    RF-powered UHF-RFID analog sensors platform

    Get PDF
An RF powered UHF-RFID passive sensors platform was realized using discrete components and printed antennas designed to resonate at 868 MHz, used both for energy harvesting and data transmission. The tests demonstrate the possibility for the system to operate autonomously within the reading range of a standard RFID reader, that acts both as the RF power source and the receiver of the data stored in the tag user memory. The microcontroller can be interfaced on the same substrate with a sensor made of polymeric materials, sensible to physical parameters or chemical agents. The dissemination of good practices in MLE requires a more rigorous definition of their characteristics, including criteria and indicators to measure their quality. This article – after reflecting on the meaning and function of identifying good MLE practices – presents a systematic framework of 35 indicators for good MLE activities in Italian elementary schools. These indicators are grouped according to five general criteria of quality: adequacy of the teaching methods; competence and involvement of the actors; structuring and coherence of the activity\u27s organization; awareness of the underlying MLE theories as well as their appropriateness; and originality of the project. The framework emerged from a four-level process, which is also presented in the article: Based on an initial review of features attributed to quality MLE in scientific and institutional literature, a preliminary draft of criteria was elaborated and submitted to scholars and experienced teachers, whose comments were sought in semi-structured interviews. This input fed into the final version of the framework, which may serve to support teacher trainings as well as the monitoring and (self-)evaluation of teachers\u27 MLE work

Reflections on Global Developments in Media Literacy Education: Bridging Theory and Practice

The field of media literacy education is maturing, as evidenced by the quality of presentations of research and practice shared at the 2010 World Summit on Children and Media in Karlstad. In this article, we offer our reflections on the opportunities and challenges faced by media literacy educators as we build our global community network, develop a shared theoretical framework that transcends culture and nationality, and return to consider foundational questions about the relationship between power and agency as new visions of digital literacy emerge as educators and creative media professionals explore the new capacities and limitations of the Internet and social media

Filippo Maria De Sanctis e l’educazione cinematografica. Marxismo, educazione permanente, contrastività

The works of Filippo Maria De Sanctis (1926-1989) on film education represent an original contribution in the landscape of media pedagogy, Marxist and other-wise, of the 1960s and 1970s. The article first outlines the main leans in screen education of the time, before it reconstructs De Sanctis’ contribution in this area, connecting it to the other core topic of his work (for which he is best remembered today): lifelong learning. In doing so, the article focuses on the method of post-film discussion, used in the context of both film clubs and schools. Criti-cally analyzing De Sanctis’ media pedagogy, the article reveals, beyond the orig-inality of the author, interesting insights regarding the historical evolution of the field, such as the problematic theorization of the inoculation/protectionist model, and the end of the orientation aimed at the aesthetic development of the human subject
