Singularities of Nonlinear Elliptic Systems
Through Morrey's spaces (plus Zorko's spaces) and their potentials/capacities
as well as Hausdorff contents/dimensions, this paper estimates the singular
sets of nonlinear elliptic systems of the even-ordered Meyers-Elcrat type and a

Path Integrals, Density Matrices, and Information Flow with Closed Timelike Curves
Two formulations of quantum mechanics, inequivalent in the presence of closed
timelike curves, are studied in the context of a soluable system. It
illustrates how quantum field nonlinearities lead to a breakdown of unitarity,
causality, and superposition using a path integral. Deutsch's density matrix
approach is causal but typically destroys coherence. For each of these
formulations I demonstrate that there are yet further alternatives in
prescribing the handling of information flow (inequivalent to previous
analyses) that have implications for any system in which unitarity or coherence

Simple Quantum Systems in Spacetimes with Closed Timelike Curves
Three simple examples illustrate properties of path integral amplitudes in
fixed background spacetimes with closed timelike curves: non-relativistic
potential scattering in the Born approximation is non-unitary, but both an
example with hard spheres and the exact solution of a totally discrete model

Comorbid conditions explain the association between posttraumatic stress disorder and incident cardiovascular disease
Background Posttraumatic stress disorder ( PTSD ) is associated with risk of cardiovascular disease ( CVD ). Biopsychosocial factors associated with PTSD likely account for some or all of this association. We determined whether 1, or a combination of comorbid conditions explained the association between PTSD and incident CVD . Methods and Results Eligible patients used 1 of 5 Veterans Health Affairs medical centers distributed across the United States. Data were obtained from electronic health records. At index date, 2519 Veterans Health Affairs ( VA ) patients, 30 to 70 years of age, had PTSD diagnoses and 1659 did not. Patients had no CVD diagnoses for 12 months before index date. Patients could enter the cohort between 2008 and 2012 with follow-up until 2015. Age-adjusted Cox proportional hazard models were computed before and after adjusting for comorbidities. Patients were middle aged (mean=50.1 years, SD ±11.0), mostly male (87.0%), and 60% were white. The age-adjusted association between PTSD and incident CVD was significant (hazard ratio=1.41; 95% CI : 1.21-1.63). After adjustment for metabolic conditions, the association between PTSD and incident CVD was attenuated but remained significant (hazard ratio=1.23; 95% CI : 1.06-1.44). After additional adjustment for smoking, sleep disorder, substance use disorder, anxiety disorders, and depression, PTSD was not associated with incident CVD (hazard ratio=0.96; 95% CI : 0.81-1.15). Conclusions PTSD is not an independent risk factor for CVD . Physical and psychiatric conditions and smoking that co-occur with PTSD explain why this patient population has an increased risk of CVD . Careful monitoring may limit exposure to CVD risk factors and subsequent incident CVD
Randomized Reference Classifier with Gaussian Distribution and Soft Confusion Matrix Applied to the Improving Weak Classifiers
In this paper, an issue of building the RRC model using probability
distributions other than beta distribution is addressed. More precisely, in
this paper, we propose to build the RRR model using the truncated normal
distribution. Heuristic procedures for expected value and the variance of the
truncated-normal distribution are also proposed. The proposed approach is
tested using SCM-based model for testing the consequences of applying the
truncated normal distribution in the RRC model. The experimental evaluation is
performed using four different base classifiers and seven quality measures. The
results showed that the proposed approach is comparable to the RRC model built
using beta distribution. What is more, for some base classifiers, the
truncated-normal-based SCM algorithm turned out to be better at discovering

The Star Formation Rate Function of the Local Universe
We have derived the bivariate luminosity function for the far ultraviolet
(1530Angstroms) and far infrared (60 microns). We used matched GALEX and IRAS
data, and redshifts from NED and PSC-z. We have derived a total star formation
luminosity function phi(L_{tot}), with L_{tot} = L_{FUV}+L_{FIR}. Using these,
we determined the cosmic ``star formation rate'' function and density for the
local universe. The total SFR function is fit very well by a log-normal
distribution over five decades of luminosity. We find that the bivariate
luminosity function phi(L_{FUV},L_{FIR}) shows a bimodal behavior, with L_{FIR}
tracking L_{FUV} for L_{TOT}< 10^10 L_sun, and L_{FUV} saturating at 10^10
L_sun, while L_{TOT} L_{FIR} for higher luminosities. We also calculate the SFR

The GALEX Ultraviolet Atlas of Nearby Galaxies
We present images, integrated photometry, and surface-brightness and color profiles for a total of 1034 nearby galaxies recently observed by the Galaxy Evolution Explorer (GALEX) satellite in its far-ultraviolet (FUV; λ_(eff) = 1516 Å) and near-ultraviolet (NUV; λ_(eff) = 2267 Å) bands. Our catalog of objects is derived primarily from the GALEX Nearby Galaxies Survey (NGS) supplemented by galaxies larger than 1' in diameter serendipitously found in these fields and in other GALEX exposures of similar of greater depth. The sample analyzed here adequately describes the distribution and full range of properties (luminosity, color, star formation rate [SFR]) of galaxies in the local universe. From the surface brightness profiles obtained we have computed asymptotic magnitudes, colors, and luminosities, along with the concentration indices C31 and C42. We have also morphologically classified the UV surface brightness profiles according to their shape. This data set has been complemented with archival optical, near-infrared, and far-infrared fluxes and colors. We find that the integrated (FUV − K) color provides robust discrimination between elliptical and spiral/irregular galaxies and also among spiral galaxies of different subtypes. Elliptical galaxies with brighter K-band luminosities (i.e., more massive) are redder in (NUV − K) color but bluer in (FUV − NUV) (a color sensitive to the presence of a strong UV upturn) than less massive ellipticals. In the case of the spiral/irregular galaxies our analysis shows the presence of a relatively tight correlation between the (FUV − NUV) color (or, equivalently, the slope of the UV spectrum, β) and the total infrared-to-UV ratio. The correlation found between (FUV − NUV) color and K-band luminosity (with lower luminosity objects being bluer than more luminous ones) can be explained as due to an increase in the dust content with galaxy luminosity.
