A quantum theoretical explanation for probability judgment errors
A quantum probability model is introduced and used to explain human probability judgment errors including the conjunction, disjunction, inverse, and conditional fallacies, as well as unpacking effects and partitioning effects. Quantum probability theory is a general and coherent theory based on a set of (von Neumann) axioms which relax some of the constraints underlying classic (Kolmogorov) probability theory. The quantum model is compared and contrasted with other competing explanations for these judgment errors including the representativeness heuristic, the averaging model, and a memory retrieval model for probability judgments. The quantum model also provides ways to extend Bayesian, fuzzy set, and fuzzy trace theories. We conclude that quantum information processing principles provide a viable and promising new way to understand human judgment and reasoning
The Lorentzian distance formula in noncommutative geometry
For almost twenty years, a search for a Lorentzian version of the well-known
Connes' distance formula has been undertaken. Several authors have contributed
to this search, providing important milestones, and the time has now come to
put those elements together in order to get a valid and functional formula.

Crystal-to-crystal transition of ultrasoft colloids under shear
Ultrasoft colloids typically do not spontaneously crystallize, but rather
vitrify, at high concentrations. Combining in-situ rheo-SANS experiments and
numerical simulations we show that shear facilitates crystallization of
colloidal star polymers in the vicinity of their glass transition. With
increasing shear rate well beyond rheological yielding, a transition is found
from an initial bcc-dominated structure to an fcc-dominated one. This
crystal-to-crystal transition is not accompanied by intermediate melting but
occurs via a sudden reorganization of the crystal structure. Our results
provide a new avenue to tailor colloidal crystallization and crystal-to-crystal
transition at molecular level by coupling softness and shear
Schematic baryon models, their tight binding description and their microwave realization
A schematic model for baryon excitations is presented in terms of a symmetric
Dirac gyroscope, a relativistic model solvable in closed form, that reduces to
a rotor in the non-relativistic limit. The model is then mapped on a nearest
neighbour tight binding model. In its simplest one-dimensional form this model
yields a finite equidistant spectrum. This is experimentally implemented as a
chain of dielectric resonators under conditions where their coupling is
evanescent and good agreement with the prediction is achieved.Comment: 17 pages, 15 figure
Effect of Electrolyte Balance in Low-Protein Diets on Broiler Performance and Tibial Dyschondroplasia Incidence
A proper dietary electrolyte balance (DEB) is essential to ensure an optimum acid-base equilibrium and broiler performance. In low-CP diets, this balance can be affected by reduction of soybean meal and inclusion of high levels of synthetic amino acids. Although, some studies have related low-protein diets supplemented with amino acids and DEB, these relations are not well explained, because some research demonstrates confusion about the deficiency and balance of nutrients. The objective of these experiments was to evaluate the DEB effects of diets with low levels of protein supplemented with amino acids on broiler performance and bone development. Results indicated that DEB and CP content influenced broiler chick performance in the starter and growing periods. There was no significant effect due to the interaction between DEB and CP content for tibial dyschondroplasia incidence (TD) or in bone breaking resistance during the growing period of either experiment.
