    La industria automotriz cuenta con un estándar internacional en cuanto a la comunicación entre los dispositivos que componen un auto, por ejemplo el sistema de frenos (ABS), transmisión (Power Train), tablero del auto (Cluster), por mencionar algunos. Estos dispositivos tienen la necesidad de comunicarse entre sí, lo cual se realiza con un protocolo de comunicación CAN. Este es uno de los protocolos de mayor uso en la comunicación automotriz, sin embargo, el monitoreo de las interfaces de este sistema tiene un alto costo para la industria. En el presente proyecto se planteó la necesidad de realizar un módulo de bajo costo para la detección de problemas presentados en la comunicación de una red de nodos CAN por medio de una tarjeta de desarrollo modelo Tiva™ C Series TM4C123G LaunchPad con un ARM® Cortex®-M4F basado en un MCU TM4C123G. En dicho sistema embebido se logró desarrollar el software que permite monitorear redes de CAN en un equipo de prueba. Este software puede adecuarse a las necesidades de las unidades que va a monitorear a través de un entorno amigable y fácil de entender para cualquier usuario basado en la API de CAN (Texas Instruments). En conclusión, el desarrollo del software para la comunicación CAN ayuda a identificar problemas en la comunicación entre nodos en tiempo real, lo que se traduce en un menor tiempo de paro en los equipos de prueba por fallas detectadas con respecto a la comunicación CAN.ITESO, A.     Characteristics of the family Filoviridae and the Ebola virus: an update of its implications in the human population The family Filoviridae is integrated by a group of filamentous RNA viruses that cause severe hemorrhagic fevers in primates and other mammals, including humans, mainly in the African continent. Ebolavirus, arburgrvirus and Lloviu cuevavirus are the members of this family, and their main reservoirs are bats from the family Pteropodidae. The present review describes the main characteristics of the Filoviruses, pathophysiology and epidemiology on the human population, with a focus on the Ebolavirus, a pathogen of great epidemiological importance responsible for the death of 13 293 people since 1976. The Ebola outbreak of 2014-2016 was the largest in history, with 28 652 cases, representing more than 90% of the total number of cases reported since the origin of the disease (31 685). The transmission of the virus between humans can happen directly, through ontaminated fluids, or indirectly, by parenteral transmission and fomites. The incubation period ranges from 2 to 21 days and the symptomatology is divided in four phases: a febrile phase with nonspecific symptoms, a phase characterized by gastrointestinal symptoms, and two with the presence of critical symptoms. Although there is no specific treatment for the Ebola virus disease, the development of potential vaccines is currently underway, and some have showed positive results in animal models. This could lead to the appearance of an effective treatment that increases the survival of infected patients, and better epidemiological control

(Bill) Peterson was a dedicated public servant, a leader in the ocean science community, and a mentor to a generation of scientists. Bill recognized the importance of applied science and the need for integrated “big science” programs to advance our understanding of ecosystems and to guide their management. As the first US GLOBEC program manager, he was pivotal in transitioning the concept of understanding how climate change impacts marine ecosystems to an operational national research program. The scientific insight and knowledge generated by US GLOBEC informed and advanced the ecosystem-based management approaches now being implemented for fishery management in the US. Bill held significant leadership roles in numerous international efforts to understand global and regional ecological processes, and organized and chaired a number of influential scientific conferences and their proceedings. He was passionate about working with and training young researchers. Bill’s academic affiliations, notably at Stony Brook and Oregon State Universities, enabled him to advise, train, and mentor a host of students, post-doctoral researchers, and laboratory technicians. Under his collegial guidance they became critical independent thinkers and diligent investigators. His former students and colleagues carry on Bill Peterson’s legacy of research that helps us understand marine ecosystems and informs more effective resource stewardship and conservation

    Effect of Oak Chip Addition at Different Winemaking Stages on Phenolic Composition of Moravia Agria Red Wines

    This study compared changes in the phenolic composition of Moravia Agria wine and its effect on colour,co-pigmentation as well as on physicochemical properties, such as antioxidant capacity, caused by addingoak chips at different stages of the winemaking process. Moravia Agria control wine was made followingtraditional winemaking processes, without oak chips. Oak chips were added to the rest of the wines attwo dose rates (3 and 6 g/L) at different stages of the winemaking process: for one week during alcoholicfermentation, during malolactic fermentation and in young red Moravia Agria wine. Only slight significantdifferences were found in phenolic composition, antioxidant activity and chromatic characteristics betweenthe Moravia Agria wines treated with oak chips and the control wine. However, oak chip addition slightlydecreased the content of non-polymeric red pigments (monomeric anthocyanins and pyranoanthocyanins)and also of resveratrol-monomer stilbenes. It is suggested that oak chip addition to Moravia Agria winescan be selected as part of the targeted sensory profile (relative intensity of sensory descriptors providedby grape and oak wood), since only a few changes have been observed in the phenolic profiles, antioxidantcapacity value and colour characteristics

    Data for the modelling of the future power system with a high share of variable renewable energy

    Energy and power system models have become necessary tools that provide challenges and technical and economic solutions for integrating high shares of Variable Renewable Energy. Models are focused on analysing strategies of power systems to achieve their decarbonisation targets. The data presented in this paper includes the model algorithm, inputs, equations, modelling assumptions, supplementary materials, and results of the simulations supporting the research article titled “Facing the high share of variable renewable energy in the power system: flexibility and stability requirements”. The analysis is based on data from the system operator of one of the European Union member states (Spain). The developed model allows making projections and calculations to obtain the power generation of each technology, the international interconnections, inertia, emissions, system costs and flexibility requirements of new technologies.     Hepatic disease as the first manifestation of progressive myoclonus epilepsy of Lafora

    5 páginas, 2 figuras -- PAGS nros. 1369-1373Background: Lafora disease (LD; progressive myoclonus epilepsy type 2; EPM2) is an autosomal recessive disorder caused by mutations in the EPM2A and EPM2B genes. LD is characterized by the presence of strongly PAS-positive intracellular inclusions (Lafora bodies) in several tissues. Glycogen storage disease type IV (GSD-IV; Andersen disease) is an autosomal recessive disorder characterized by cirrhosis leading to severe liver failure. GSD-IV has been associated with mutations in the glycogen branching enzyme gene (GBE). Histopathologic changes of the liver in both diseases show an identical appearance, although cirrhosis has never been described in patients with LD. We report a LD family in which the proband presented severe liver failure at onset of the disease. Methods: Clinical histories, physical and neurologic examination, laboratory tests, EEGs, MRI of the brain, and liver or axillary skin biopsies were performed in the two affected siblings. The diagnosis was confirmed by molecular genetic analysis of the EPM2A, EPM2B, and GBE genes and loci. Results: During the first decade of life, abnormalities in liver function tests were detected in the two affected siblings. The proband's liver dysfunction was severe enough to require liver transplantation. Subsequently, both sibs developed LD. Mutation analysis of EPM2A revealed a homozygous Arg241stop mutation in both patients. Conclusions: This is the first description of severe hepatic dysfunction as the initial clinical manifestation of LD.
