    Leksikalsk beskrivelse av adjektiv

Adjectives are parts of speech which deserve more attention in dictionary making than they usually get. Instead of ad hoc-solutions they would be more consistently and informatively defined by systematic use of relevant semantic meaning relations. The article presents a review of definitions offour adjectives through six standard dictionaries, pointing at good and less good features in their semantic descriptions

The lexicon of the modern Norwegian bokmål standard needs a better description and documentation than what is the situation today. The article presents a plan for building a modern lexical database based on a balanced corpus of 40 million words of modern bokmål. This base should serve as a source for a traditional scientific dictionary as well as a dictionary for language technological applications

The Norwegian language allows many variant forms, both in its morphology and orthography. The background is that for many years the goal of official language policy was to combine the two standards Bokmål and Nynorsk into one common standard, called Samnorsk. Now this goal is abandoned, but still standardized dictionaries have to account for all variant forms without showing preference for any of them. This rule creates many problems for lexicographers, and with the introduction of better marking and explanation of stylistic and dialectal variation it might better be abolished, especially when variant forms have undergone semantic split

Noen vanskelige adjektiver i leksikografisk perspektiv

    Get PDF
The main purpose of this paper is to discuss how some special adjectives are described in dictionaries. A field-semantic analysis of non-restrictive adjectives shows inconsistencies and incompleteness in lemmaselection and semantic description in two authorized Scandinavian dictionaries. According to a cognitive analysis of adjectives it shows that non-restrictiveness is a matter of use more than of adjective type. The paper concludes that this should also be taken into account when choosing examples and polysemes in dictionary definitions
