RADICALIZING FIRST YEAR COMPOSITION: A NOVICE EDUCATOR’S VENTURE INTO REVOLUTIONARY TEACHING
This project is based on my experiences and reflections as a novice instructor on implementing educational practices which center a critical, feminist, anti-racist pedagogical approach in a first year composition course. Using my own experiences of teaching FYC as a central focus, this project will collect data through teacher-reflective journals. Those journals will be focused on how radical pedagogy shapes my approaches to teaching and how I experience/implement that approach in my day-to-day practices. In doing so, this project aims to address the persistent gap between theory and practice, particularly in the context of novice educators’ experiences in a FYC class. The primary goal of this project is to offer insights in how the field might better guide educators who are committed to radical, critical, feminist, and anti-racist pedagogies to enact those pedagogies from the start of their careers, rather than having to learn how to teach the “traditional” way first, only to have to unlearn those approaches later.
While the 1974 CCCC/NCTE resolution “Student Rights to Their Own Language” is considered a foundational text in the composition field, that resolution has yet to become a reality (Horner et al., Hudley and Mallinson, Kinloch, Lovejoy) and the privileging of “standard English” continues to live on in many composition classrooms, to the detriment of all students. The composition field has long acknowledged such educational practices uphold linguistic prejudice, institutionalized racism and other caustic hegemonic ideologies (Baker- Bell, Jones Stanbrough, and Everett, Rawls, Young,). Laura Greenfield proposes a radical pedagogical praxis which would destabilize institutionalized forms of oppression, examine the politics behind writing and help students critically analyze how power/oppression is working in their own lives and in their language use. That praxis would be characterized by explicitly questioning language hierarchies (Inoue, Young, Lippi-Green), changing harmful grading practices (Poe and Inoue, Elbow, Shor) and centering scholars of color. A radical teaching praxis must be deeply critical (Freire, Shor, Giroux), as that pedagogy has long been looked at as a way to counter harmful hegemonic educational practices.
The composition field is flooded with calls to reject harmful teaching practices yet, the field is also not preparing its teachers to do so. Mosher calls training in the understanding of linguistic diversity “far from wide spread”(2) in teacher preparation and in higher education as a whole. The theorization of the need to change these practices “has far outpaced pedagogical practices for advancing this proficiency in classroom” (Canagarajah). The onus lies entirely upon the novice educator to put these practices into action, without any overt professionalism training on how to do so.
Building from Greenfield and Freire’s work and undergirded by Inoue’s question of “how can we language so that people stop killing each other”, this project will explore the experience of designing and implementing a class that sits at the intersection of teaching writing and pursuing social justice via equitable educational practices. It will contribute to bridging the gap between the call to action and the actual practical application of that call
EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE MODEL FOR DIRECTORS OF RESEARCH CENTERS IN MEXICO
The objective of this article is to show the results of IE-Martruj, a model designed for measuring emotional intelligence in directors of research centers (RCs), which was appliedto forty-three directors of research centers in Mexico. The validation model and reliability tests are described in detail, as well as the mathematical formulae used. As a general conclusion of this research, we show that: The model studied is an adequate instrument for the task proposed, and that the Emotional intelligence (EI) of directors of RCs is positively associated with: motivation, self-assessment, self-regulation, empathy and social skills. Also, the following hypotheses were tested with positive results:H1 - Motivation, initiative, optimism and involvement are conditions positively correlated with the effectiveness of directors of RCs.H2 - Self knowledge, emotional awareness, precise self evaluation and self awareness are positively correlated with each other, and are essential parts of intrapersonal intelligence.H3 - Self-regulation, self control, adaptability and self awareness are positively correlated with each other, and are also part of intrapersonal intelligence.H4 - Empathy, comprehension of others, development of subordinates´ skills, readiness to serve, capacity to manage diversity, and political coherence exhibited by an RC directorare positively correlated with each other, and are part of interpersonal intelligence.H5 - Social skills exhibited by directors, that are also part of interpersonal intelligence, allow a director to exert a greater influence on the working group, facilitating communication, conflict management, leadership, collaboration, cooperation and development of team skills.Emotional intelligence, Interpersonalintelligence, Intrapersonalintelligence, Models of intelligence,Assessment of intelligence, Researchcenters.
EPIYA: A, AABBCC, AABBC, AB, ABBBCC, ABBCCC, ABC, ABCC, ABCCC,
No
displasia. Objective To determine the association between the type of EPIYA patterns in
Helicobacter pylori CagA + strains isolated from dyspeptic patients from hospitals
in 4 cities in northern Peru and atrophy, metaplasia, or dysplasia of the gastric
mucosa.
Material and methods. A cross - sectional observational analytic study was
carried out, in which 164 isolates of H. pylori were evaluated from cultures of
gastric biopsies of dyspeptic patients. The cagA gene of extracted genomic DNA
was amplified using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) to determine the type of
EPIYA pattern. In parallel, the pathological analysis of the gastric biopsies was
performed to observe atrophy, metaplasia or dysplasia of the gastric mucosa.
Results. Of the 164 isolates of H. pylori obtained, it was found that 91.5% have
the cagA gene in their genome. We found 13 types of EPIYA pattern: A, AABBCC,
AABBC, AB, ABBBCC, ABBCCC, ABC, ABCC, ABCCC, AC, ACC, BC, BCC; the
most frequent pattern was ABC. This pattern exists more frequently in biopsies
with atrophy and metaplasia. There is no statistical association between the type
of EPIYA pattern found in the isolated H. pylori CagA+ strains and pathological
alterations tested, except between atrophy and type of EPIYA pattern (p=0.018)
in samples obtained in the city of Cajamarca.
