Risk analysis (RA) contains several methodologies that object to ensure the protection and safety of occupational stakeholders. Multi attribute decision-making (MADM) is one of the most important RA methodologies that is applied to several areas from manufacturing to information technology. With the widespread use of computer networks and the Internet, information security has become very important. Information security is vital as institutions are mostly dependent on information, technology, and systems. This requires a comprehensive and effective implementation of information security RA. Analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) are commonly used MADM methods and recently used for RA. In this study, a new RA methodology is proposed based on AHP-TOPSIS integration extended with Pythagorean fuzzy sets. AHP strengthened by interval-valued Pythagorean fuzzy numbers is used to weigh risk parameters with expert judgment. Then, TOPSIS with Pythagorean fuzzy numbers is used to prioritize previously identified risks. A comparison of the proposed approach with three approaches (classical RA method, Pythagorean fuzzy VIKOR and Pythagorean fuzzy MOORA) is also provided. To illustrate the feasibility and practicality of the proposed approach, a case study for information security RA in corrugated cardboard sector is executed. No sponso

A comparative outline for quantifying risk ratings in occupational health and safety risk assessment

    Get PDF
The concept of risk assessment has been introduced as an examination of safety in the workplace to enable assessments as to whether sufficient precautions have been taken or if more should be done to prevent potential harm. Hazardous industries have faced serious fatalities related to work, workplaces, and workers as a consequence of their high-risk processes. Therefore, in this work, a novel and comparative methodology for quantifying risk ratings in occupational health and safety risk assessment is proposed. A 5 x 5 risk matrix is initially determined, and the fuzzy technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution (FTOPSIS) method is then applied to rank identified hazards. As a novelty to the knowledge, two parameters of the 5 x 5 matrix method, likelihood and severity, are subjectively assessed by occupational health and safety experts, and then importance levels for these parameters are determined using the Pythagorean fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (PFAHP). In the proposed approach, analysts use linguistic terms and Pythagorean fuzzy sets, which provide greater independence in their evaluations. An outline that enables comparison of the results of this study with the circumcenter of centroids method and the fuzzy AHP-fuzzy VIKOR integrated method in quantifying risk ratings is also provided. In order to present the practicality of this work, a case study in an underground copper and zinc mine is carried out. (C) 2018 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved. No sponso

    Get PDF
Chua predicted the existence of the fundamental circuit element, which provides the linkage of flux (ϕ) and charge (q). The new circuit element that is called memristor (memory + resistor) was demonstrated by Hewlett Packard (HP) researchers in 2008. Researchers focused on memristor fabrication, modeling, and its application with other circuit elements. Researchers could not find the commercially memristor devices in the market because of some fabrication difficulties. For this reason, researchers focused on the memristor modeling to analyze its characteristics with other circuit elements. This chapter presents a review of the general information of memristor and its device parameters. The chapter is continued with the details of memristor mathematical and SPICE models and memristor emulators based on the other circuit elements

This work was supported by grants from Cankiri Karatekin University and the State Planning Organization, Turkey (Project No: 2010K120720). The authors would also like to thank Turkish Republic Ministry of Forestry and Water Affairs, General Directorate of Nature Protection and National Parks for permission to collect the mosses Dicranum scoparium and Hypnum cupressiforme from Ilgaz Mountain National Park. Finally, the authors thank Bianka Martinez for grammatical revision of the manuscript. The composition of fatty acids and insecticidal effects was performed for the Turkish mosses Dicranum scoparium, Hypnum cupressiforme, Polytrichastrum formosum, Homalothecium lutescens and the Turkish liverwort Conocephalum conicum. All structures were determined by means of gas chromatography and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry techniques. The determination of fatty acids was done using a simple and mild method that utilized different solvent extractions ranging from nonpolar to polar solvents (hexane, dichloromethane, chloroform, ethyl acetate and methanol, respectively), and the samples were powdered with and without liquid nitrogen. The correlations between the saturated and unsaturated fatty acid contents depending on the solvent polarity and their crushing process by liquid nitrogen were observed. The insecticidal activity of the bryophytes was analyzed by using the methanol, hexane and esterified methanol extracts. The hexane extracts of Polytrichastrum formosum showed the highest insecticidal activity (70.33%) against Sitophilus granarius. Contact toxicity activities of lauric, myristic and palmitic acids besides single dose studies of the solvent extracts were carried out. The highest mortality rate (53.34%) was obtained from the myristic acid among the tested pure fatty acids. The activities of palmitic and lauric acids were 17.75% and 4.32%, respectively

Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate data on early diagnosis and therapeutic management of rudimentary hornpregnancy (RHP).Material and methods: Patients diagnosed with RHP at a tertiary center between for two periods of 2008–2012 and2013–2018 were analysed retrospectively. We obtained information of patients from hospital electronic archive registrationsystem. Data on demographic characteristics, clinical presentation, gestational age at presentation, presenting symptoms, diagnostic methods, and therapeutic management were noted and analysed by descriptive statistical method. Demographicdatas, the complaint of patient’s admission to hospital, history of cesarean section, preliminary diagnosis and intraoperativediagnosis were compared between periods of 2008–2012 and 2013–2018.Results: A total of 14 RHP patients were included. Eight (57.1%) of these patients were diagnosed between 2008–2012 (Group1), whereas six patients (42.9%) were diagnosed between 2013–2018 (Group 2). Rudimentary horn was non-communicatingin 13 patients (92.8%). Communicated form was observed in 1 patient in group 1. RHP was diagnosed on the left side in ninepatients (64.2%). Six of these patients were observed in group 1 and 3 were in group 2. The pre-rupture diagnosis was madein 10 (71.4%) patients. Six (100%) of 10 patients were in group 2. In addition, in group 1, four patients (50%) experiencedintraoperative RHP rupture. RHP was diagnosed before rupture in 2 (33.3%) patients in group 2.Conclusions: It is an indication of advanced ultrasonographic technology as well as increased carefulness on the physicianside and raised alertness on the patient side that today both RHP and preoperative rupture of RHP are less frequent.Still, further awareness is required among physicians of the necessity of excision of a rudimentary horn that is detectedat the time of C-section

Purpose: By analyzing long-term laboratory data, we aim to evaluate the relationship between the TyG and Homeostatic Model Assessment for Insulin Resistance (HOMA-IR) in the adult population with isolated impaired fasting glucose (IFG), and also to determine the cut off value of The triglyceride (TG) to glucose index (TyG) to estimate the IR in our population. Materials and Methods: In this study, data were evaluated retrospectively from medical records. Fasting glucose, lipid panel [Total cholesterol, TG, High-density lipoprotein (HDL), Low-density lipoprotein (LDL)] and insulin levels were analyzed with commercially reagents. (Roche Cobas C701, Roche Diagnostic, Germany). High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) method was used for hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) (Lifotronic H9, Lifotrophic Technology, China). TyG, HOMA-IR, and TG/HDLcholesterol were calculated. IR was defined as HOMA-IR ≥2.5. Results: A total of 440 subject, (controls: 230 and IFG:210), were included in our study. The average age of the subjects was 42.5±12.0 years and 44.7±10.7 years for IFG and control, respectively. Glucose, total cholesterol, TG, LDL-cholesterol, insulin, HbA1c, TG/HDL-cholesterol, HOMA-IR, and TyG were significantly higher in the IFG group (p<0.001). There was a weak but significant correlation between HOMA-IR and the TyG (r=0.210, p=0.009). In the ROC analysis, the AUC for HOMA-IR and the TyG, respectively was 0.867 (95% CI, 0.833-0.900, p<0.001) and 0.708 (95% CI, 0.659-0.758, p<0.001). Conclusions: In our study, the TyG is proposed as a relatively accurate, simple, easily accessible, and low-cost marker for IR evaluation with IFG patients. However, population-based studies with higher patient participation are needed for future studies

Objectives: Splenectomy is performed in order to provide the treatment in the patients with severe idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura, refractory to medical treatment. In this study, we aimed to investigate the postoperatif and longterm outcomes in the patients who underwent splenectomy with the diagnosis of idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura.Materials and Methods: Between 2001-2010 at Dicle University Medical Faculty, General Surgery Department, a retrospective review of the 109 patients who had undergone splenectomy for ITP was reviewed. Age, gender, presence of accessory spleens and location, duration of the operation, number of preoperative platelet tranfusion, number of preoperative and postoperative blood transfusion, length of hospital stay, long-term outcomes, morbidity and mortality were recorded. Results: The mean age was 37.10 ± 16.62 (16-72), and there were 88 (80.7%) female and 21 (19.3%) male patients. The mean operation time was 44.87 ± 10:32 (30-120) minutes. The average postoperative blood and preoperative platelet transfusion were 1.63 ± 0.85 (0-3) and 2.01 ± 0.71 (1-3) units, respectively. The accessory spleens were encountered in 20 (18.3%) patients at the ultrasonographic examination. And also the accessory spleens were encountered in 23 (21.1%) patients during operation and confirmed with histopathologic examination. The most common localization of accessory spleens were splenic hilus. The postoperative complications were occurred in 16 patients (14.7%) and the most complication was atelectasia. The mean length of hospital stay was 4:56 ± 2:45 (2-12) days. Patients were followed for an average of 28 (9-48) months. At the follow-up period, 1 (0.9 %) patient had died. Conclusion: Splenectomy can be performed safely in the treatment of the patients with idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura unresponsive to medical treatment. Long-term good results can be obtained with splenectomy in these patients. The accessory spleens should not be overlooked to prevent recurrences
