Anomalies, Anomalous U(1)'s and generalized Chern-Simons terms
A detailed analysis of anomalous U(1)'s and their effective couplings is
performed both in field theory and string theory. It is motivated by the
possible relevance of such couplings in particle physics, as well as a
potential signal distinguishing string theory from other UV options. The most
general anomaly related effective action is analyzed and parameterized. It
contains Stuckelberg, axionic and Chern-Simons-like couplings. It is shown that
such couplings are generically non-trivial in orientifold string vacua and are
not in general fixed by anomalies. A similar analysis in quantum field theories
provides similar couplings. The trilinear gauge boson couplings are also
calculated and their phenomenological relevance is advocated. We do not find

Clonal hematopoiesis of indeterminate potential and outcomes after heart transplantation: A multicenter study.
Cardiac allograft vasculopathy (CAV) is a leading cause of late graft failure and mortality after heart transplantation (HT). Sharing some features with atherosclerosis, CAV results in diffuse narrowing of the epicardial coronaries and microvasculature, with consequent graft ischemia. Recently, clonal hematopoiesis of indeterminate potential (CHIP) has emerged as a risk factor for cardiovascular disease and mortality. We aimed to investigate the relationship between CHIP and posttransplant outcomes, including CAV. We analyzed 479 HT recipients with stored DNA samples at 2 high-volume transplant centers, Vanderbilt University Medical Center and Columbia University Irving Medical Center. We explored the association between the presence of CHIP mutations with CAV and mortality after HT. In this case-control analysis, carriers of CHIP mutations were not at increased risk of CAV or mortality after HT. In a large multicenter genomics study of the heart transplant population, the presence of CHIP mutations was not associated with an increased risk of CAV or posttransplant mortality
Closed String Field Theory with Dynamical D-brane
We consider a closed string field theory with an arbitrary matter current as
a source of the closed string field. We find that the source must satisfy a
constraint equation as a consequence of the BRST invariance of the theory. We
see that it corresponds to the covariant conservation law for the matter
current, and the equation of motion together with this constraint equation
determines the classical behavior of both the closed string field and the
matter. We then consider the boundary state (D-brane) as an example of a
source. We see that the ordinary boundary state cannot be a source of the
closed string field when the string coupling g turns on. By perturbative
expansion, we derive a recursion relation which represents the bulk
backreaction and the D-brane recoil. We also make a comment on the rolling

Community Risk Factors for Ocular Chlamydia Infection in Niger: Pre-Treatment Results from a Cluster-Randomized Trachoma Trial
Trachoma is one of the most important neglected tropical diseases because it is the leading cause of blindness from an infection in the world. There are about 1.3 million persons blind from the disease and many more at risk of blindness in the future. It is caused by the common bacterium Chlamydia trachomatis and can be treated with mass drug administrations (MDA) of azithromycin. We have begun a clinical trial in Niger, a country with limited resources in Africa, to determine the best treatment strategy. Our study from May to July 2010, which began before MDA's were given, showed that 26% of children aged 0–5 years were infected with the disease. In these children, we found that discharge from the nose, presence of flies on the face, and the number of years of education completed by the head of the household were risk factors for infection in 48 different communities. We hope to use this information about risk factors of infection to help guide future studies for trachoma and also to help with the WHO goal of eliminating the disease worldwide by the year 2020
Systematic Review of Medicine-Related Problems in Adult Patients with Atrial Fibrillation on Direct Oral Anticoagulants
New oral anticoagulant agents continue to emerge on the market and their safety requires assessment to provide evidence of their suitability for clinical use. There-fore, we searched standard databases to summarize the English language literature on medicine-related problems (MRPs) of direct oral anticoagulants DOACs (dabigtran, rivaroxban, apixban, and edoxban) in the treatment of adults with atri-al fibrillation. Electronic databases including Medline, Embase, International Pharmaceutical Abstract (IPA), Scopus, CINAHL, the Web of Science and Cochrane were searched from 2008 through 2016 for original articles. Studies pub-lished in English reporting MRPs of DOACs in adult patients with AF were in-cluded. Seventeen studies were identified using standardized protocols, and two reviewers serially abstracted data from each article. Most articles were inconclusive on major safety end points including major bleeding. Data on major safety end points were combined with efficacy. Most studies inconsistently reported adverse drug reactions and not adverse events or medication error, and no definitions were consistent across studies. Some harmful drug effects were not assessed in studies and may have been overlooked. Little evidence is provided on MRPs of DOACs in patients with AF and, therefore, further studies are needed to establish the safety of DOACs in real-life clinical practice
