Development and Validation of a BI Success Model
We propose and test a BI Success model, based on DeLone and McLean’s IS Success model, that incorporates comprehensive data that is needed for decision-making and computer systems that allow integration and analysis of that data as dimensions of BI success. Our model also includes organizational support structure for BI and the users’ involvement in the ongoing development of BI systems as contributing factors. Data collected from over 300 organizations across the world confirmed 7 of 9 hypothesized relationships. Notably, user involvement and the organizational support factors are seen to be associated with the BI capability factors which, in turn, are positively associated with users’ perception of net benefits and their satisfaction with BI practices. This is one of the first studies that evaluates the success of BI at organizational level and considers user involvement, characterized by on-going configuration / customization / improvement cycle, as a contributing factor in the classic IS Success model
Knowledge Process Support: A Business Process Study of a Knowledge Management System
Although it seems intuitive that Knowledge Management Systems (KMS) should have a positive impact on the management of knowledge, research has not focused on establishing empirical evidence of this relationship and the subsequent theoretical implications. The management of knowledge encompasses multiple organizational entities and an established KMS must support the knowledge work for each entity. Knowledge processes (generation, codification, and transfer) are embedded in business processes. An application of KMS is needed in order to facilitate these knowledge processes, therefore supporting the business processes. We present evidence of the relationship between a KMS and Knowledge Processes by describing two organizational entities in terms of their different knowledge needs. We provide evidence of how the KMS is utilized by both entities. Survey data was collected from a large semiconductor manufacturer. Results indicate the KMS supports Knowledge Processes in different degrees according to each entity’s knowledge needs. Despite this difference, the two entities have a positive perception of how the KMS impacts Knowledge Processes
Time varying term premia and risK: The case of the spanish interbank money market.
Business Intelligence Capability: The Effect of Top Management and the Mediating Roles of User Participation and Analytical Decision Making Orientation
In this study, we draw on the structurational model of technology in an institutional setting to investigate how top management affects the development of a firm’s business intelligence (BI) capability. We propose a multiple mediator model in which organizational factors, such as user participation and analytical decision making orientation, act as mediating mechanisms that transmit the positive effects of top management championship to advance a firm’s BI capability. BI capability has two distinct aspects: information capability and BI system capability. Drawing on data collected from 486 firms from six different countries, we found support for the mediating effects of top management championship through user participation and analytical decision making orientation. These findings contribute to a nuanced understanding of how firms can develop BI capability. This study is one of the first to comprehensively investigate the antecedents of BI capability

Building on Redundancy: Factoid Question Answering, Robust Retrieval and the "Other"
We have explored how redundancy based techniques can be used in improving factoid question answering, definitional
questions (“other”), and robust retrieval. For the factoids, we explored the meta approach: we submit the questions to the
several open domain question answering systems available on the Web and applied our redundancy-based triangulation
algorithm to analyze their outputs in order to identify the most promising answers. Our results support the added value of the
meta approach: the performance of the combined system surpassed the underlying performances of its components. To
answer definitional (“other”) questions, we were looking for the sentences containing re-occurring pairs of noun entities
containing the elements of the target. For robust retrieval, we applied our redundancy based Internet mining technique to
identify the concepts (single word terms or phrases) that were highly related to the topic (query) and expanded the queries
with them. All our results are above the mean performance in the categories in which we have participated, with one of our
robust runs being the best in its category among all 24 participants. Overall, our findings support the hypothesis that using as
much as possible textual data, specifically such as mined from the World Wide Web, is extremely promising.published_or_final_versio
