Simple Current Actions of Cyclic Groups

Permutation actions of simple currents on the primaries of a Rational Conformal Field Theory are considered in the framework of admissible weighted permutation actions. The solution of admissibility conditions is presented for cyclic quadratic groups: an irreducible WPA corresponds to each subgroup of the quadratic group. As a consequence, the primaries of a RCFT with an order n integral or half-integral spin simple current may be arranged into multiplets of length k^2 (where k is a divisor of n) or 3k^2 if the spin of the simple current is half-integral and k is odd.Comment: Added reference, minor change

Non--Newtonian viscosity of interacting Brownian particles: comparison of theory and data

A recent first-principles approach to the non-linear rheology of dense colloidal suspensions is evaluated and compared to simulation results of sheared systems close to their glass transitions. The predicted scenario of a universal transition of the structural dynamics between yielding of glasses and non-Newtonian (shear-thinning) fluid flow appears well obeyed, and calculations within simplified models rationalize the data over variations in shear rate and viscosity of up to 3 decades.Comment: 6 pages, 2 figures; J. On Verifiable Sufficient Conditions for Sparse Signal Recovery via â„“1\ell_1 Minimization

We propose novel necessary and sufficient conditions for a sensing matrix to be "ss-good" - to allow for exact â„“1\ell_1-recovery of sparse signals with ss nonzero entries when no measurement noise is present. Then we express the error bounds for imperfect â„“1\ell_1-recovery (nonzero measurement noise, nearly ss-sparse signal, near-optimal solution of the optimization problem yielding the â„“1\ell_1-recovery) in terms of the characteristics underlying these conditions. Further, we demonstrate (and this is the principal result of the paper) that these characteristics, although difficult to evaluate, lead to verifiable sufficient conditions for exact sparse â„“1\ell_1-recovery and to efficiently computable upper bounds on those ss for which a given sensing matrix is ss-good. We establish also instructive links between our approach and the basic concepts of the Compressed Sensing theory, like Restricted Isometry or Restricted Eigenvalue properties

Exceptional quantum subgroups for the rank two Lie algebras B2 and G2

Exceptional modular invariants for the Lie algebras B2 (at levels 2,3,7,12) and G2 (at levels 3,4) can be obtained from conformal embeddings. We determine the associated alge bras of quantum symmetries and discover or recover, as a by-product, the graphs describing exceptional quantum subgroups of type B2 or G2 which encode their module structure over the associated fusion category. Global dimensions are given.Comment: 33 pages, 27 color figure

On the validity of the solution of string field theory

    Get PDF
We analyze the realm of validity of the recently found tachyon solution of cubic string field theory. We find that the equation of motion holds in a non trivial way when this solution is contracted with itself. This calculation is needed to conclude the proof of Sen's first conjecture. We also find that the equation of motion holds when the tachyon or gauge solutions are contracted among themselves.Comment: JHEP style, 9+1 pages. Typos correcte

Cumulative identical spin rotation effects in collisionless trapped atomic gases

We discuss the strong spin segregation in a dilute trapped Fermi gas recently observed by Du et al. with "anomalous" large time scale and amplitude. In a collisionless regime, the atoms oscillate rapidly in the trap and average the inhomogeneous external field in an energy dependent way, which controls their transverse spin precession frequency. During interactions between atoms with different spin directions, the identical spin rotation effect (ISRE) transfers atoms to the up or down spin state, depending on their motional energy. Since low energy atoms are closer to the center of the trap than high energy atoms, the final outcome is a strong correlation between spins and positions.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figures; v2: comparison to experimental data adde
