Lifting Induction Theorems

AbstractWe show that—in some suitable sense—any induction theorem for the character ring of a finite group can be lifted to an induction theorem for the Green ring. (A precise statement see Theorem A herein.) This provides a uniform proof of important induction theorems, as, for example, the ones of Conlon and Dress. Moreover, we prove an analogue of Brauer's induction theorem for the Green ring (cf. Theorem B herein)

Insulin-Like Growth Factor II (IGF-II) Is More Potent Than IGF-I in Stimulating Cortisol Secretion from Cultured Bovine Adrenocortical Cells: Interaction with the IGF-I Receptor and IGF-Binding Proteins

Although the stimulating effect of insulin-like growth factor I (IGF-I) on adrenal steroidogenesis has been well established, the role of IGF-II in the adult adrenal gland remains unknown. We, therefore, investigated the effect of recombinant human IGF-II on cortisol and cAMP synthesis from adult bovine adrenocortical cells. IGF-II, time and dose dependently, stimulated basal cortisol secretion maximally 3-fold. In combination with ACTH, IGF-II (13 nM) synergistically increased cortisol secretion from 1-fold (10(-8) M ACTH) to 28-fold of untreated control levels. In contrast, IGF-I at equimolar concentrations did not show an effect on basal cortisol secretion, and in combination with ACTH elicited a significant weaker stimulatory effect than IGF-II (22-fold increase). The synergistic effect of IGF-II on ACTH-promoted cortisol secretion was paralleled by accumulation of cAMP in the culture medium. Although both IGF receptors are present in adult bovine adrenocortical cells, the effect of IGF-II seems to be mediated through interaction with the IGF-I receptor, as [Arg54,55]IGF-II, which only binds to the IGF-I receptor, was equipotent to native IGF-II, whereas [Leu27]IGF-II, which preferentially binds to the type II IGF receptor, did not show any effect. By Western ligand blotting, four different molecular forms of IGF-binding proteins (IGFBPs) were identified in conditioned medium of bovine adrenocortical cells with apparent molecular masses of 39-44, 34, 29, and 24 kilodaltons. ACTH treatment increased the abundance of all binding proteins, on the average, 2.3-fold, except for the 29-kDa band, which was predominantly induced 6.8-fold. Additionally, [des1-3]IGF-I, a truncated IGF variant that exhibits only minimal binding to IGFBPs, was significant more potent than IGF-I and elicited the same maximum stimulatory effect on cortisol secretion as IGF-II and [des1-6]IGF-II. In conclusion, these results demonstrate that 1) IGF-II stimulates basal as well as ACTH-induced cortisol secretion from bovine adrenocortical cells more potently than IGF-I; 2) this effect is mediated through interaction of IGF-II with the IGF-I receptor; 3) bovine adrenocortical cells synthesize various IGFBPs that are induced differentially by ACTH; and 4) IGFBPs apparently play a modulatory role in IGF-induced stimulation of adrenal steroidogenesis. Therefore, bovine adult adrenocortical cells provide a useful tissue culture model in which the interactions among locally produced IGFs, IGFBPs, and the IGF-I receptor can be evaluated

Sports Activity After Short-Stem Hip Arthroplasty

Background: No data are available about the sports activity of patients with bone-conserving short-stem hip implants. Hypothesis: Patients can return to a good level of sports activity after implantation of a short-stem hip implant. Study Design: Case series; Level of evidence, 4. Methods: The sports activity level of 68 patients (76 hips) after short-stem hip arthroplasty was assessed for a minimum of 2 years after implantation. In addition to the clinical examination, a detailed evaluation of the patients’ sports pattern was obtained. Furthermore, the results were analyzed with regard to gender (female and male) and age (55 years). Results: After a mean of 2.7 years, patients showed a Harris Hip Score (HHS) of 93.6, a Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Arthritis Index (WOMAC) score of 9.5, and a University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) activity score of 7.6, with each individual participating on average in 3.5 different disciplines after surgery compared with 3.9 before surgery. High-impact activities decreased significantly postoperatively, whereas low-impact activities increased significantly. The duration of the sports activities remained stable, while the frequency actually increased. In contrast, men participated preoperatively in more sports than women (4.3 men vs 3.3 women). However, because of a pronounced decrease in high-impact activities by men, both genders participated in an equal number of sports postoperatively (3.5 men vs 3.5 women). Finally, 45% (n = 31) reported at least one activity that they missed. Most of them were disciplines with an intermediate- or high-impact level. Conclusion: Patients with a short-stem hip implant can return to a good level of activity postoperatively. Participation in sports almost reached similar levels as preoperatively but with a shift from high- to low-impact activities. Deployment of an Distributed Strategic Material Flow Control for Automated Material Flow Systems Consisting of Autonomous Modules

The modularisation of hardware and software is one approach to handle the demand for increasing flexibility and changeability of automated material flow systems that are, for example, utilised in flexible production systems. In such automated material flow systems, autonomous modules communicate with each other to coordinate and execute transport tasks. In this paper a strategic material flow control is introduced, which is distributed on several modules realised with a multi-agent system. The strategic material flow control agent coordinates transport tasks with advanced logistical requirements, such as sequencing. A transport task states for a transport unit the system source and sink together with arrival criteria at the sink, e.g. sequence In order to fulfil the arrival criteria the strategic material flow agent selects additional destinations within the automated material flow system to buffer a transport unit. For the selection of suitable buffer modules, several strategies are proposed and evaluated in a simulation study

