Background: The miR Let-7g expression has been investigated in several cancers but no report is available on cervical cancer patients. The aim of this study was to evaluate the association between miR Let-7g expression and the risk of cervical cancer in human papillomavirus (HPV)-infected patients. Materials and Methods: In this case-control study, 20 paraffin-embedded tissue samples were collected from HPV-infected cervical cancer patients, 20 samples from patients with no infection and 20 healthy women referred to the Mirzakochak Khan Jangali Hospital in Tehran in 2015. Then, the miR Let-7g gene expression was measured by the real-time polymerase chain reaction method. Results: The results showed that miR Let-7g expression was decreased in HPV-infected and non-infected cervical cancer patients compared to the control group (P=0.0001and P=0.03, respectively). There was a significant decrease in miR Let-7g expression in HPV-infected patients compared to non-infected ones (P=0.0001). Also, a positive correlation was observed between decreased miR Let-7g expression and the stage of the disease, but no significant correlation was found between age of the patients and the level of gene expression in the studied population. Conclusion: According to the results of the present study, the miR Let-7g expression in cervical cancer patients is significantly decreased compared to the control group. Therefore, evaluation of the microRNA expression can be used as a valuable prognostic marker for early diagnosis of cervical cancer

AbstractObjectiveTo develop a gold nanoparticles complex conjugated with interferon-gamma (IFN-γ) and methionine along with application of hyperthermia using near-infrared laser beams for the treatment of cancer cells.MethodsGold nanorods (10 nm) were conjugated with IFN-γ and methionine using carbodiimide family and characterized after purification by dialysis bags. Breast cancer cells were cultured and incubated with gold nanorods at different concentrations followed by irradiation with near-infrared laser beam. Samples were then evaluated for their viability in order to determine the effect of treatment and variables by MTT assy.ResultsZetasizer results confirmed the conjugation of gold nanorods with methionine and IFN-γ. The median percentage of cell viability in 0.30 μg/mL concentration of gold nanorods was 82%. The cell viability reached to 85% at the same concentration of gold nanorods, which existed in the assayed complex. The results of MTT assay showed that the 0.60 μg/mL concentration of gold nanoparticles complex was toxic on tumor cells (P < 0.05). After exposure to hyperthermia, the viability of cells at 6 min decreased to 77% in 0.30 μg/mL concentration of gold nanorods complex.ConclusionsThe size and concentration of gold nanorods was not cytotoxic. However, their presence during irradiation near-infrared laser increased the number of dead cells during the treatment of cells

Evolution of the Concept of Public Morality and Principles of its criminalization: Philosophical and Human Rights Approaches

    Get PDF
AbstractMany codes advocating public morals have been challenged during recent years. The decriminalization of immoral acts, as one of the most important aspects of modern criminal law, has been rooted in the arguments of scholars such as John Stuart Mill and Joel Feinberg on the state intervention in individual liberties. These scholars by developing freedom restricting principles have advocated a kind of minimalist criminalization in the sphere of public morality. Moreover, the international human rights law system, in an effort to balance cultural diversity and universal values, has endorsed public morality as one of the permissible restrictions on unrestricted civil-political liberties. In fact, following developments in the performance of governments in the field of public morality, the international human rights system, by providing a progressive interpretation of the principles governing criminalization, reject the legal moralism has attempted to defend a kind of rights-oriented criminalization that protects the rights and freedoms of vulnerable people

    Get PDF
The growth of the Internet, social networks and e-commerce websites provide a platform for users to express their opinions. In recent years, many users have expressed their positive or negative opinions about food, service, and quality and restaurant atmosphere online. These comments are very important for the decision of other users as well as restaurants to maintain quality, product development and their brand. Sentiment analysis is a natural language processing approach and allows systematic analysis of users' opinions. Due to the importance of this issue, the purpose of this study is to present a model for analyzing the sentiment of TripAdvisor's comments about Iranian restaurants. In this research, we propose an aspect-based sentiment analysis based on a deep learning algorithm which is the standard long short-term memory neural network to extract users' sentiments about restaurants. To teach the model, 4000 comments were labeled according to four aspects in three classes of not related, positive and negative, and the study steps were done based on Crisp methodology. Accuracy for food, service, value and atmosphere were 82%, 86%, 87% and 81%, respectively. These results indicate the efficiency and acceptable performance of the model for aspect-based sentiment analysis of restaurants. Furthermore, food and atmosphere are the most important aspects for the customers of Iranian restaurants, respectively. Restaurant owners can use the developed model to gain a competitive advantage and find their strengths and weaknesses

