can semi-quantitatively explain the ferromagnetism of doped manganites at low temperatures.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures, some modifications in scientific content

    Search for Low-Mass Quark-Antiquark Resonances Produced in Association with a Photon at s =13 TeV

    A search for narrow low-mass resonances decaying to quark-antiquark pairs is presented. The search is based on proton-proton collision events collected at 13 TeV by the CMS detector at the CERN LHC. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb-1, recorded in 2016. The search considers the case where the resonance has high transverse momentum due to initial-state radiation of a hard photon. To study this process, the decay products of the resonance are reconstructed as a single large-radius jet with two-pronged substructure. The signal would be identified as a localized excess in the jet invariant mass spectrum. No evidence for such a resonance is observed in the mass range 10 to 125 GeV. Upper limits at the 95% confidence level are set on the coupling strength of resonances decaying to quark pairs. The results obtained with this photon trigger strategy provide the first direct constraints on quark-antiquark resonance masses below 50 GeV obtained at a hadron collider

    Search for MSSM Higgs bosons decaying to μ+μ− in proton-proton collisions at s=13TeV

    A search is performed for neutral non-standard-model Higgs bosons decaying to two muons in the context of the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM). Proton-proton collision data recorded by the CMS experiment at the CERN Large Hadron Collider at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV were used, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9fb. The search is sensitive to neutral Higgs bosons produced via the gluon fusion process or in association with a bb‾ quark pair. No significant deviations from the standard model expectation are observed. Upper limits at 95% confidence level are set in the context of the m and phenomenological MSSM scenarios on the parameter tan⁡β as a function of the mass of the pseudoscalar A boson, in the range from 130 to 600 GeV.     Search for resonant t t ¯ production in proton-proton collisions at √s=13 TeV

    A search for a heavy resonance decaying into a top quark and antiquark (tt¯) pair is performed using proton-proton collisions at s√=13 TeV. The search uses the data set collected with the CMS detector in 2016, which corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb−1. The analysis considers three exclusive final states and uses reconstruction techniques that are optimized for top quarks with high Lorentz boosts, which requires the use of nonisolated leptons and jet substructure techniques. No significant excess of events relative to the expected yield from standard model processes is observed. Upper limits on the production cross section of heavy resonances decaying to a tt¯ pair are calculated. Limits are derived for a leptophobic topcolor Z′ resonance with widths of 1, 10, and 30%, relative to the mass of the resonance, and exclude masses up to 3.80, 5.25, and 6.65 TeV, respectively. Kaluza-Klein excitations of the gluon in the Randall-Sundrum model are excluded up to 4.55 TeV.     Search for new physics in top quark production in dilepton final states in proton-proton collisions at √s=13TeV

    A search for new physics in top quark production is performed in proton-proton collisions at 13TeV. The data set corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 35.9fb-1 collected in 2016 with the CMS detector. Events with two opposite-sign isolated leptons (electrons or muons), and b quark jets in the final state are selected. The search is sensitive to new physics in top quark pair production and in single top quark production in association with a W boson. No significant deviation from the standard model expectation is observed. Results are interpreted in the framework of effective field theory and constraints on the relevant effective couplings are set, one at a time, using a dedicated multivariate analysis.     Search for top quark partners with charge 5/3 in the same-sign dilepton and single-lepton final states in proton-proton collisions at √s=13 TeV

    A search for the pair production of heavy fermionic partners of the top quark with charge 5/3 (X5/3 ) is performed in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV with the CMS detector at the CERN LHC. The data sample analyzed corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb−1 . The X5/3 quark is assumed always to decay into a top quark and a W boson. Both the right-handed and left-handed X5/3 couplings to the W boson are considered. Final states with either a pair of same-sign leptons or a single lepton are studied. No significant excess of events is observed above the expected standard model background.     Search for narrow Hγ resonances in proton-proton collisions at s =13 TeV

    A search for heavy, narrow resonances decaying to a Higgs boson and a photon (Hγ) has been performed in proton-proton collision data at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb-1 collected with the CMS detector at the LHC in 2016. Events containing a photon and a Lorentz-boosted hadronically decaying Higgs boson reconstructed as a single, large-radius jet are considered, and the γ+jet invariant mass spectrum is analyzed for the presence of narrow resonances. To increase the sensitivity of the search, events are categorized depending on whether or not the large-radius jet can be identified as a result of the merging of two jets originating from b quarks. Results in both categories are found to agree with the predictions of the standard model. Upper limits on the production rate of Hγ resonances are set as a function of their mass in the range of 720-3250 GeV, representing the most stringent constraints to date
