Fichte and Hegel on Recognition
In this paper I provide an interpretation of Hegel’s account of ‘recognition’ (Anerkennung) in the 1802-3 System of Ethical Life as a critique of Fichte’s account of recognition in the 1796-7 Foundations of Natural Right. In the first three sections of the paper I argue that Fichte’s account of recognition in the domain of right is not concerned with recognition as a moral attitude. I then turn, in section four, to a discussion of Hegel’s critique and transformation of Fichte’s conception of recognition. Hegel’s transformation consists, I argue, in the claim that a comprehensive account of recognition in the domain of right must be concerned with recognition as a moral attitude
An Economic Assessment of Soil Carbon Sequestration with Biochar in Germany
Biochar is a carbon-rich solid obtained from the heating of biomass in the (near) absence of oxygen in a process called pyrolysis. Its soil incorporation is increasingly discussed as a means to sequester carbon in soils and, thus, to help mitigate climate change. When deployed in agricultural soils in Germany, it has been found by Teichmann (2014a, b) that slowpyrolysis biochar from a wide variety of feedstocks - together with the use of the pyrolysis by-products (liquids and gases) as renewable sources of energy - could lead to an annual mitigation of up to 10.2 million tonnes of carbon-dioxide equivalents by 2030 and of up to 10.6 million tonnes by 2050. To analyze whether this technically feasible greenhouse-gas mitigation potential is also economically viable, we calculate the corresponding greenhousegas mitigation costs and construct so-called marginal abatement cost curves. Thereby, we find that about 3.1 million tonnes of carbon-dioxide equivalents could be abated in 2030 at costs below €201245 per tonne of carbon dioxide and nearly 3.8 million tonnes in 2050 at costs below €201275 per tonne of carbon dioxide
Inclusion of the frequency effect in the lumped parameters transmission line model: State space formulation
The objective of this paper is to include the frequency dependence of the longitudinal parameters in the lumped parameters line model. The distributed nature of the transmission line was approximated by a cascade of pi circuits and the frequency effect was approximated by a rational function which was synthesized by an equivalent circuit. Then, the equivalent circuit was inserted in each pi circuit of the cascade. After that, the Currents and voltages along the line were described in the form of state equations. This way, it was possible to obtain a formation rule of the state matrices lumped parameters model taking into account the frequency dependence. To confirm the validation of the state matrices obtained, the lumped parameters representation of frequency-dependent lines was used to represent a single-phase line and a three-phase line. The Simulations were carried out using state space techniques and an electromagnetic transient program (EMTP) (in this case, the cascade was inserted in the EMTP). It is observed that the simulation results obtained with state space representation are in agreement with those results obtained with EMTP (C) 2009 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.7971155116
