Single observable concurrence measurement without simultaneous copies

We present a protocol that allows us to obtain the concurrence of any two qubit pure state by performing a minimal and optimal tomography of one of the subsystems through measuring a single observable of an ancillary four dimensional qudit. Quantum mechanical counterpart of nonlinear optics

Raman-type laser excitation of a trapped atom allows one to realize the quantum mechanical counterpart of phenomena of nonlinear optics, such as Kerr-type nonlinearities, parametric amplification, and multi-mode mixing. Additionally, huge nonlinearities emerge from the interference of the atomic wave function with the laser waves. They lead to a partitioning of the phase space accompanied by a significantly different action of the time evolution in neighboring phase-space zones. Quantum signatures of chaos in the dynamics of a trapped ion

We show how a nonlinear chaotic system, the parametrically kicked nonlinear oscillator, may be realised in the dynamics of a trapped, laser-cooled ion, interacting with a sequence of standing wave pulses. Unlike the original optical scheme [G.J.Milburn and C.A.Holmes, Phys. Rev A, 44, p4704, (1991)], the trapped ion enables strongly quantum dynamics with minimal dissipation. Quantum-state synthesis of multi-mode bosonic fields: Preparation of arbitrary states of 2-D vibrational motion of trapped ions

We present a universal algorithm for an efficient deterministic preparation of an arbitrary two--mode bosonic state. In particular, we discuss in detail preparation of entangled states of a two-dimensional vibrational motion of a trapped ion via a sequence of laser stimulated Raman transitions. Our formalism can be generalized for multi-mode bosonic fields. On a generalization of the binomial distribution and its Poisson-like limit

We examine a generalization of the binomial distribution associated with a strictly increasing sequence of numbers and we prove its Poisson-like limit. Such generalizations might be found in quantum optics with imperfect detection. O experimento foi conduzido na Embrapa Meio-Norte, em Teresina, PI, Brasil, no ano de 2003

Macroscopically distinct quantum superposition states as a bosonic code for amplitude damping

We show how macroscopically distinct quantum superposition states (Schroedinger cat states) may be used as logical qubit encodings for the correction of spontaneous emission errors. Spontaneous emission causes a bit flip error which is easily corrected by a standard error correction circuit. Decoherence and robustness of parity-dependent entanglement in the dynamics of a trapped ion

We study the entanglement between the 2D vibrational motion and two ground state hyperfine levels of a trapped ion, Under particular conditions this entanglement depends on the parity of the total initial vibrational quanta. We study the robustness of this quantum coherence effect with respect to the presence of non-dissipative sources of decoherence, and of an imperfect initial state preparation.Comment: 13 pages, 5 figure

Metodologias participativas na compreensão do capital social em comunidades rurais no Nordeste paraense.

É essencial o estudo mais aprofundado das varáveis sociais que circundam as comunidades rurais, remetendo uma abordagem multidimensional aos sistemas, cujas contribuições vão além de aspectos meramente tecnológicos ou agronômicos. O objetivo deste trabalho é analisar a utilização de metodologias participativas, como forma de compreender os processos das relações das comunidades parceiras ao projeto Tipitamba com atores institucionais e qual a importância dessas relações para o capital social das comunidades. O estudo baseou-se na combinação de métodos participativos como oficina; diagrama de Veen; conversas com a comunidade sobre como a pesquisa seria realizada; relato das percepções dos agricultores e entrevistas as quais foram norteadas pelo Questionário Integrado para Medir Capital Social ? QI MCS, proposto por Grootaert et. al. (2003), com algumas adaptações a fim de adequá-la aos objetivos da pesquisa e a realidade das comunidades analisadas. As entrevistas semi-estruturadas permitiram analisar dados quantitativos e qualitativos a cerca das dimensões do capital social, dentre os dados quantitativos coletados nas entrevistas está à interação das associações com outros grupos ou instituições, evidenciou-se que existem associações em que o nível de interação com instituições ou grupos com objetivos semelhantes é maior e outras que essa interação é quase inexistente. O Diagrama de Venn se mostrou uma importante ferramenta para que os agricultores pudessem visualizar como estão as relações das comunidades com atores internos e externos, além disso, reconhecerem a importância destes fatores nos processos de decisão e desenvolvimento comunitário
