In this study, the potential association of PrP genotypes with health and productive traits was investigated. Data were recorded on animals of the INRA 401 breed from the Bourges-La Sapinière INRA experimental farm. The population consisted of 30 rams and 852 ewes, which produced 1310 lambs. The animals were categorized into three PrP genotype classes: ARR homozygous, ARR heterozygous, and animals without any ARR allele. Two analyses differing in the approach considered were carried out. Firstly, the potential association of the PrP genotype with disease (Salmonella resistance) and production (wool and carcass) traits was studied. The data used included 1042, 1043 and 1013 genotyped animals for the Salmonella resistance, wool and carcass traits, respectively. The different traits were analyzed using an animal model, where the PrP genotype effect was included as a fixed effect. Association analyses do not indicate any evidence of an effect of PrP genotypes on traits studied in this breed. Secondly, a quantitative trait loci (QTL) detection approach using the PRNP gene as a marker was applied on ovine chromosome 13. Interval mapping was used. Evidence for one QTL affecting mean fiber diameter was found at 25 cM from the PRNP gene. However, a linkage between PRNP and this QTL does not imply unfavorable linkage disequilibrium for PRNP selection purposes

International audienceSince the discovery of the copper catalyzed azide alkyne cycloaddition in the early 2000s, tremendous efforts have been devoted to enlarging the scope of applications of this relatively simple to handle reaction. The chemistry of dyes has not been excluded from this enthusiasm so that a wide range of compounds have been synthesized over the years. Several key elements have sustained such research activity, such as the possibility to fine tune the photophysical properties, the easiness of structure screening in order to optimize the optical properties or the thermal stability of the triazole moiety. In this review, an overview of different dyes as well as their applications is reported. Is the Implicit Association Test a Valid and Valuable Measure of Implicit Consumer Social Cognition?

This article discusses the need for more satisfactory implicit measures in consumer psychology and assesses the theoretical foundations, validity, and value of the Implicit Association Test (IAT) as a measure of implicit consumer social cognition. Study 1 demonstrates the IAT’s sensitivity to explicit individual differences in brand attitudes, ownership, and usage frequency, and shows their correlations with IAT-based measures of implicit brand attitudes and brand relationship strength. In Study 2, the contrast between explicit and implicit measures of attitude toward the ad for sportswear advertisements portraying African American (Black) and European American (White) athlete–spokespersons revealed different patterns of responses to explicit and implicit measures in Black and White respondents. These were explained in terms of self-presentation biases and system justification theory. Overall, the results demonstrate that the IAT enhances our understanding of consumer responses, particularly when consumers are either unable or unwilling to identify the sources of influence on their behaviors or opinions

Interaction Dynamics in an Online Community: a Longitudinal Analysis of Communication Genres

    No full text
The growth of online communities has created borderless and virtual spaces where geographically dispersed consumers can participate in informational and commercial exchanges. While the importance of these communities is undeniable, consumer researchers, public policy makers and marketers do not have a full understanding of the relationship dynamics in these communities. This article departs from traditional life-cycle community development models, by using rhetorical genres repertoire as an analytic apparatus for investigating online communities' dynamics. In this nethnography, we analyzed the discourse of bulletin boards hosted at BabyCenter.com. Our findings show how periods in the life of a community correspond with changes in the nature and expression of specific communicative genres, themselves a consequence of members' contrasting struggle between community involvement and personal independence. WOS:000478711200061International audienceFerrocene is an exceptional building block for the development of dyes with reversible redox properties. Dyes absorbing int the near infrared and infrared region are actively researched due to their potential applications ranging from telecommunication to defence systems. In this review, an overview of the different NIR and infrared dyes reported to date is presented. Parallel to the photophysical characteristics, the synthetic pathways giving access to these structures is presented

Recent advances on push–pull organic dyes as visible light photoinitiators of polymerization

    No full text
International audiencePhotoinitiators activable under visible light and low light intensity are actively researched as it can advantageously address the safety concerns raised by the traditional UV-light photopolymerization process as well as the light penetration issue. Among dyes strongly absorbing in the visible range, one of the most promising family of photoinitiators are push-pull dyes based on an electron-donating and an electron-accepting moiety connected at both ends of a polyenyl-type spacer. By acting on both the strength of the electron donor and the electron accep-tor, position of the intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) band can be easily tuned from the near-UV to the near infrared region. In this review, an overview of the different D-π-A push-pull dyes used as visible photoinitiators of polymerization is presented. Over the years, a clear evolution in the chemical structure of the electron accep-tors can be clearly observed, evidencing the strong activity existing around these structures

High-level expression of Candida parapsilosis lipase/acyltransferase in Pichia pastoris

    No full text
Candida parapsilosis has been previously shown to produce a lipase/acyltransferase (EC 3.1.1.3) that preferentially catalyses transfer reactions such as alcoholysis over hydrolysis in the presence of suitable nucleophiles other than water, even in aqueous media (a(w) > 0.9). This enzyme has been shown to belong to a new family of lipases. The present work describes the cloning of the gene coding for this lipase/acyltransferase in the yeast Pichia pastoris and the heterologous high-level expression of the recombinant enzyme. The lipase/acyltransferase gene, in which the sequence encoding the signal peptide was replaced by that of the alpha-factor of Saccharomyces cerevisiae, was placed under the control of the methanol inducible promoter of the alcohol oxidase 1 gene (AOX1). A transformed P. pastoris clone, containing five copies of the lipase/acyltransferase gene, was selected for the production of recombinant enzyme. The fed-batch culture supernatant contained 5.8 g l(-1) (weighted) of almost pure recombinant lipase/acyltransferase displaying the same catalytic behavior as the original enzyme
