Theory as Guide to Supervisory Practice: A Hermeneutics of Imitation and Reflection in Dialogue

In this paper I have employed several theoretical and theological perspectives to reflect upon my supervision of pastoral counseling.These perspectives have been applied to two pastoral supervision cases to explore a number of dynamic themes that recur in pastoral supervision. These theoretical and theological perspectives serve as “maps” that guide my practice of pastoral counseling supervision

Transference and Countertransference in Pastoral Care, Counseling and Supervision

The focus is restricted to the phenomena of transference and counter-transference and to the exploration how these phenomena emerge in clinical cases. Article concludes with suggestions about the implication of this discussion for the supervisory training of chaplains and pastoral counselors

The Impact of Trauma-Informed Strategies on Self-Regulation and Sense of Belonging in Elementary Students

The purpose of this action research was to determine the effects of trauma-informed strategies on self-regulation and sense of belonging in elementary students. The research took place over a six-week period in an upper elementary classroom in a public Montessori school in the MidAtlantic. The population included 20 students ages 9-11. The intervention utilized traumainformed strategies such as mindfulness, yoga, community building, a calm box, and solo time. Data was collected through daily observations, a daily log, pre- and post-intervention questionnaires, and student journals. The repertoire of interventions proved to be beneficial in positively affecting self-regulation among students. Some positive effects were seen on student sense of belonging, particularly in terms of teacher-student relationships, laying the groundwork for continued growth in this area. The success in establishing positive connections and building self-regulation points to the usefulness of this research as initial steps in applying traumainformed strategies in the classroom. Continued research is needed to determine the effectiveness of further applications of trauma-informed strategies in additional domains, such as academic achievement, social-emotional learning, agency and empowerment, and restorative discipline

Experimental characterization of Gaussian quantum communication channels

We present a full experimental characterization of continuous variable quantum communication channels established by shared entanglement together with local operations and classical communication. The resulting teleportation channel was fully characterized by measuring all elements of the covariance matrix of the shared two-mode squeezed Gaussian state. From the experimental data we determined the lower bound to the quantum channel capacity, the teleportation fidelity of coherent states and the logarithmic negativity and the purity of the shared state. Additionally, a positive secret key rate was obtained for two of the established channels.Comment: 9 pages, 4 figures, submitted to Physical Review