Introduction: Since late diagnosis of diabetes or missing it during pregnancy can leave severe maternal and fetal complications, and on the other hand information on the prevalence and risk factors of diabetes in pregnancy in Iran is limited, this study aimed to determine the prevalence and risk factors of gestational diabetes in Shahdad/ Kerman/ Iran. Methods: This cross-sectional, descriptive-analytical study was performed on 160 post partum women who had prenatal care files in health care center of Shahdad city from 2014 to2015. Subjects were selected through census sampling and their information was extracted from their files. Data were analyzed through SPSS version 16 and using t-test, chi-square, Fisher's exact test and logistic regression. Results: The prevalence of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) in the studied women was 12.5 percent. Gestational diabetes showed significant relationships with history of stillbirth (P=0.04), family history of diabetes (P<0.0001) and body mass index (0.003). In studying pregnancy outcomes, no relationship was found between the type of delivery and GDM (P=0.6), but the weight was significantly higher in infants of diabetic mothers (P=0.01). Conclusion: The prevalence of gestational diabetes is high in the region of Shahdad/ Kerman and history of stillbirth has the highest correlation with GDM. Therefore, screening of gestational diabetes and its risk factors in this community seems necessary.      Introduction: In patients with renal disorders, a sudden decrease in glomerular filtration rate (GFR) would not result in rapid rise concentrations of Creatinine. The present study aimed to assess diagnostic accuracy of serum Cystatin C as an appropriate alternative to serum Creatinine for early detection of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD).Materials and Methods: In this study, 72 patients, 48 female and 24 male were selected. Serum Cystatin C and serum Creatinine were assayed, using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and routine methods, respectively. Glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) was estimated by Cockcroft and Gault formula. Receiver operating characteristics (ROC) analysis was adopted to evaluate diagnostic accuracy of serum Cystatin C and serum Creatinine. Results: Using Pearson's Correlation Coefficient analysis among Creatinine, Cystatin C and eGFR showed Serum Cystatin C was better than Creatinine. The sensitivity, specificity and AUC for Serum Cystatin C were 0.88, 0.70 and 0.85, and for Serum Creatinine, they  were 0.60, 0.80 and 0.68 respectively. Conclusion: Our results showed that in early stages of CKD, Cystatin C is a more accurate biomarker for kidney function than Creatinine

    Get PDF
Aim and Background: Remote Ischemic Preconditioning introduces brief episodes of ischemia and reperfusion which reduces long term ischemia in orthopaedic surgery. The aim of this study was to evaluate hemodynamic and respiratory effects of remote ischemic preconditioning in lower extremity orthopaedic surgeries. Methods: In this clinical trial 40 patients scheduled for lower extremity surgery with pneumatic tourniquet were randomly allocated to remote ischemic preconditioning (RIP group, n=20) and control group (n=19). Patients in RIP group received three “5 minutes” cycles of ischemia, alternating with 5 minutes of reperfusion before extended use of tourniquet. Hemodynamic variables prior to inflation of tourniquet, every 30 minutes during the surgery and 10 minutes after tourniquet deflation and also arterial blood gas sample prior to and after surgery were recorded and compared between groups. Results: During operation blood pressure dropped in the RIP group and variations in heart rate, respiratory rate and pulse oximeter measurements after surgical tourniquet release were not significantly different between two groups. Changes in blood gas parameters were significantly less pronounced in the RIP group. Conclusion: Remote ischemic preconditioning may not attenuate most of the adverse effects of surgical tourniquet deflation including variations in heart rate, respiratory rate and arterial oxygen saturation as well as blood pressure drops. However, RIP may reduce increases in systolic blood pressure and acidosis following tourniquet application.Key Words: Remote Ischemic Preconditioning; Orthopedic, surgery, blood pressure, tourniquet, oxygenatio
