Background and Aim : Optimal bond strength between soft liners and denture base resin is an important requirement for application of these materials. This study aimed to determine the effect of 2.5% sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) and Corega denture cleanser solutions on tensile bond strength of Acropars, Molloplast-B, GC soft liner and Mollosil soft liners to denture base resin .   Materials and Methods : In this in-vitro experimental study, 30 specimens of each of the 4 soft liners according to the manufacturer’s instructions were processed between two blocks of polymethyl methacrylate. Specimens were divided into 3 groups and after immersion in 2.5% sodium hypochlorite and Corega solutions were subjected to tensile bond strength testing using Universal Testing Machine (Zwick Roell, Z50, Germany) with a crosshead speed of 5 mm/min. Data were analyzed with two-way ANOVA, Tamhane’s post hoc test and Fisher’s exact test .   Results : The mean tensile bond strength of all three testing positions was 3.27 ± 1.04, 0.93 ± 0.35, 0.71 ± 0.31 and 0.28 ± 0.11 MPa for Acropars, Molloplast-B, GC soft liner and Mollosil, respectively. Type of soft liner material had a significant effect on the tensile bond strength of soft liner to denture base resin (P<0.0001) but type of cleansing solution had no significant influence on tensile bond strength of specimens .   Conclusion : The 2.5% sodium hypochlorite and Corega solutions had no significant effect on tensile bond strength of soft liners to denture base

The Effect of Using Birth Ball on Maternal and Neonatal Outcomes: A Randomized Clinical Trial

Introduction: Using exercise with birth ball during labor leads to labor pain relief and improvement in the labor process, and is a very important non-medication method, looking into the chemical medications side-effects on mother and fetus, plus being affordable. This study aimed to investigate the effects of using birth ball on maternal and neonatal outcomes. Methods: In this clinical trial, 100 primiparous women, 45-18 years old, were admitted to Fatemiyeh hospital in 2015, and were randomly divided into two groups of 50 tests and controls. The data collection instrument was questionnaire. In the duration of labor, the need for oxytocin, Apgar score after the delivery, and birth weight were compared between the two groups. Results: The mean duration of labor was significantly lower in the intervention group compared with the control group (P < 0.05). The need for oxytocin, Apgar score, birth weight and mode of delivery were not significantly different between the two groups. Conclusions: Performing exercise with birth ball during labor can decrease the active phase of labor, with no harmful consequences on the Apgar score; so, it can be used as a non-medication treatment to reduce labor pain and the duration of delivery

Application of Multiplex PCR for Detection and Differentiation of Entamoeba histolytica, Entamoeba dispar and Entamoeba moshkovskii

Background: Entamoeba moshkovskii and E. dispar are impossible to differentiate microscopically from the pathogenic species E. histolytica. Multiplex polymerase chain reaction (Multiplex PCR) is a widespread molecular biology technique for amplification of multiple targets in a single PCR experiment. Methods: For detection and differentiation of the three-microscopy indistinguishable Entamoeba species in human, multiplex PCR assay using different DNA extraction methods was studied. A conserved forward primer was derived from the middle of the small-subunit rRNA gene, and reverse primers were designed from signature sequences specific to each of these three Entamoeba species. Results: A 166-bp PCR product with E. histolytica DNA, a 580-bp product with E. moshkovskii DNA and a 752-bp product with E. dispar DNA were generated in a single-round and multiplex PCR reaction. Conclusion: We recommend this PCR assay as an accurate, rapid, and effective diagnostic method for the detection and discrimination of these three Entamoeba species in both routine diagnosis of amoebiasis and epidemiological surveys
