Determination of Content of a Surgical Nurse Internship Program

Descriptions of nurse internships have reflected a broad diversity of schemes in content, objectives and outcomes. The paucity of research about most aspects of the program supported the need to investigate the content. It was vitally important that the curriculum for the internship program be cogent to the developmental needs of the nurse interns.
The primary Purpose of this study was to determine the essential content of a surgical nurse internship program. Five groups of nurses ranked and weighted 68 topics which were organized into five categories: professional, personal, patient/family, broad clinical and surgical nursing. Kendall\u27s Coefficient of Concordance was utilized to determine the agreement within each of the five nurse groups, between the nurse groups and among all nurses. The chi square test was applied to determine the level of significance of the agreement. Rank and weight standing of each topic by each nurse group and of all nurses was obtained.
There was significantly high agreement among all nurses in ranking topics of all five categories. All nurse groups had the highest agreement in ranking the professional and personal topics. There was a moderately high agreement in ranking broad clinical and surgical nursing and moderate agreement in ranking patient/family categories. Only one group of nurses, the associate degree faculty had a moderate agreement within their group in selecting appropriate topics. Observation of mixed anisotropy in the critical susceptibility of an ultrathin magnetic film
Measurements of the magnetic susceptibility of Fe/W(110) films with thickness
in the range of 1.6 to 2.4 ML Fe, show that in addition to the large response
along the easy axis associated with the Curie transition, there is a much
smaller, paramagnetic hard axis response that is not consistent with the 2D
anisotropic Heisenberg model used to describe homogeneous in-plane ferromagnets
with uniaxial anisotropy. The shape, amplitude, and peak temperature of the
hard axis susceptibility, as well as its dependence upon layer completion close
to 2.0 ML, indicate that inhomogeneities in the films create a system of mixed
anisotropy. A likely candidate for inhomogeneities that are magnetically
relevant in the critical region are the closed lines of step edges associated
with the incomplete layers. According to the Harris criterion, the existence of
magnetically relevant inhomogeneities may alter the critical properties of the
films from those of a 2D Ising model. Experiments in the recent literature are

Internal friction investigation of phase transformation in nearly stoichiometric LaMnO3+δ
Rhombohedral LaMnO3+δ powders, prepared by two different soft chemistry routes (co-precipitation and hydrothermal synthesis), are sintered at 1400 °C for 2 h in air. Measurements of internal friction Q−1(T) and shear modulus G(T), at low frequencies from −180 to 700 °C under vacuum, evidence three structural transitions of nearly stoichiometric orthorhombic LaMnO3+δ. The first one, at 250 or 290 °C, depending on the processing followed, is associated to either a Jahn–Teller structural transition or a phase transformation from orthorhombic to pseudo-cubic. The second one at 610 or 630 °C is related to a phase transformation from pseudo-cubic or orthorhombic to rhombohedral. Below the Neel temperature, around −170 °C, a relaxation peak could be associated, for samples prepared according to both processing routes, to the motion of Weiss domains
A remark on singular sets of vector bundle morphisms
If a characteristic class for two vector bundles over the same base space does not coincide, then the bundles are not isomorphic. We give under rather common assumptions a lower bound on the topological dimension of the set of all points in the base over which a morphism between such bundles is not bijective.
Moreover, we show that this set is topologically non-trivial

As knowledge becomes an increasingly important part of regional innovation and development processes, the role of universities has come to the fore of regional innovation and economic development policy The objective of this paper is to critically review and assess the structure and function of knowledge networks and modes of engagement between universities and the business community in regional settings and contexts. It is argued that while regional knowledge networks and modes of engagement between universities and the business community are becoming increasingly prevalent, it is often difficult to ascribe investments in knowledge-based infrastructure to improved regional competitiveness. It is concluded that in a globalised knowledge environment the engagement between universities and regional business communities must be based on a mutual understanding of the role of both network and market-based knowledge interactions
