Multiparticle Schrodinger operators with point interactions in the plane
We study a system of N bosons in the plane interacting with delta function
potentials. After a coupling constant renormalization we show that the
Hamiltonian defines a self-adjoint operator and obtain a lower bound for the
energy. The same results hold if one includes a regular inter-particle
potential.Comment: 17 pages, Late

The concept of historical memory appears to be particularly useful to the sociology of commitment. From the perspective of transmission and the system of interactions it is based on, it allows us to question the way individual experiences are brought into line with the historical memory. Through the process of recruitment of the French Trotskyist organization « Lutte ouvrière » (considered as a case study), the concrete ways of the transmission of memory reveals, way before the formal commitment, how the revolutionary communist subject is produced.
Taking action and joining an activist organization has often been introduced as the foremost questions to be answered by sociology of activist commitment. And yet far too little attention has been paid to commitment outside the institutional frame: long before joining any organization, how do we come to feel politically committed? This paper is based on a participant observation of the recruitment methods of a French Trotskyist organization, as well as a dozen of life stories with young recruits of this organization. Recruits are indeed to undergo several trials before being granted full “professional revolutionary” membership. Emotions actively contribute to spawning the recruits’ political subjectivity through their experience of the recruitment methods. The study of emotions from a phenomenological perspective may thus throw into relief certain features of political commitment that might otherwise be missed

Background:Definitive or postoperative chemoradiation (CRT) is highly curative for human papillomavirus-associated (HPV+) oropharynx cancer (OPC) but induces significant toxicity. As a potential deintensification strategy, we studied primary transoral surgery (TOS) and, in intermediate pathologic risk patients, reduced dose postoperative RT (PORT).Methods:E3311 is a phase II trial with randomization to reduced- or standard-dose PORT for resected stage III-IVa (AJCC7) intermediate pathologic risk HPV+ OPC, stratified by smoking history. Primary endpoints have been reported; we now present updated 3-year PFS and patient-reported outcomes (PRO), including head and neck-cancer specific quality of life (FACT-H&N) and swallowing perception and performance (MDADI).Results:Of 519 enrolled patients, 495 underwent TOS. The primary oncologic endpoint was 2-year PFS for 50 Gy (Arm B) or 60Gy (Arm C). Among 360 eligible and treated patients (ETP), Arm A (observation, N = 38) enrolled 11%, Arms B (N = 100) or C (N = 109) randomized 58%, and Arm D (66Gy + weekly cisplatin, N = 113) enrolled 31%. With 35.1 months median follow-up, 3-year PFS Kaplan-Meier estimate is 96.9% (90% CI [91.9%, 100%]) for Arm A; 94.9% (90% CI [91.3%, 98.6%]) for Arm B; 93.5% (90% CI [89.4%, 97.9%]) for Arm C; and 90.7% (90% CI [86.2%, 95.4%]) for Arm D. Recurrences and death without recurrence were 4 and 1 in Arm B, and 5 and one in Arm C. Smokers ( \u3e 10 pack-years) did not have worse 3-year PFS in Arms B or C. Treatment arm distribution and outcome for ineligible patients who started adjuvant therapy mirrored the 360 ETP. A comparison combining arms B/C versus arm D in the proportion of patients stable/improved in FACT-H&N total score, from baseline to 6 months post-treatment as a pre-specified endpoint, was 56% vs. 38% (p value = 0.011, one-sided Fisher’s exact test); however, underlying differences in treatment and risk may be confounding. An exploratory comparison between Arms B and C revealed improvement in FACT H&N (63% in Arm B vs. 49% in Arm C had a stable/improved score, p-value = 0.056).Conclusions:Primary TOS and reduced PORT retained outstanding oncologic outcome at 35 months follow up, with favorable QOL and functional outcomes, in intermediate risk HPV+ OPC. Enhancing the Membranolytic Activity of Chenopodium quinoa Saponins by Fast Microwave Hydrolysis
peer reviewedSaponins are plant secondary metabolites. There are associated with defensive roles due
to their cytotoxicity and are active against microorganisms. Saponins are frequently targeted to
develop efficient drugs. Plant biomass containing saponins deserves sustained interest to develop
high-added value applications. A key issue when considering the use of saponins for human
healthcare is their toxicity that must be modulated before envisaging any biomedical application.
This can only go through understanding the saponin-membrane interactions. Quinoa is abundantly
consumed worldwide, but the quinoa husk is discarded due to its astringent taste associated with its
saponin content. Here, we focus on the saponins of the quinoa husk extract (QE). We qualitatively
and quantitively characterized the QE saponins using mass spectrometry. They are bidesmosidic
molecules, with two oligosaccharidic chains appended on the aglycone with two different linkages;
a glycosidic bond and an ester function. The latter can be hydrolyzed to prepare monodesmosidic
molecules. The microwave-assisted hydrolysis reaction was optimized to produce monodesmosidic
saponins. The membranolytic activity of the saponins was assayed based on their hemolytic activity
that was shown to be drastically increased upon hydrolysis. In silico investigations confirmed that
the monodesmosidic saponins interact preferentially with a model phospholipid bilayer, explaining
the measured increased hemolytic activity
