Accountability Relations in Minipublics and Organizers

    Get PDF
This paper aims to understand accountability relations in minipublics. It shows that accountability might be weak for their participants, but not for their organizers. It discusses accountability in a descriptive fashion as a relational concept that can be weak or strong depending on the weight of sanctions. In addition, deliberative accountability has a separate section. While the deliberative accountability of deliberators is obvious, the deliberative accountability of organizers is not discussed much, yet it is an important expectation from organizers. This will be clearer when various accountability relations in the context of minipublics are fleshed out by asking who is accountable to whom and for what?. The final section will raise three points. Firstly, trust-based selection model of principal-agent accountability (Mansbridge 2009, 2014) will be discussed as it seems to offer us a different perspective on the weak accountability of participants and points at the importance of selection done by organizers. Secondly, it will be argued that the empowerment of minipublics is an important determinant of whether we want stronger accountability mechanisms in minipublics. Finally, it will be argued that organizers might be held accountable for the decisions made by an empowered minipublic

Organik tarım, insanların sağlıklı beslenmesinin yanı sıra toprak verimliliğini artıracak her türlü organik artıkların değerlendirilmesi ve tarımda devamlılığın sağlanması açısından büyük önem arz etmektedir.

Exoskeleton type finger rehabilitation robots are helpful in assisting the treatment of tendon injuries. A survey has been carried out with engineers and health professionals to further develop an existing finger exoskeleton prototype. The goal of the study is to better understand the relative importance of several design criteria through the analysis of survey results and to improve the finger exoskeleton accordingly. The survey questions with strong correlations are identified and the preferences of the two respondent groups are statistically compared. The results of the statistical analysis are interpreted and insights obtained are used to guide the design process. The answers to the qualitative questions are also discussed together with their design implications. Finally, Quality Function Deployment (QFD) has been employed for visualizing these functional requirements in relation to the customer requirements

Propose of this study is evaluation of effect on ball driving and passing applied isometric strength with dynamic strength training in young baseball players. This study participated 14 male (mean age: 16.75 ± 0.4, height: 176.0 ± 5.6 cm, weight: 71.6 ± 14.4 kg, fitness age: 3.5 ± 0.8 years) was separated homogeneous 7 person group. Both groups was trained 3 days a week 2 hours throughout 8 weeks. While one of the groups doing isometric strenght training, other performed training with dynamic strenght training method. Effect of both training was evaluated by baseboll dribbling and passing tests. According to non-parametric method statistical analsis of the groups among themselves calculated Wilcoxon test and intergroups analysis calculated  Mann Whitney U test. Significant difference, statistically valued at p: 0,018, is found in the valuation between dribble pre and posttest of Isometric strength group. Significant difference statistically valued at p: 0,026 , is found in the valuation between pass pre and posttest. Significant difference, statistically valued at p: 0,026, is found in the valuation between dribble pre and posttest of dynamic strength group. Significant difference statistically valued at p: 0,017, is found in the valuation between pass pre and posttest. While there is found p:0,016 valued significant difference in dribble test, there isn’t found p:0,304 valued significant difference in pass test. ÖzetBu çalışmanın amacı genç basketbolculara uygulanan izometrik kuvvete karşın dinamik kuvvet antrenmanlarının top sürme ve pas isabetine etkisinin incelenmesi olarak belirlenmiştir.Çalışmaya katılan 14 erkek sporcu (yaş 16.75 ± 0.4 yıl, boy 176.0 ± 5.6 cm, beden ağırlığı 71.6 ± 14.4 kg, antrenman yaşı 3.5 ± 0.8) homojen 7 şer kişilik gruba ayrılmıştır. Her iki gruba 8 hafta boyunca haftada 3 gün 2 saatlik antrenman yaptırılmıştır.

