A comprehensive study of the economics of being female in TX: Economic Issues for Women in Texas. Texas Women's Foundation, established in 2013 as the research and advocacy arm of Dallas Women's Foundation, continues its long-standing focus on the issues that impact women statewide, which included the biennial studies of the Texas state budget through a gender lens. Through this new study, conducted by the Center for Public Policy Priorities, a sharply defined look at the policies and practices at the state level is provided, and at the community level in nine metro areas across Texas, that affect a woman's ability to be economically stable and secure

Preliminary Results of the Louisiana Sex Offender Treatment Program

The purpose of this study was to offer preliminary support for the Louisiana Sex Offender Treatment Program (LSOTP) in addressing the needs of juvenile sex offenders. Research objectives were (1) to offer statistical evidence for reductions in anxiety, depression, cognitive distortion and negative attitudes towards women comparing a group of 21 adolescents, 12 of whom received services as usual and nine of whom participated in the LSOTP. A controlled experimental evaluation design was utilized. The juvenile sex offenders were randomly assigned to the experimental group for 12 weeks receiving treatment services and a control group receiving care “as usual” in a residential group care program. Participants in the experimental group experienced statistically significant decreases in cognitive distortions related specifically to rape and molestation.The results of this study offer preliminary support of the LSOTP as a best practices alternative to other treatment modalities

Costly Rewards and Punishments

To punish an agent, the principal often incurs costs. I study a principal’s least costly reward and punishment scheme for an agent whose effort the principal cannot observe. I find the principal’s cost is sometimes minimized by using both costly rewards and costly punishments because (1) the agent has an outside option, or (2) a principal without commitment ability repeatedly interacts with the agent. I also find that when an agent’s effort is better at increasing the probability of a good outcome for the principal, the agent’s payoff may decrease, because the principal replaces rewards with punishments

Catullan Obscenity and Modern English Translation

This thesis explores the ways Catullus uses obscenity in his poetry, and how modern translators captures those effects when translating obscenity into English. I first define obscenity by creating four categories of words that all have to do with taboo topics and exist only in certain contexts, outside of polite company: obscenities, technical terms, circumlocutions, and euphemisms. The first chapter analyzes Poems 16, 37, and 97, Catullus\u27s most obscene, to show that the poet uses profanity as a literary device that gains its strength from its juxtaposition with non-obscene words. The second chapter looks at seven English translations written post-1970 and focuses on how particular authors use and choose not to use obscenity. These choices reflect broader attitudes and goals in interpretation of the corpus as well as in modern translation more generally

Nurse Practitioner Led Services in Primary Health Care in Rural NSW– Two Case Studies

Background Nurse Practitioners (NPs) are a relatively new advanced nursing role. It was hoped that NPs would reduce some of the challenges facing health care, address workforce shortages and improve access to services for rural populations. The most recent census of Australian NPs showed that just twelve of 208 working NPs were located in primary health care settings. It also showed the majority of NPs were employed in metropolitan areas. Few previous studies describe NP roles in detail, or in rural primary health care settings. Aims This study aims to describe, in detail, the roles of two NPs in rural New South Wales in primary health care settings. One case study focuses on the delivery of an integrated mental health service and the other on leadership in aged care. Methods A case study methodology was employed, using multiple data sources. Data were gathered using semi-structured interviews with 31 key stakeholders, the examination of key documentation, and observation of the NPs within these settings. In the first case study, quantitative data were also analysed. Interview data were analysed thematically. Results The case studies offer an in-depth description of why and how these roles were established, what the NPs do and their impact within the context of small rural towns. They illustrate how NPs established intersectoral partnerships, new service delivery models and advocacy regarding the way health care was provided. The case studies also provide valuable information on how to best incorporate NPs into rural primary health care. Conclusion This study details the complexity of two NP roles within rural primary health care settings. The two case studies show that in these settings, NPs are providing leadership, supporting other services, helping to address workforce shortages, improving access to services for rural populations, and therefore demonstrating the positive impact of NPs working in these settings
