An Experimental Investigation Studying the Influence of Dimples on a Film Cooled Turbine Blade Leading Edge

An investigation was conducted to examine the effect of a row of cylindrical surface dimples in reducing the heat load on a turbine blade leading edge model. The models consisted of a foam cylindrical leading edge with a flat afterbody fabricated from Plexiglass. A single coolant hole was located 21.5 degree from the leading edge, angled 20 degree to the surface and 90 degree from the streamwise direction. The leading edge diameter to hole diameter ratio was D/d = 18.7. A row of seven dimples was placed upstream of one of the coolant holes. Infrared thermography techniques were used to determine the adiabatic effectiveness, eta, and heat transfer coefficient, h, distributions so that the net heat flux reduction could be calculated. Freestream conditions consisted of Reynolds numbers of 60,000 and 30,000 at both low turbulence and high turbulence. At Re = 60k, the dimples proved to increase the area averaged eta by an average of 0.007, while the dimpled cases performed equally, if not slightly poorer, than a smooth surface at the lower Reynolds number. The heat transfer coefficient was not greatly affected by the presence of the dimples beyond an x/d location of 0.5. Because the heat transfer coefficient remained relatively unchanged while eta increased at Re = 60k, the area averaged net heat flux reduction was increased slightly, by an average of 0.02, for the cases with dimples at those freestream conditions. Although, the dimpled cases provided slight improvement to the adiabatic effectiveness for some cases, any advantage was generally less than the uncertainty, indicating that the dimples\u27 effect was negligible

The purpose of the study is to increase understanding of the value of communication for first line staffs reactions to a merger between service organisations. Mergers are in modern age common between organisations and so also for service organisations. The first line staff are considered particularly important for service organisations due to their mediating role between company and customers where quality is transferred. At a merger it is therefore important to create conditions where two meeting personal groups together can continue to supply sufficient quality. A tool to create such conditions is communication. Formal communication can be used to create acceptance for a merger and to introduce changes in it. A prerequisite for front staff to achieve a higher understanding has proven to be highly dependent of the opportunity to conduct two-way communication. Informal communication has proven to function as strongly supportive in creating acceptance and a positive conception of a merger. Especially important is informal communication to facilitate social integration

Thesis (M.A.)-University of KwaZulu-Natal, Pietermaritzburg, 2012.This dissertation comprises the documentation and theoretical component of a practice-led Master of Arts in Fine Art. The illustrated text focuses in four chapters on a critical explication of contemporary South African ceramists namely, Juliet Armstrong, Betsy Nield, Liza Firer and Leanne Frisinger. The dissertation includes significant discoveries about the creative use of paperclay in contemporary South African ceramics and provides documentary record of the candidate’s materials and processes. A conclusion briefly compares productions referred to in the text

Differentiating for Gifted Students, Including Low-Income, Students of Color, or Those with a Learning Disability, in the General Education Classroom Urban Education

Pre-conceived ideas of what makes up a gifted and talented student often stops teachers from identifying large segments of gifted students, including those who have disabilities, for whom English is a second language, ethnic minorities, and low-income students. Once identified, teachers often do not know how to differentiate their curriculum to create successful opportunities for their students. This two-day teacher professional development gives educators information and skills to identify and intelligently support all gifted and talented students in their class room. Educators will learn how to use extension activities such as the most difficult first, volunteer pre-test, and a learning contract to engage gifted students. Using differentiation and compacting teachers are able to ensure the success of their gifted students

Bridging the voice of healthcare to digital transformation in practice – a holistic approach

    No full text
Abstract Background Digital transformation is key for healthcare to meet future needs and expectations and compete equally with new actors on the market. Medical digital diagnosis tools and clinical decision support systems (CDSS) are improving and offer new opportunities. To introduce new technology in healthcare can however be a challenging mission, too often ending in failure, with excessive costs or the actual transformation work not being carried out at all. It is unclear how to drive the establishment to reach desired results in this environment, and how industrial experiences can be used to support healthcare. Objective The objective of this study was to develop a holistic approach for introducing new information technology (IT), such as a CDSS, into a primary healthcare organization supported by industry best practices for digital transformation. Methods This qualitative study used a combined inductive and deductive method where the perceptions and beliefs of selected primary healthcare stakeholders were used as directions for developing an approach that could utilize existing industry best practices for digital transformation. Results A holistic healthcare-ified approach including 20 requirements was developed, that meet the needs of healthcare. The voice of healthcare was used as prism to healthcare-ify the industry practices and adapt it to match specific healthcare conditions. An example was provided showing how the research could be put into practice. Conclusions This study proposed a holistic approach, based on industry best practices, but adapted to healthcare using the voice of healthcare as a bridge, that may be used to introduce CDSS and other IT into a primary healthcare organization and step up the needed digitalization
