Comment on "Order parameter of A-like 3He phase in aerogel"
We argue that the inhomogeneous A-phase in aerogel is energetically more
preferable than the "robust" phase suggested by I. A. Fomin, JETP Lett. 77, 240
(2003); cond-mat/0302117 and cond-mat/0401639.Comment: 2 page
Stable vortex-antivortex molecules in mesoscopic superconducting triangles
A thermodynamically stable vortex-antivortex pattern has been revealed in
mesoscopic type I superconducting triangles, contrary to type II
superconductors where similar patterns are unstable. The stable
vortex-antivortex "molecule" appears due to the interplay between two factors:
a repulsive vortex-antivortex interaction in type I superconductors and the
vortex confinement in the triangle.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures, E-mail addresses: [email protected],

A New World Average Value for the Neutron Lifetime
The analysis of the data on measurements of the neutron lifetime is
presented. A new most accurate result of the measurement of neutron lifetime
[Phys. Lett. B 605 (2005) 72] 878.5 +/- 0.8 s differs from the world average
value [Phys. Lett. B 667 (2008) 1] 885.7 +/- 0.8 s by 6.5 standard deviations.
In this connection the analysis and Monte Carlo simulation of experiments
[Phys. Lett. B 483 (2000) 15] and [Phys. Rev. Lett. 63 (1989) 593] is carried
out. Systematic errors of about -6 s are found in each of the experiments. The
summary table for the neutron lifetime measurements after corrections and
additions is given. A new world average value for the neutron lifetime 879.9
+/- 0.9 s is presented.Comment: 27 pages, 13 figures; Fig.13 update
Photoluminescence of tetrahedral quantum-dot quantum wells
Taking into account the tetrahedral shape of a quantum dot quantum well
(QDQW) when describing excitonic states, phonon modes and the exciton-phonon
interaction in the structure, we obtain within a non-adiabatic approach a
quantitative interpretation of the photoluminescence (PL) spectrum of a single
CdS/HgS/CdS QDQW. We find that the exciton ground state in a tetrahedral QDQW
is bright, in contrast to the dark ground state for a spherical QDQW.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figure
Orbital Magnetization of Quantum Spin Hall Insulator Nanoparticles
Both spin and orbital degrees of freedom contribute to the magnetic moment of
isolated atoms. However, when inserted in crystals, atomic orbital moments are
quenched because of the lack of rotational symmetry that protects them when
isolated. Thus, the dominant contribution to the magnetization of magnetic
materials comes from electronic spin. Here we show that nanoislands of quantum
spin Hall insulators can host robust orbital edge magnetism whenever their
highest occupied Kramers doublet is singly occupied, upgrading the spin edge
current into a charge current. The resulting orbital magnetization scales
linearly with size, outweighing the spin contribution for islands of a few nm
in size. This linear scaling is specific of the Dirac edge states and very
different from Schrodinger electrons in quantum rings. Modelling Bi(111)
flakes, whose edge states have been recently observed, we show that orbital
magnetization is robust with respect to disorder, thermal agitation, shape of
the island and crystallographic direction of the edges, reflecting its
topological protection.Comment: 7 pages, 5 figures, + Supporting Informatio
Superconductivity in a Mesoscopic Double Square Loop: Effect of Imperfections
We have generalized the network approach to include the effects of
short-range imperfections in order to analyze recent experiments on mesoscopic
superconducting double loops. The presence of weakly scattering imperfections
causes gaps in the phase boundary or for certain intervals of
, which depend on the magnetic flux penetrating each loop. This is
accompanied by a critical temperature , showing a smooth transition
between symmetric and antisymmetric states. When the scattering strength of
imperfections increases beyond a certain limit, gaps in the phase boundary
or appear for values of magnetic flux lying in intervals
around half-integer . The critical temperature corresponding to
these values of magnetic flux is determined mainly by imperfections in the
central branch. The calculated phase boundary is in good agreement with
experiment.Comment: 9 pages, 6 figure
Applications of BGP-reflection functors: isomorphisms of cluster algebras
Given a symmetrizable generalized Cartan matrix , for any index , one
can define an automorphism associated with of the field of rational functions of independent indeterminates It is an isomorphism between two cluster algebras associated to the
matrix (see section 4 for precise meaning). When is of finite type,
these isomorphisms behave nicely, they are compatible with the BGP-reflection
functors of cluster categories defined in [Z1, Z2] if we identify the
indecomposable objects in the categories with cluster variables of the
corresponding cluster algebras, and they are also compatible with the
"truncated simple reflections" defined in [FZ2, FZ3]. Using the construction of
preprojective or preinjective modules of hereditary algebras by Dlab-Ringel
[DR] and the Coxeter automorphisms (i.e., a product of these isomorphisms), we
construct infinitely many cluster variables for cluster algebras of infinite
type and all cluster variables for finite types.Comment: revised versio