Conclusions. A diversity of EPIYA patterns was identified for the first time in the
strains of H. pylori CagA + isolated from dyspeptic patients from 4 cities in
northern Peru; these patterns do not have a statistical association with atrophy,
metaplasia and dysplasia.Tesi
Árbitro Unipersonal (resolución N° 110-2012-SUNARP-TR-T).During the last years, our Legal System has been violated by the various forms of fraud that
have been occurring in the transfers of immovable property, in which, criminal organizations
are appropriating foreign assets through fraudulent arbitration proceedings; For this purpose, are
protected in the legal support that has the arbitration award, which is not subject to any
observation by the public registrar; consequently, proceed with the registration of the same in
the registry. So that, this situation would be in contravention of the right to property enjoyed by
all persons, enshrined in paragraph 16 of Article 2º of our Constitution.
It is so, the Regulation of Registration of the Register of Buildings (resolution Nº 097-2013-
SUNARP-SN), establishes in the third paragraph of Article 9 that: ""The registrar shall not be
able to evaluate the competence of the Arbitral Tribunal or Arbitrator to clarify, the content of
the award, nor the ability of the arbitrators to execute it. Nor can it qualify the validity of the
arbitration agreement nor its correspondence with the content of the award"". Likewise, the
Precedent of Compulsory Enforcement (resolution Nº 382-2012-SUNARP/PT) adopts a firm
criterion, in which, its support is based on an Act on the Prescription of Property Acquisition
declared by Unipersonal Arbitrator (resolution No. 110-2012 -SUNARP-TR-T).Tesi
Background: Excess weight and depression have been studied due to the high prevalence in the population, the evidence indicates that there is a bidirectionality of origin and development of these diseases. Additionally, genetic load has been significantly associated in these diseases, an example is the polymorphism of the promoter region of the serotonin transporter gene (5-HTTLPR), studies report that this genetic factor can condition and aggravate the symptoms present in both conditions. Objective: Collect, review, and analyze published studies of the relationship between 5-HTTLPR polymorphism for the development of depression in overweight-obese people. Methods: Using the PRISMA checklist guidelines, a systematic search was performed in the databases: PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science (Science Citation Index Expanded and Social Sciences Citation Index) and EBSCO (Academic Search Complete, Academic Source and MedicLatina). The Web 3.0 platform: Critical Reading Files was used to analyze the quality of the studiesResults: Seven studies were included, which provided evidence of the relationship between 5-HTTLPR polymorphism, depression and increased BMI / overweight-obesity.Conclusion: The evidence analyzed shows that the 5-HTTLPR polymorphism is linked to the development and symptoms of depression and obesity. Information that health personnel must consider in order to carry out treatments and care plans according to the needs of individuals with these conditions.
Chapter 21- Mentoring Graduate Underrepresented Minorities in STEM
In this chapter, we discuss high-impact mentoring practices for graduate students in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). We make a case for inclusive and assets/strengths-based mentoring approaches as a strategy for increasing the number of doctoral degrees awarded to historically underrepresented minorities (i.e., Hispanics, African Americans, Native Americans, Alaska Natives, and Pacific Islanders); improving their levels of satisfaction with doctoral programs and reducing the notoriously extended time to the PhD that they endure. We offer two examples of national programs committed to promoting graduate student success through professional development and mentoring strategies in which instrumental support, sponsorship, psychological support, and access to funding play key roles. We also summarize relevant aspects of assessing a mentorship project and highlight the culture of an institution with sustainable mentoring practices. We conclude with recommendations and provide additional perspective on the need for scaling up the replication of evidence-based practices through effective activities such as mentorship workshops for faculty

Effects of Pleistocene climate changes on species ranges and evolutionary processes in the Neotropical Atlantic Forest
The effects of global glaciations on the distribution of organisms is an essential element of many diversification models. However, the empirical evidence supporting this idea is mixed, in particular with respect to explaining tropical forest evolution. In the present study, we evaluated the impacts of range shifts associated with Pleistocene global glacial cycles on the evolution of tropical forests. In particular, we tested the predictions: (1) that population genetic structure increases with fragmentation variation between the present and the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM) and also (2) with geographical range instability; and (3) that genetic diversity increases with range stability and (4) decreases with fragmentation variation between periods. To address our predictions, we studied population genetic structures and modelled present and past distributions of 15 Atlantic Forest (AF) endemic birds. Afterwards, we evaluated the relationship of population genetic parameters with metrics of species range shifts between the present and the LGM. We found that geographical ranges of AF birds changed in concert with Pleistocene glacial cycles but, unexpectedly, our findings suggest the novel idea that ranges during glacial maxima were slightly larger on average, as well as equally fragmented and displaced from the interglacial ranges. Our findings suggest that range shifts over the late Pleistocene impacted on the diversification of forest organisms, although they did not show that those range shifts had a strong effect. We found that a combination of fragmentation variation across time, small current range size, and range stability increased population genetic structure. However, neither fragmentation, nor range stability affected genetic diversity. Our study showed that evolutionary responses to range shifts across AF birds have a high variance, which could explain the mixed support given by single-species studies to the action of Pleistocene range shifts on population evolution.
