When do two planted graphs have the same cotransversal matroid?
Cotransversal matroids are a family of matroids that arise from planted
graphs. We prove that two planted graphs give the same cotransversal matroid if
and only if they can be obtained from each other by a series of local moves.Comment: 12 pages, 7 figures; expository change
Entities as topic labels: Improving topic interpretability and evaluability combining Entity Linking and Labeled LDA
In order to create a corpus exploration method providing topics that are
easier to interpret than standard LDA topic models, here we propose combining
two techniques called Entity linking and Labeled LDA. Our method identifies in
an ontology a series of descriptive labels for each document in a corpus. Then
it generates a specific topic for each label. Having a direct relation between
topics and labels makes interpretation easier; using an ontology as background
knowledge limits label ambiguity. As our topics are described with a limited
number of clear-cut labels, they promote interpretability, and this may help
quantitative evaluation. We illustrate the potential of the approach by
applying it in order to define the most relevant topics addressed by each party
in the European Parliament's fifth mandate (1999-2004).Comment: in Proceedings of Digital Humanities 2016, Krako
A revision of the neotropical genus Anahi Martínez (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae: Melolonthinae) with the description of two new species
Generalized off-equilibrium fluctuation-dissipation relations in random Ising systems
We show that the numerical method based on the off-equilibrium
fluctuation-dissipation relation does work and is very useful and powerful in
the study of disordered systems which show a very slow dynamics. We have
verified that it gives the right information in the known cases (diluted
ferromagnets and random field Ising model far from the critical point) and we
used it to obtain more convincing results on the frozen phase of
finite-dimensional spin glasses. Moreover we used it to study the Griffiths
phase of the diluted and the random field Ising models.Comment: 20 pages, 10 figures, uses epsfig.sty. Partially presented at

Deep adaptative spectral zoom for improved remote heart rate estimation
Recent advances in remote heart rate measurement, motivated by data-driven
approaches, have notably enhanced accuracy. However, these improvements
primarily focus on recovering the rPPG signal, overlooking the implicit
challenges of estimating the heart rate (HR) from the derived signal. While
many methods employ the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) for HR estimation, the
performance of the FFT is inherently affected by a limited frequency
resolution. In contrast, the Chirp-Z Transform (CZT), a generalization form of
FFT, can refine the spectrum to the narrow-band range of interest for heart
rate, providing improved frequential resolution and, consequently, more
accurate estimation. This paper presents the advantages of employing the CZT
for remote HR estimation and introduces a novel data-driven adaptive CZT
estimator. The objective of our proposed model is to tailor the CZT to match
the characteristics of each specific dataset sensor, facilitating a more
optimal and accurate estimation of HR from the rPPG signal without compromising
generalization across diverse datasets. This is achieved through a Sparse
Matrix Optimization (SMO). We validate the effectiveness of our model through
exhaustive evaluations on three publicly available datasets UCLA-rPPG, PURE,
and UBFC-rPPG employing both intra- and cross-database performance metrics. The
results reveal outstanding heart rate estimation capabilities, establishing the
proposed approach as a robust and versatile estimator for any rPPG method
The materials have been prepared by reaction between polyfunctional thiols and isocyanates, both under acidic and basic conditions. In addition, the applications of these materials as recyclable and self-healing materials and as matrix composite have been studied. In search of a greater sustainability, the catalytic activity of alternatives to tin (IV) compounds, the most widely used at an industrial level, has been studied. Different thiols have also been prepared from biomass derivatives, and their role as a substitute for thiols derived from fossil fuels has been studied
