Genomic Evolution of Two Acinetobacter baumannii Clinical Strains from ST-2 Clones Isolated in 2000 and 2010 (ST-2_clon_2000 and ST-2_clon_2010)
Acinetobacter baumannii is a successful nosocomial pathogen due to its ability to persist in hospital environments by acquiring
mobile elements such as transposons, plasmids, and phages. In this study, we compared two genomes of A. baumannii clinical
strains isolated in 2000 (ST-2_clon_2000) and 2010 (ST-2_clon_2010) from GenBank project PRJNA308422
A retrospective epydemiologic study was undertaken in a serie of 322 aged patients
with fracture of the upper extremity of the femur treated at the traumatology unit of
the «Hospital del Insalud» in Logroño beetween 1985 and 1988. Accidental falls with a minimum
traumatism were the main cause of the injury, with major incidence on 78 years old women,
the trochanteric fractures being more frequent than femoral week fractures. In our serie, 48%
of patients were affected by more than one previous disease to the fracture. Local post-operatire
complications (nail migration, local infection, haematoma) were found in 12%, and general
complications (urinary infection, pulmonary embolism, crust) in 19%. According to Nickens'
functional evaluation we found that 71% of patients were able to walk after surgery. The results
obtained in this community have been found similar to those reported by other authors
A dark energy multiverse
We present cosmic solutions corresponding to universes filled with dark and
phantom energy, all having a negative cosmological constant. All such solutions
contain infinite singularities, successively and equally distributed along
time, which can be either big bang/crunchs or big rips singularities.
Classicaly these solutions can be regarded as associated with multiverse
scenarios, being those corresponding to phantom energy that may describe the
current accelerating universe
Analysis of Microbial Community during Biofilm Development in an Anaerobic Wastewater Treatment Reactor.
The formation, structure, and biodiversity of a multispecies anaerobic biofilm inside an Upflow Anaerobic Sludge Bed (UASB) reactor fed with brewery wastewater was examined using complementary microbial ecology methods such us fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE), and cloning. The biofilm development can be roughly divided into three stages: an initial attachment phase (0–36 h) characterized by random adhesion of the cells to the surface; a consolidation phase (from 36 h to 2 weeks) defined by the appearance of microcolonies; and maturation phase (from 2 weeks to 2 months). During the consolidation period, proteobacteria with broad metabolic capabilities, mainly represented by members of alpha-Proteobacteria class (Oleomonas, Azospirillum), predominated. Beta-, gamma-, delta- (both syntrophobacteria and sulfate-reducing bacteria) and epsilon- (Arcobacter sp.) Proteobacteria were also noticeable. Archaea first appeared during the consolidation period. A Methanospirillum-like methanogen was detected after 36 h, and this was followed by the detection of Methanosarcina, after 4 days of biofilm development. The mature biofilm displayed a hill and valley topography with cells embedded in a matrix of exopolymers where the spatial distribution of the microorganisms became well-established. Compared to the earlier phases, the biodiversity had greatly increased. Although alpha-Proteobacteria remained as predominant, members of the phyla Firmicutes, Bacteroidete, and Thermotogae were also detected. Within the domain Archaea, the acetoclastic methanogen Methanosaeta concilii become dominant. This study provides insights on the trophic web and the shifts in population during biofilm development in an UASB reactor.post-print1274 K
retrospectively studied. The follow-up period was one year. There were displaced and non displaced
fractures, but in all of them was possible to achieved a satisfactory reduction either orthopaedically
or with a minimal osteosynthesis. Functional bellow-the-knee bracings was performed
according to Esteve. Different parameters such as motion, pain, walking ability and fracture stability
were clinically assesed. Fracture reduction and joint consolidation were radiographically
evaluated with weight-bearig in the affected leg. The age average was 53 years. Among fractures
predominated casual fall etiology (86%) and supination type. The duration of the no loading immovilization
period way 3-4 weeks. The functional casting period was 4 weeks and the readaptative
period was 2-3 weeks. Based on the clinical and radiological assessments, the results were
excellent in a 2 1 % of cases, good in 67%, fair in 10% and poor in 7%
Understanding the stigma of psychosis in ethnic minority groups: A qualitative exploration
Psychosis is a mental health difficulty which is widely stigmatized. The stigma of psychosis can lead to detrimental consequences and cause further distress. The aim of this study was to explore the experience of stigma and discrimination of psychosis from the perspective of service users from ethnic minority backgrounds. A total of 21 semistructured interviews were conducted with service users with psychosis from ethnic minority backgrounds examining their experiences of stigma from psychosis. Qualitative data were analyzed using thematic analysis. Five superordinate themes were identified, “social and cultural context of stigma,” “stigma is a family problem,” “stigma and discrimination within mental health services,” “intrapersonal impacts,” and “managing stigma within relationships.” Stigma is a significant concern for people with psychosis from an ethnic minority background. It is important that stigma and discrimination are appropriately assessed and considered within the care of people from ethnic minority backgrounds
The moderating role of prior experience in technological acceptance models for ubiquitous computing services in urban environments
Ubiquitous computing services constitute a new information technology that can be used in
thousands of potential applications and environments. Ubiquitous computing is also changing
the classic paradigm of information technology as it is forcing social and cultural changes.
Determining factors affecting the use of ubiquitous services is essential to correctly define the
characteristics of new value added services. However, this study investigates not only these
factors, but also the moderating effect of previous experience. Due to the technological nature
of ubiquitous services, previous experience alters the way in which potential users face these
services. Findings suggest that previous experience changes the way in which antecedent
relates to basic TAM constructs. The derived research models and empirical results also
provide valuable indicators for future research and managerial guidelines for the successful
adoption of ubiquitous computing servicesJunta de Andalucia. Consejería de Economía, Innovación, Ciencia y Empleo P12-SEJ-32
