This study examines the mechanism to build organizational capabilities in the firm. The purpose is to rethink the RBV (Resource Based View of the firm) and to provide a framework for analyzing cases. After reviewing the previous RBV studies, I suggest an original analytical framework which is based on three-step process: exploration, accumulation, and exploitation. Furthermore, I classify into four types to clarify the concept of organizational capabilities: corresponding capability, adapting capability, deepening capability, and creating capability. To put a concrete image of the previous discussion, I analyze a case in accordance with reality. This paper examines a Maruti-Suzuki project: a joint venture between Suzuki and the Indian government. I explain Maruti\u27s organizational capabilities by using an analytical framework. In the phase of exploring the organizational capabilities, I examine how it gains Indian market. In the phase of accumulating the organizational capabilities, I focus on the job training for the local human resources. In the phase of exploiting the organizational capabilities, I consider that Suzuki\u27s manufacturing small-car ability and sale network. Also, I discuss the problems caused under this environment. As a result, it is confirmed that a good combination between the manufacturing small-car ability and local employees making corporate reliability affects the Maruti\u27s competitive advantage. By examining Maruti, it is indicated the linkage among the aggressive corporate behavior, the strategic entrepreneur and mechanism to build organizational capabilities is important. In the future, we need to research more about personal dimension of human behavior

Exploiting the potential of meroterpenoid cyclases to expand the chemical space of fungal meroterpenoids

Fungal meroterpenoids are a diverse group of hybrid natural products with impressive structural complexity and high potential as drug candidates. In this work, we evaluate the promiscuity of the early structure diversity-generating step in fungal meroterpenoid biosynthetic pathways: the multibond-forming polyene cyclizations catalyzed by the yet poorly understood family of fungal meroterpenoid cyclases. In total, 12 unnatural meroterpenoids were accessed chemoenzymatically using synthetic substrates. Their complex structures were determined by 2D NMR studies as well as crystalline-sponge-based X-ray diffraction analyses. The results obtained revealed a high degree of enzyme promiscuity and experimental results, together with quantum chemical calculations provided a deeper insight into the catalytic activity of this new family of non-canonical terpene cyclases. The knowledge obtained paves the way to design and engineer artificial pathways towards second generation meroterpenoids with valuable bioactivities based on combinatorial biosynthetic strategies.Accepted manuscrip

Cutoff Values of Serum IgG4 and Histopathological IgG4+ Plasma Cells for Diagnosis of Patients with IgG4-Related Disease

IgG4-related disease is a new disease classification established in Japan in the 21st century. Patients with IgG4-related disease display hyper-IgG4-gammaglobulinemia, massive infiltration of IgG4+ plasma cells into tissue, and good response to glucocorticoids. Since IgG4 overexpression is also observed in other disorders, it is necessary to diagnose IgG4-related disease carefully and correctly. We therefore sought to determine cutoff values for serum IgG4 and IgG4/IgG and for IgG4+/IgG+ plasma cells in tissue diagnostic of IgG4-related disease. Patients and Methods. We retrospectively analyzed serum IgG4 concentrations and IgG4/IgG ratio and IgG4+/IgG+ plasma cell ratio in tissues of 132 patients with IgG4-related disease and 48 patients with other disorders. Result. Serum IgG4 >135  mg/dl demonstrated a sensitivity of 97.0% and a specificity of 79.6% in diagnosing IgG4-related disease, and serum IgG4/IgG ratios >8% had a sensitivity and specificity of 95.5% and 87.5%, respectively. IgG4+cell/IgG+ cell ratio in tissues >40% had a sensitivity and specificity of 94.4% and 85.7%, respectively. However, the number of IgG4+ cells was reduced in severely fibrotic parts of tissues. Conclusion. Although a recent unanimous consensus of all relevant researchers in Japan recently established the diagnostic criteria for IgG4-related disease, findings such as ours indicate that further discussion is needed

Representatives from Japanese academic libraries have participated in the 12th (Nashville), 14th (La Joya), and 15th (New Orleans), and now the 16th (Boston) North American ICOLC meetings, as well as the 6th European Conference (Barcelona). This time debates focused on bibliographic information databases, preservation and management of digital contents, collection analysis of individual libraries, shared storage of print materials and issues relating to storage facilities, the significance of measuring library user needs and satisfaction. Participants also discussed how the movement towards open access affects the scholarly material environment, particularly that of e-journals. These issues are summarized in this report
