Calle Larios Master Plan

The renovation of three townhouses located in the Calle Larios inside of the historical core of the city of Malaga describes a procedure of surgical replacements, which can be applied like a master plan to all the houses of the Calle Larios. The reconfiguration of the courtyards and the interiors play a key role in this process. By the use of clearly structured courtyard-facades, the old but buzzing townhouses gain a calm nucleus

US Survey

U.S. Survey is a research programme that aims to identify large-scale, geographical, infrastructural interventions in which the overlay of the artificial over the natural is of prime relevance. It does so in the context of the U.S. for it is a rich territory for such a combination. Contrary to the case of the majority of urban sites and artificial landscapes of Eurasia or Africa, most of today consolidated American such sites (with the exception of the settlements of the Native American Indians) were in their origins devoid of a consolidated man-made tradition. For that reason we believe the U.S. is an ideal territory for the exploration of the overlay of geometrical constructions onto prominent and untamed geographical features

ITF Showroom

The historic industrial factory dating from 1935 had to be converted into a fashion centre for the spanish fashion label ITF, Iriarte Trading Fashion. Among the renovation of the existing structure the project included also a concept for exhibition spaces and a lighting concept. A big challenge was to house the demanded new functions within the existing spaces

By means of promoting very concrete interventions in the city of Berlin, the aim of the Berlin Studio is to critically review the on-going strategies of the city of Berlin as well as to anticipate its potential transformation. In the two previous semesters the Berlin Studio explored and reacted to the StEP Plan of the Senat regarding the decentralization of the city, as well as to the document “Perspectives for 2010, Pilot Projects” promoted by the Stadtforum. This semester we have selected four “open sites” which we believe give a good overview of the city

Caravaca Vera Cruz Museum

The transformation of a cloister building within the Caravaca castle into a museum of sacred art was achieved by the introduction of a wooden structure designed to reinforce the bearing walls and at the same time to hang the exhibits and lighting features. This was achieved without touching neither the historical wood coffered ceiling nor the ceramic pavement. As part of this new wooden structure a new staircase was introduced in order to allow the visitor to link the different periods of construction that the building assembles

Adenovirus infection reverses the antiviral state induced by human interferon

AbstractHeLa cells treated with human lymphoblastoid interferon do not synthesize poliovirus proteins. The antiviral state against poliovirus is reversed if cells are previously infected with adenovirus type 5. A late gene product seems to be involved in this reversion, since no effect is observed at early stages of infection or in the presence of aphidicolin