An Approach to Data-Based Standardization of Automatic Miniload Warehouses

Automatic miniload warehouses with stacker cranes are used in intralogistics processes to decouple demand from supply. However, these systems are highly complex, requiring an extensive planning phase. Primary stability of cementless threaded acetabular cups at first implantation and in the case of revision regarding micromotions as indicators

The primary stability of cementless total hip endoprosthesis is of vital importance for proximate, long-term osteointegration. The extent of micromotions between implant and acetabulum is an indicator of primary stability. Based on this hypothesis, different cementless hip joint endoprosthesis were studied with regard to their micromotions. The primary stability of nine different cementless threaded acetabular cups was studied in an experimental setup with blocks of rigid foam. The micromotions between implant and implant bearing were therefore evaluated under cyclic, sinusoidal exposure. The blocks of polymer foam were prepared according to the Paprosky defect classifications. The micromotions increased with the increasing degree of the defect with all acetabuli tested. Occasionally coefficients of over 200 mu m were measured. From a defect degree of 3b according to Paprosky, the implants could no longer be appropriately placed. The exterior form of the spherical implants tended to exhibit better coefficients than the conical/parabolic implants

SIMULATION-BASED EVALUATION OF RESERVATION MECHANISMS FOR THE TIME WINDOW ROUTING METHOD

Automated warehouses operated by a fleet of robots offer great flexibility, since fleet size can be adjusted easily to throughput requirements. Furthermore, they provide higher redundancy compared to common solutions for automated storage and retrieval systems.On the other hand, these systems require more complex control strategies to run robustly and efficiently. Special routing and deadlock handling strategies are necessary to avoid blocking and collisions among the robots.In this contribution, we focus on the time window routing method, an approach for avoiding deadlocks byreserving routes in advance. Erste Erfahrungen mit früher und später Stentimplantation bei Myokardinfarkt im Zeitraum von August 1992 bis April 1998 an dem Klinikum Innenstadt der Ludwigs-Maximilians-Universität München mit Ausblick auf die aktuelle Situation der Stentimplantation bei Myokardinfarkt

Die vorliegende Arbeit belegt, dass bei etwa 90% TIMI 3 Fluss nach Stentimplantation mit hoher Sicherheit erzielt werden konnte und dies vor allem in der Gruppe < 24 Stunden mit höherem Anteil an Thrombus und Gefäßokklusion als in der Gruppe ³ 24 Stunden bei überwiegend komplexen Läsionscharakteristika Typ B2 und C. Es zeigte sich in der Angiographie ein geringer Stenosegrad nach Intervention. Und ebenso verzeichnete man auch eine niedrige Rate an Revaskularisierungsmaßnahmen. Aufgrund einer hohen Offenheitsrate des Infarktgefäßes und eine niedrige Revaskularisierungsrate, konnte man die Indikation zur PTCA und Stentimplantation nach Myokardinfarkt am Klinikum Innenstadt München, bei bestehender klinischer Symptomatik, durchaus auch bei später Implantation diskutieren. Unter Berücksichtigung des verhältnismäßig großen Anteils an Risikopatienten in dieser Gruppe, war die Infarktsterblichkeit im Rahmen vergleichbarer Studien. Die Patientengruppe profitierte von einer guten Offenheitsrate des entsprechenden Infarktgefäßes. Die ischämischen Komplikationen blieben im Rahmen vergleichbarer Studien. Die Komplikationsrate war insgesamt mit entsprechenden Studien vergleichbar. Bei den Studien bis März 2003 zeigt sich bei Patienten im akuten Myokardinfarkt sowie im kardiogenen Schock als auch bei Rescue PTCA ein Vorteil der Stentimplantation mit Abciximab gegenüber alleiniger Stentimplantation

Reddit financial image post sentiment dataset

The dataset presented in this paper consists of sentiment information extracted from image and text data of financial subreddit posts. Members of these subreddits post about their trading behavior, express their opinions, and discuss capital market trends. Their posts contain sentiment information on financial topics as well as signaling information on trading decisions. Frequently, members post screenshots of their portfolios from their mobile broker apps. We collected the posts, processed them to extract sentiment scores using various methods, and anonymized them. The dataset consists therefore not of any content from the posts or information about the author, but the processed sentiment information within the post. Further financial tickers mentioned in the posts are tracked, such that the effect of sentiment in the posts can be attributed to financial products and used in the context of financial forecasting. The posts were collected using the Reddit [2] and Pushshift APIs [3] and processed using an Amazon Web Services architecture. A fine-tuned MobileNets artificial neural network [4] was used to classify images into four distinct categories, which had been determined in a preliminary analysis. The categories included classical memes, number posts (e.g. screenshots of mobile broker portfolios), text posts (e.g. screenshots from twitter) and chart posts (e.g. other financial screenshots, such as charts). The reason for the classification of images into the four categories is that the images are so inherently different, that different extraction methods had to be applied for each category. OCR – methods [5] were used to extract text from images. Custom methods were applied to extract sentiment and other information from the resulting text.
