Stationary distributions of sums of marginally chaotic variables as renormalization group fixed points

We determine the limit distributions of sums of deterministic chaotic variables in unimodal maps assisted by a novel renormalization group (RG) framework associated to the operation of increment of summands and rescaling. In this framework the difference in control parameter from its value at the transition to chaos is the only relevant variable, the trivial fixed point is the Gaussian distribution and a nontrivial fixed point is a multifractal distribution with features similar to those of the Feigenbaum attractor. The crossover between the two fixed points is discussed and the flow toward the trivial fixed point is seen to consist of a sequence of chaotic band mergers.Comment: 7 pages, 2 figures, to appear in Journal of Physics: Conf.Series (IOP, 2010

Renormalization group structure for sums of variables generated by incipiently chaotic maps

We look at the limit distributions of sums of deterministic chaotic variables in unimodal maps and find a remarkable renormalization group (RG) structure associated to the operation of increment of summands and rescaling. In this structure - where the only relevant variable is the difference in control parameter from its value at the transition to chaos - the trivial fixed point is the Gaussian distribution and a novel nontrivial fixed point is a multifractal distribution that emulates the Feigenbaum attractor, and is universal in the sense of the latter. The crossover between the two fixed points is explained and the flow toward the trivial fixed point is seen to be comparable to the chaotic band merging sequence. We discuss the nature of the Central Limit Theorem for deterministic variables.Comment: 14 pages, 5 figures, to appear in Journal of Statistical Mechanic

The black hole final state for the Dirac fields In Schwarzschild spacetime

We show that the internal stationary state of a black hole for massless Dirac fields can be represented by an entangled state of collapsing matter and infalling Hawking radiation. This implies that the Horowitz-Maldacena conjecture for the black hole final state originally proposed for the massless scalar fields is also applicable to fermionic fields as well. For an initially mixed state we find that the measure of mixedness is expected to decrease under evaporation

Effects of smoking on vital capacity in healthy students

INTRODUCTION: Although the tobacco consumption has been reported to obstruct the effects of physical culture in young adults, there are few reports that include physical and laboratory evidence of this. Health education appears not to prevent impairment of the vital capacity associated with tobacco consumption. PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was estimate the effect of tobacco consumption on vital capacity after four months of participation in a theoretical-practical program on movement fundamentals.METHODS: Preexperimental design of two measurements. Lung function and a physical test were performed on seventeen healthy students. Course-Navette test was carried out to estimate vital capacity (heart rate at rest, maximum heart rate, physical level, VO2 max, distance and average speed). Forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1) was measured by Welch Allyn Schiller spirometer. The sample was divided on the consumption of cigarettes (12 consumers vs. 5 abstainers). T-tests were used to evaluate the differences between groups. RESULTS: Participants were men of 20.94 years (SD = 2.69, 18-19 years) with normal body complexion (Body mass index = 24.51 kg/m 2 (SD = 1.69). There were no baseline differences between groups regarding age or body composition (p \u3e .05). Differences in all parameters related to vital capacity were observed in the abstainers group (p \u3c .01), except for maximal heart rate and resting heart rate (p \u3e .05). The smokers group decreased their results in both tests but without significant differences. CONCLUSION: Tobacco consumption affected the vital capacity of young adults despite the participation in theoretical-practical program of fundamentals of the movement. Tobacco abstinence coupled with participation in an educational program increased vital capacity measured with a physical and a laboratory test

Relativistic Quantum Games in Noninertial Frames

We study the influence of Unruh effect on quantum non-zero sum games. In particular, we investigate the quantum Prisoners' Dilemma both for entangled and unentangled initial states and show that the acceleration of the noninertial frames disturbs the symmetry of the game. It is shown that for maximally entangled initial state, the classical strategy C (cooperation) becomes the dominant strategy. Our investigation shows that any quantum strategy does no better for any player against the classical strategies. The miracle move of Eisert et al (1999 Phys. Rev. Lett. 83 3077) is no more a superior move. We show that the dilemma like situation is resolved in favor of one player or the other.Comment: 8 Pages, 2 figures, 2 table
