    La dolarización como política monetaria en Latinoamérica: una aproximación a partir de la técnica de "diferencia en diferencias"

    The dollarization of Ecuador�s and El Salvador�s economies, in 2000 and 2001, respectively, and the fixed exchange rate system convertibilidad in Argentina, has generated an intense debate about dollarization in Latin America in recent years. This paper analyzes the performance of strictly dollarized economies in Latin America, specifically in terms of growth volatility. Using a technique commonly used in applied microeconometrics known as �difference in differences�. I investigate whether strictly dollarized countries have exhibited higher or lower growth volatility than countries with a domestic currency. This empiric investigation contributes to the economic literature by examining the impact of a macroeconomic issue using a technique that is widely used in applied microeconometrics. It is important to recognize that a major limitation of this paper is the very limited amount of data about strictly dollarized economies available for the analysis.Un débat permanant s�est produit ces dernières années en Amérique Latine a propos de la dollarisation du a son implantation dans quelques pays de la région tels que l�Equateur en l� an 2000, Le Salvador en l� an 2001, et l�usage de politiques de tipe de change fixe comme la conversion en Argentine. On prétend analyser et avoir une meilleure compréhension de l�accomplissement des économies dollarisées de la région, spécifiquement en termes de volatilité de la croissance, grâce a l�utilisation de la méthodologie connue comme «différence en différences » qui est grandement utilisée en micro économie appliquée. Ce travail contribue à augmenter la maigre littérature économique empirique sur l�accomplissement des économies dollarisées qui existe. En termes méthodologiques, le principal apport c�est de réaliser une première approximation à un sujet macro économique a partir d�une technique utilisée amplement en économie appliquée. Il est important de reconnaître qu�une limitation significative de cet article empirique c�est la quantité limitée d�observations sur les cas de dollarisation officielle sur lesquels on compte.En los últimos años se ha generado un continuo debate en Latinoamérica acerca de la dolarización debido a su implementación en algunos países de la región como Ecuador en el año 2000 y El Salvador en el año 2001, y el uso de políticas de tipo de cambio fijo como la convertibilidad en Argentina. Se pretende analizar y tener un mejor entendimiento del desempeño de las economías dolarizadas de la región, específicamente en términos de la volatilidad del crecimiento, por medio del uso de una metodología ampliamente utilizada en microeconomía aplicada conocida como �diferencia en diferencias�. Este trabajo contribuye a ampliar la escasa literatura económica empírica sobre el desempeño de economías dolarizadas. En términos de metodología el principal aporte es llevar a cabo una primera aproximación a un tema macroeconómico a partir de una técnica utilizada ampliamente en microeconomía aplicada. Despite the need to evaluate the suitability and relevance of management doctoral programs, at present, there are no studies that inquire about the conditions of students and graduates of doctoral programs in the management research field. Design/methodology/approach An exploratory exercise was developed, information was collected with students and graduates of various doctoral programs to initiate a contextualization and characterization in terms of doctoral training from the students’ point of view. Findings At the end, conclusions are presented on the status and prospects to continue with future studies that allow find the conditions of doctoral level training in the management field and the impact of the research carried out by doctoral students and graduates of these programs. Originality/value This paper will contribute to the review of the existing studies regarding doctoral education in management in Colombia, which presents principal motivations about investigation in the field of study, and as such, open the space to question about the reality of the programs in terms of those who are receiving the formation.Objetivo El propósito de este trabajo es lograr una aproximación a la comprensión de la situación de los programas de doctorado en Administración en Colombia. Existe la necesidad de evaluar la idoneidad y relevancia de los programas doctorales en Administración, en la actualidad no existen estudios que indaguen por las condiciones de los estudiantes y graduados de los programas doctorales en el campo de la investigación en Administración. Diseño/metodología/aproximación Se desarrolló un ejercicio de tipo exploratorio, se colectó información con estudiantes y graduados de diversos programas de doctorado en Administración de cara a iniciar una contextualización y caracterización en términos de la formación doctoral desde la visión de los estudiantes. Hallazgos Se presentan conclusiones sobre el estado actual y perspectivas para continuar con estudios futuros que permitan profundizar sobre las condiciones de la formación a nivel doctoral en el campo de la Administración y el impacto de las investigaciones que desarrollan los doctorandos y graduados de estos programas.     Test Preparation and Students’ Performance: The Case of the Colombian High School Exit Exam

    Standardized test scores play a central role in determining college admission decisions in both developed and emerging countries. For that reason, many courses are offered by schools and other educational institutions to prepare students for the exams. However, it is still unclear whether additional preparation has a positive and significant effect. The objective of this paper is to use the results of the Colombian high-school exit examination to gain a better understanding of the relationship between preparation and test results. Our results show that, on average, preparatory activities are associated with an increase of approximately 0.06 standard deviations in scores.Os resultados dos exames padronizados desempenham um papel importante nas decisões de admissão à universidade em países desenvolvidos, emergentes e de baixos ingressos. Por essa razão, os colégios e outras instituições educativas oferecem cursos para preparar aos estudantes. No entanto, não está claro se esta preparação adicional tem um efeito positivo e significativo. Este artigo utiliza os resultados do exame de Estado colombiano para analisar a relação entre a preparação e o desempenho. Nossos resultados mostram que, em média, as atividades de preparação estão associadas a um incremento de aproximadamente 0.06 desvios padrão nas pontuações.Los resultados de los exámenes estandarizados juegan un papel importante en las decisiones de admisión a la universidad en países desarrollados, emergentes y de bajos ingresos. Por esa razón, los colegios y otras instituciones educativas ofrecen cursos para preparar a los estudiantes.     The First Neolithic Occupation of La Cova del Randero (Pedreguer, Alicante, Spain)

    The excavations at “Cova del Randero” (Pedreguer, Alicante, Spain) began in 2007 within the programme of archaeological interventions of the Archaeological Museum of Alicante. The cavity, located in one of the valleys that connect the coast with the inland mountains, presents a wide sequence of occupations that begins in the Upper Palaeolithic and continues throughout the different phases of the Neolithic. The results of a multidisciplinary study, carried out in an archaeological context associated with the first Neolithic presence of the cavity, are presented here. This occupation is defined by a unique combustion structure to which a set of artefacts and biofacts are linked. This archaeological context, probably of a specific nature, is related to the first agro-pastoral communities settled in the area. The fireplace is well defined stratigraphically and sedimentologically because of its reddish soil, which corresponds to hunter-gatherer occupation levels of the cavity, and under the greyish sediments that characterise the use of the cave as a fold during the Middle Neolithic. This occupation event was dated both by the associated materials, among which a fragment of cardial ceramic was found, and by radiocarbon dating of a metacarpus of Ovis aries around 5075–4910 cal BC (epicardial Early Neolithic). This data allows us to link the occupation of the cavity at this time with pastoral activity in a medium mountain environment. However, it also allows us to infer the environmental characteristics in which the first farming communities of the mountains of Alicante were developed.These excavations are part of MARQ’s general plan of ordinary archaeological excavations that are carried out within the framework of the agreement signed between the Provincial Council of Alicante and the Town Council of Pedreguer. Therefore, part of the results of this research are in the framework of the doctoral thesis of SMA (Silvia Martínez Amorós), who has a training contract with the Vice-Rectorate for Research of the University of Alicante (UAFPU2018-045)
