Indochinese Mental Health In North America: Measures, Status, and Treatments
The massive influx of Indochinese refugees and immigrants to North America since the end of the Indochina war, especially to the United States of America, has resulted in numerous multi-disciplinary efforts to document and study their mental well-being. As a group, Indochinese Americans arrived from war-torn countries where many had experienced various forms of trauma, poverty, and oppression. Their pre-migration experiences, and experiences in adjusting and adapting to the new life in the host society have influenced their mental health status and overall quality of life in various ways. This paper analyzes and synthesizes a wealth of multi-disciplinary research on the mental health of Indochinese Americans over the course of two decades. The content of the paper encompasses three important dimensions: measures, status, and treatment. Practical implications are presented and discussed around each dimension of mental health research
Neurophysiology currently occupies a leading role in the diagnosis and monitoring of patients affected by Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).
Electromyography (EMG) is very useful to determine the involvement of the lower motor neuron, while Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is the most appropriate technique for studying the upper motor neuron.
It is notoriously difficult to evaluate the bulbar district to examine the lower motor neuron and the upper motor neuron.
Here report a series of 55 patients affected by various clinical subtypes of ALS examined by MEP derived from the upper trapezius muscle (direct method).
The results show a great sensitivity in diagnosing the progressive bulbar palsy (PBP) clinical subtype, whereas a standard study with derivation from the lower limbs is more useful in the typical form of ALS.
Moreover, we show a more rigorous method of calculating central motor conduction time, in addition to an evaluation of the ratio between the amplitudes of the cortical and peripheral stimulus, obtained by the direct metho
Your Voice Matters: Assessing the Need for a Resource Center
With the transformation of the AGEP project initiative, identifying and preserving the knowledge created and making it available for re-use by other researchers and higher education institutions will require the development of a specific intervention.
The current trajectory for the Alliances materials will fail to reach the larger audiences needed to realize their full promise and the materials will be lost over time due to the absence of infrastructure to provide ongoing access
Saint-Jean-le-Vieux – Le Bourg
