Emotions are an important aspect of teachers’ professional work, and therefore, developing their emotional competences is an important element of teacher training. The aim of the article is to answer the question whether, in the process of preparing teachers to perform their professional role, attention is paid to issues related to the emotions. The theoretical perspective of our research is provided by the socio-constructivist concepts of emotions and emotional competences. We refer primarily to the theories of Steven Gordon and Carolyn Saarni. The research problem focuses on the question: how are the emotional competences of teachers constructed/presented in the academic education curriculum in Poland? We searched for an answer to the problem by means of critical discourse analysis (CDA), which is one of the most useful research perspectives for studying the relationship between socio-cultural and discursive changes. The source of discursive data is the document that constitutes the legal basis regulating the teacher education process in Poland, i.e. Regulation of the Minister of Science and Higher Education. Our research revealed that in Polish academic education there is a technical-instrumental discourse in force, which is related to the traditional model of teacher training. This has a decisive impact on both the structure of the teacher training curriculum in Poland and the marginal importance of the role of emotions in teachers’ work. The performed analysis may contribute to the improvement of educational practice and, consequently, to the improvement of the quality of academic education

(Adult) education in the perspective of emotional geography. Towards a transdisciplinary approach in andragogy research

    Get PDF
The aim of the article is to describe emotional geography, i.e. a research trend located on the borderline between human geography and contemporary affect studies, which focuses on the relationship between emotions and the broadly understood environmental, socio-cultural, spatial, economic, and political context. For this purpose, the author refers to theoretical analyses and research in the area of the so-called affective turn, and to the critical and political theories of emotions. She presents the relationship between education and emotional geography as well as examples of educational research projects on the socio-cultural spatial analyses of emotions and education. She also indicates the methodological implications for educational and andragogy research projects concerning the study of emotions in education, i.e. their transdisciplinary dimension. The presented way of conceptualizing the emotional geography of (in) education is a new look at the functioning of educational institutions and at the practice of lifelong learning. It can be a source of empirical research projects for theorists of education and andragogues

Empowerment in the Lifelong Learning Perspective. Example from the “ICT Guides” Project

The paradigmatic change in adult education that took place in the 1990s, involving “a shift from teaching towards learning”, resulted not only in deeper reflection of andragogists on the epistemological issues concerning the specific character and conditions of adult learning, but also in the redefinition of andragogic notions including the title category of empowerment. Another consequence of this change is a different attitude towards the educational activity of adults, an example of which is the international educational project “ICT-Guides” described in the article. The first part of the article analyzes the concept of lifelong learning and characterizes empowerment, which provides the theoretical context for further deliberations. Then, the assumptions of the “ICT-Guides” project are presented. The project shows a new way of determining educational tasks and organizing educational work in the context of lifelong learning. The “ICT-Guides” project is also an example of a good practice serving empowering functions. Upełnomocnienie można analizować z perspektywy indywidualnej i zbiorowej. Upełnomocnienie zbiorowe z kolei, odnosi się do przełamywania barier, do zmiany pozycji społecznej, umożliwia bycie „aktorem społecznym” w pełni zdolnym do wnoszenia wkładu indywidualnego i kolektywnego w zmianę świata wokół siebie.

The results of observations on the occurrence of S. cerevisiae in the respiratory and digestive systems and on the skin in hospitalised individuals, mostly belonging to so-called risk groups of fungal infections, conducted over a period of five years (1999-2004), are described and discussed. The participation of S. cerevisiae in the mycocoenoses studied was 11.04% of all the recorded fungi. A significant increase in its prevalence, especially on the skin, was noticed. The fungus was mostly isolated with fungi of the genera Candida and Trichosporon, as well as separately in the last two years of the study

Emotional Education Discourses: Between Developing Competences and Deepening Emotional (Co-)Understanding

The article addresses an issue important in educational sciences which is emotional education understood as an activity for human emotional development. It is important in the context of lifelong learning, that is, both for the functioning of children and young people at school and for the lifelong learning of adults. Emotional education plays a significant role in the development of pro-social attitudes, the functioning of individuals in the local community, and in the building of civil society. Owing to the fact that the objectives of education and the principles of their implementation in educational practice are based on different theoretical assumptions, two different approaches to emotional education were distinguished, that is, technological-instrumental and humanistic-critical. There are clear and significant differences between those two perspectives, and not only in the way they conceptualize and explain “emotional education.” The two singled out approaches have consequences for educational policy and pedagogical practice. The aim of the article is to characterize both of the theoretical perspectives at hand and to indicate their implications for pedagogical activities

The glial Gomori-positive material is sulfane sulpfur.

The Gomori-positive glia are periventricular astrocytes with abundant cytoplasmic granular material, predominantly occupying a periventricular site in the brain. These granular inclusions are strongly stained with chrome hematoxylin in the Gomori's method as well as exhibit red autofluorescence and non-enzymatic peroxidase activity. The glial Gomori-positive material (GGPM) granules are positive in the performic acid Alcian blue method indicating the presence of protein-bound sulfur, what has been shown by our previous studies. The number of cells containing glial Gomori-positive granules dropped after administration of cyanide and increased under the influence of sulfane sulfur donor (diallyl disulfide). This suggests, that sulfur of these granules is a sulfane sulfur, possibly in the form of protein-bound cysteine persulfide. Sulfane sulfur is labile, reactive sulfur atom covalently bound to another sulfur atom. In this paper we present evidence that GGPM exhibit affinity to cyanolysis and its stainability in Gomori's method is due to the presence of protein-bound sulfane sulfur. The biological role of the Gomori-positive glia connected with protective properties of sulfane sulfur has been discussed

The effect of Aspirin on Gomori-positive glia in mouse brain

Aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid, ASA) treatment resulted in a significant decrease in the amount of the sulfur-rich Gomori-positive material present in the cytoplasm of periventricular glia. It also caused the accumulation of the Gomori-positive neurosecretory material in the supraoptic and paraventricular nuclei and, most pronounced, in the neurosecretory axons of the paraventricular- and supraoptic-neurophypophysial tract
