Immigration and continued education within the nursing assemblage in the sanitary environment of Lleida
El aumento significativo de la inmigraci贸n en
los 煤ltimos a帽os supone un nuevo reto para la
enfermer铆a.
Objetivos: conocer la situaci贸n actual de la
formaci贸n de enfermer铆a respecto a la inmigraci贸n,
su inter茅s por formarse y las dificultades y necesidades
que tienen en materia de inmigraci贸n.
Metodolog铆a: estudio descriptivo y transversal
analizando una muestra representativa de todos los
profesionales de enfermer铆a colegiados en la provincia
de Lleida. Para la recogida de datos se utiliz贸
un cuestionario y el an谩lisis estad铆stico se realiz贸
con el programa inform谩tico SPSS versi贸n 13.0. Resultados: m谩s del 90% de los profesionales
de enfermer铆a de la provincia de Lleida son mujeres
menores de 50 a帽os y que mayoritariamente
trabajan en atenci贸n hospitalaria. No obstante el
inter茅s expresado por temas relacionados con la inmigraci贸n, s贸lo el 24% ha realizado alg煤n tipo
de formaci贸n al respecto. La mayor铆a tambi茅n
reconoce tener problemas de comunicaci贸n con los
inmigrantes. Las sugerencias recogidas en el cuestionario
se categorizaron en modelos de integraci贸n
y en formaci贸n.
Conclusi贸n: la formaci贸n de enfermer铆a en
inmigraci贸n es baja y se debe a su elevado coste y
a que no se realiza en horario laboral. En t茅rminos
generales, los profesionales de enfermer铆a que se
dedican a la Atenci贸n Primaria de salud, muestran
mayor inter茅s por formarse y mayor flexibilidad
para modificar los protocolos y cuidados que sus
hom贸nimos hospitalarios.The significant immigration increase in the
latest years implies a new challenge for nurses.
Aim: To detect the present situation in the
nurse education field related to immigrants; their
interest to get acquainted with immigrant difficulties
and needs.
Methodology: A descriptive, transversal study
from a representative sample of the whole body of
nursing professionals in the Lleida environment
was accomplished. For data collection a questionnaire
was presented, for the statistical analysis a
computer programme SPSS, version 13.0 was
used.
Outcomes: More than 90% of the nursing professionals
in the Lleida area are women 50 years or
younger, most of them working in hospital wards. Although some interest towards immigration was
shown, only 24% of them had some special education
on the matter. Most of them expressed to have
communication difficulties with immigrants.
Suggestions gathered in the questionnaire set
models for integration and education.
Conclusions: Nursing education with regard to
immigration is very poor. Reasons, first: high
costs, and second: working schedules. In general
terms, nursing professionals of Primary Health
show more interest to cope and are more flexible in
punctual cases of adapting protocols and care than
their peers in hospital areas
