    The Casimir Effect in Spheroidal Geometries

    We study the zero point energy of massless scalar and vector fields subject to spheroidal boundary conditions. For massless scalar fields and small ellipticity the zero-point energy can be found using both zeta function and Green's function methods. The result agrees with the conjecture that the zero point energy for a boundary remains constant under small deformations of the boundary that preserve volume (the boundary deformation conjecture), formulated in the case of an elliptic-cylindrical boundary. In the case of massless vector fields, an exact solution is not possible. We show that a zonal approximation disagrees with the result of the boundary deformation conjecture. Applying our results to the MIT bag model, we find that the zero point energy of the bag should stabilize the bag against deformations from a spherical shape.Comment: 24 pages, 3 figures. One of the main discussions is concerned with how a project’s success is evaluated and what factors lead to achieving this success. Traditionally project success has been measured at the point where the project outputs are handed over, after the close out phase. Recently, questions have been raised in the literature as to whether we should be evaluating project success beyond the close out phase, to better account for organizational and societal outcomes. However, not much has been published about how the long term impacts and outcomes are measured. This is of particular concern in megaprojects as they often attract a high level of public attention and political interest, and have both direct and indirect impacts on the community, environment, and national budgets. In this paper the authors review success factors and criteria that are applicable to projects in general and megaprojects in particular. They identify the significance of evaluating outcomes and impact and propose an ex-post project evaluation megaprojects

    Strategi Kampanye Calon Legislatif Partai Kebangkitan Bangsa (Pkb) Dapil Satu Kabupaten Minahasa Utara Tahun 2014

    Sepanjang sejarah, Indonesia telah menyelenggarakan 11 kali pemilihan umum (Pemilu), yaitu pada tahun 1955, 1971, 1977, 1982, 1987, 1992, 1997, 1999, 2004, 2009 dan 2014. Menjelang pemilu 2014, dinamika politik di Indonesia semakin hari semakin tinggi, mengingat jadwal pemilihan umum 2014 tinggal sesaat lagi. Tidak hanya calon Presiden dan Wakil Presiden yang turut meramaikan pesta politik tersebut, tetapi juga para calon legislative (Caleg). Sebagai partai senior PKB terdiri dari berbagai golongan dan diharapkan bersinergi dalam membesarkan PKB. Caleg PKB juga senantiasa menggunkan citra dirinya dalam dunia poltik sendiri melalui Visi dan Misi agar masyarakat mau dan turut memberikan dukungan suara terhadap PKB. Dengan menggunakan strategi pendekatan yaitu, menggunakan media luar ruang dapat mempermudah strategi pengenalan diri caleg PKB agar lebih dikenal masyarakat dan caleg PKB juga mengkomunikasikan diri mereka melalui orang-orang atau kelompok yang berpengaruh sehingga PKB dapat memperoleh dukungan yang maksimal dan dapat mencapai tujuan partai yaitu menambah satu kuota kursi di DPRD Kabupaten Minahasa Utara karena selama dua periode PKB menduduki kursi DPRD, PKB hanya menduduki satu kursi saja. Karena perolehan suara yang di peroleh PKB dalam pemilu tahun 2014 belum mampu menambah satu kursi di DPRD Minahasa utara untuk dapil satu. Dengan menggunakan analisis SWOT yaitu kekuatan (strenght), kelemahan (weakness), peluang (opportunities) bahkan ancaman (threats) dalam menjalankan strategi kampanye pemenangan politiknya. Hal tersebut membuat penulis tertarik untuk meneliti “strategi kampanye calon legislatif partai kebangkitan bangsa (PKB) dapil satu kabupaten minahasa utara tahun 2014”. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan subyek penelitiannya adalah timsukses kampanye, tokoh masyarakat, dan tokoh pemuda, sedangkan obyek penelitiannya adalah rancangan strategi kampanye calon legislatif partai kebangkitan bangsa (PKB). Informan penelitian dipilih secara purposive. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa strategi kampanye calon legislatif partai kebangkitan bangsa (PKB) dapil satu kabupaten minahasa utara tahun 2014 belum bisa mencapai target partai, yaitu menambah satu kuota kursi di kabupaten minahasa utara untuk PKB

    Four Fermion Processes at Future e+ee^+e^- Colliders as a Probe of New Resonant Structures

    Possible oblique effects from vector particles that are strongly coupled to the known gauge bosons are calculated for the case of final hadronic states produced at future e+ee^+e^- colliders, using a formalism that was recently proposed and that exploits the information and the constraints provided by LEP 1 results. Combining the hadronic channels with the previously analysed leptonic ones we derive improved limits for the masses of the resonances that,in technicolour-like cases, would range from one to two TeV for a 500 GeV linear collider, depending on the assumed theoretical constraints.Comment: 11 pages, postscript file of 3 figures appended at the end of the latex file PM/93-34 UTS-DFT-93-2

    Kemampuan Fitoremediasi Salvinia Molesta D. S. Mitchell pada Beberapa Konsentrasi Limbah Cair Minyak Bumi

    Penelitian tentang Kemampuan Fitoremediasi Salvinia molesta D.S. Mitchell pada Bebera-pa Konsentrasi Limbah Cair Minyak Bumi telah dilaksanakan pada Mei sampai Juni 2011. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui kemampuan fitoremediasi S. molesta pada beberapa konsentrasi limbah cair minyak bumi dengan mengukur TPH (Total Petroleum Hidrokarbon), pH dan berat basah. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) dengan perlakuan konsentrasi limbah 0%, 15%, 30%, 45%, 60% dan 75%, dan masing-masing perlakuan diulang 4 kali. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa S. molesta mampu menurunkan TPH pada tiap perlakuan konsentrasi limbah cair minyak bumi, dengan penurunan TPH tertinggi diperoleh pada konsentrasi limbah 75%, yaitu sebesar 1317 ppm. Pada fitoremediasi limbah cair minyak bumi menggunakan S. molesta terjadi penurunan pH yang stabil. Pertumbuhan S. molesta yang tepat pada fitoremediasi limbah cair minyak bumi diperoleh pada konsentrasi limbah 60%, dengan per-tambahan berat basah selama 30 hari sebesar 68,85 g. Dari hasil yang diperoleh, dapat disimpul-kan bahwa konsentrasi limbah cair minyak bumi yang tepat untuk proses fitoremediasi dan per-tumbuhan S. molesta diperoleh pada konsentrasi limbah 60%, dengan penurunan TPH 1157 ppm

    Anyons in 1+1 Dimensions

    The possibility of excitations with fractional spin and statististics in 1+11+1 dimensions is explored. The configuration space of a two-particle system is the half-line. This makes the Hamiltonian self-adjoint for a family of boundary conditions parametrized by one real number γ\gamma. The limit γ0,(\gamma \rightarrow 0, (\infty) reproduces the propagator of non-relativistic particles whose wavefunctions are even (odd) under particle exchange. A relativistic ansatz is also proposed which reproduces the correct Polyakov spin factor for the spinning particle in 1+11+1 dimensions. These checks support validity of the interpretation of γ\gamma as a parameter related to the ``spin'' that interpolates continuously between bosons (γ=0\gamma =0) and fermions (γ=\gamma =\infty). Our approach can thus be useful for obtaining the propagator for one-dimensional anyons.Comment: 13p. latex (Revtex), no figures