Attractive versus Repulsive Excitonic Interactions of Colloidal Quantum Dots Control Blue- to Red-Shifting (and Non-shifting) Amplified Spontaneous Emission

    Get PDF
Tunable, high-performance, two-photon absorption (TPA)-based amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) from near-unity quantum efficiency colloidal quantum dots (CQDs) is reported. Besides the absolute spectral tuning of ASE, the relative spectral tuning of ASE peak with respect to spontaneous emission was shown through engineering excitonic interactions in quasi-type-II CdSe/CdS core/shell CQDs. With core shell size adjustments, it was revealed that Coulombic exciton-exciton interactions can be tuned to be attractive (type-I-like) or repulsive (type-II-like) leading to red- or blue-shifted ASE peak, respectively, and that nonshifting ASE can be achieved with the right core shell combinations. The possibility of obtaining ASE at a specific wavelength from both type-I-like and type-II-like CQDs was also demonstrated. The experimental observations were supported by parametric quantum-mechanical modeling, shedding light on the type-tunability. These excitonically engineered CQD-solids exhibited TPA-based ASE threshold as low as 6.5 mJ/cm(2) under 800 nm excitation, displaying one of the highest values of TPA cross-section of 44 660 GM

Comparison of efficacy and safety of generic plerixafor vs original plerixafor in the mobilization of myeloma patients

Introduction The commonest indication for an Autologous Stem Cell Transplantation (ASCT) is still Multiple Myeloma. A successful mobilization of hematopoietic stem cells (HSC) is a sine qua non of ASCT. The introduction of Plerixafor, which is a partial agonist of the alfa-chemokine receptor CXCR4 has added an important value and impact on mobilization. Plerixafor is successfully integrated into both growth factor-only and cyclophosphamide and growth factor mobilization strategies with significantly reducing the mobilization failure rate in myeloma patients. In addition, plerixafor + G-CSF has also been shown to successfully mobilize the majority of patients who previously failed to mobilize with either growth factor alone or in combination with chemotherapy. Even a Just-in-Time algorithm which induces plerixafor in patients who lacks a certain threshold of CD34 positive HSCs on the day of mobilization led to a cost-effective and successful mobilization with highly restricted rates of mobilization failure. In this study we tried to demonstrate the efficacy and safety of a novel generic Plerixafor (Pleksor - Gen Ilac) and to compare it with original one (Mozobil - Sanofi) in a retrospective manner. Method Patients who were transplanted in two centers who adopted the same mobilization standard operating procedures (SOP) were included in the study. An age and sex matched cohort of patients who received Mozobil (from 2020-2022 - Group A) were compared with the ones who received Pleksor (2021-2022 Group B) as a Just-in-Time conjunct to GCSF alone or chemo mobilization. Poor mobilization was defined as a final yield of 2 million CD34 positive HSCs per kg. Our aim was to collect enough stem cells for at least two ASCTs, thus our current SOP's indicated a minimum CD34 positive HSC threshold of at least 4 million per kg and an ideal HSC threshold of 6 million per kg. Results A total of 28 patients were included and they were equally distributed among Group A (n=14) and B (n=14). Median age of the patients at the time of mobilization were as follows, 60 (35-72) in Group A and 61 (38-70) in Group B. 14 patients who received Pleksor achieved a median yield of 8.40 million CD34 positive HSCs per kg (4.8-21) and the patients who received Mozobil have ended with a yield of 6.7 million CD34 positive HSCs per kg (4.5-13) (p=0.210). None of the patients in both groups were named to be a poor mobilizer according to the threshold of 2 million CD34 positive HSCs per kg but 3 of the patients in Group A and 2 of the patients in Group B ended with a yield of 6 million CD34 positive cells which was below to the ideal threshold for two transplants. Regarding lenalidomide exposure before mobilization, history of radiotherapy, line of the therapies received before mobilization, number of leukapheresis and the mobilization policy (chemo vs gcsf alone) there were no statistically significant difference between two groups (p=0.120, 0.702, 0.842, 0.769 and 0.420 respectively). The median neutrophil engraftment time in days were as follows for Group A and B, 11(10-14) vs 11 (10-16), p=0.541 and the median platelet engraftment time in days were 17 (10-30) in Group A and 16 (10-28) in Group B with a p value of 0.571. In none of the cases any specific side effects were noted which could be attributable to Pleksor or Mozobil. Conclusion Our study demonstrated a comparable efficacy of a generic form of Plerixafor when compared with the originator. This would lead to a decrease in the cost of total process of mobilization with a similar efficacy and toxicity profile. We are now planning to initiate a prospective trial to validate these results in a larger patient population. Up to our knowledge this is the first study comparing the efficacy of a generic Plerixafor in a sole myeloma patient cohort
