Structure-dependent radiative corrections to phi -> K^+K^-/K_LK_S decays
Current predictions for the ratio of phi -> K^+K^-/K_LK_S decay rates exceed
the corresponding experimental value in about five standard deviations. By far,
the dominant sources of isospin breaking to this ratio are the phase-space
(52%) and the electromagnetic radiative (4.3%, computed within scalar QED)
corrections. Here we estimate the effects of the electromagnetic structure of
kaons and other model-dependent contributions into the radiative corrections.Comment: 8 pages, Latex, 2 .eps figure

A holistic and participatory information system for rural water and sanitation sector in Latin America and the Caribbean
The provision of water supply, sanitation and hygiene services has emerged as a top priority in the development agenda in Latin American and the Caribbean. In light of the investments envisaged to reach the targets set by the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), information systems (IS) will play a key role in improving decision-making. In this context, this article introduces a global IS which is increasingly implemented in a number of countries across Latin America and the Caribbean as a policy instrument to support national and local decision-making: the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Information System (SIASAR). This information system includes a comprehensive framework for data collection, data analysis and data dissemination that simultaneously fulfils different stakeholders’ needs. This article analyses these three key monitoring issues from the viewpoint of stakeholders’ involvement. Results indicate that SIASAR represents a suitable monitoring framework to analyse sustainable services and the level of service delivered. Additionally, it is highlighted the advantages of adopting a continued participatory approach in system development, namely i) the stimulation of experience exchange and knowledge sharing among recipient counties, ii) the promotion of learnt-by-doing, and iii) an increase of regional understanding, collaboration and comparison.Postprint (published version
Gravitational Wave Signatures of Highly Magnetized Neutron Stars
Motivated by the recent gravitational wave detection by the LIGO-VIRGO
observatories, we study the Love number and dimensionless tidal polarizability
of highly magnetized stars. We also investigate the fundamental quasi-normal
mode of neutron stars subject to high magnetic fields. To perform our
calculations we use the chaotic field approximation and consider both nucleonic
and hyperonic stars. As far as the fundamental mode is concerned, we conclude
that the role played by the constitution of the stars is far more relevant than
the intensity of the magnetic field and if massive stars are considered, the
ones constituted by nucleons only present frequencies somewhat lower than the
ones with hyperonic cores, a feature that can be used to point out the real
internal structure of neutron stars. Moreover, our studies clearly indicate
that strong magnetic fields play a crucial role in the deformability of low
mass neutron stars, with possible consequences on the interpretation of the
detected gravitational waves signatures.Comment: 24 pages, 4 figures, 6 table
Long-distance radiative corrections to the di-pion tau lepton decay
We evaluate the model-dependent piece of O(alpha) long-distance radiative
corrections to tau^- \to \pi^- \pi^0\nu_{\tau} decays by using a meson
dominance model. We find that these corrections to the di-pion invariant mass
spectrum are smaller than in previous calculations based on chiral perturbation
theory. The corresponding correction to the photon inclusive rate is tiny
(-0.15%) but it can be of relevance when new measurements reach better
precision.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figures. An estimate of the shift produced in the
evaluation of the h.v.p. contribution to the muon anomalous magnetic moment
is added. Version to appear in Phys. Rev.
