Exploratory structural assessment in craniocervical dystonia: global and differential analyses
FAPESP - FUNDAÇÃO DE AMPARO À PESQUISA DO ESTADO DE SÃO PAULOOur goal was to investigate the cortical thickness and subcortical volume in subjects with craniocervical dystonia and its subgroups. The new nitric oxide donor cyclohexane nitrate induces vasorelaxation, hypotension, and antihypertensive effects via NO/cGMP/PKG pathway
We investigated the cardiovascular effects induced by the nitric oxide donor Cyclohexane Nitrate (HEX). Vasodilatation, NO release and the effects of acute or sub-chronic treatment with HEX on cardiovascular parameters were evaluated. HEX induced endothelium-independent vasodilatation (Maximum effect- [efficacy, ME] = 100.4±4.1%; potency [pD2] = 5.1±0.1). Relaxation was attenuated by scavenging nitric oxide (ME = 44.9±9.4% vs. 100.4±4.1%) or by inhibiting the soluble guanylyl cyclase (ME = 38.5±9.7% vs. 100.4±4.1%). In addition, pD2 was decreased after non-selective blockade of K+ channels (pD2 = 3.6±0.1 vs. 5.1±0.1) or by inhibiting KATP channels (pD2 = 4.3±0.1 vs. 5.1±0.1). HEX increased NO levels in mesenteric arteries (33.2±2.3 au vs. 10.7±0.2 au, p<0.0001). Intravenous acute administration of HEX (1-20 mg/kg) induced hypotension and bradycardia in normotensive and hypertensive rats. Furthermore, starting at six weeks after the induction of 2K1C hypertension, oral treatment with the HEX (10 mg/Kg/day) for seven days reduced blood pressure in hypertensive animals (134±6 vs 170±4 mmHg, respectively). Our data demonstrate that HEX is a NO donor able to produce vasodilatation via NO/cGMP/PKG pathway and activation of the ATP-sensitive K+ channels. Furthermore, HEX acutely reduces blood pressure and heart rate as well as produces antihypertensive effect in renovascular hypertensive rats
Conditional large Fock state preparation and field state reconstruction in Cavity QED
We propose a scheme for producing large Fock states in Cavity QED via the
implementation of a highly selective atom-field interaction. It is based on
Raman excitation of a three-level atom by a classical field and a quantized
field mode. Selectivity appears when one tunes to resonance a specific
transition inside a chosen atom-field subspace, while other transitions remain
dispersive, as a consequence of the field dependent electronic energy shifts.
We show that this scheme can be also employed for reconstructing, in a new and
efficient way, the Wigner function of the cavity field state.Comment: 4 Revtex pages with 3 postscript figures. Submitted for publicatio

A single dose of purple grape juice improves physical performance and antioxidant activity in runners: a randomized, crossover, double?blind, placebo study.
PurposeTo investigate the effects of a single dose of juice on physical performance, oxidative stress, inflammation and muscle damage in runners. Methods Fourteen recreational male runners (39 ± 9 years, VO2peak = 55.9 ± 6.5 ml/kg/min) performed two running tests to exhaustion at 80% of VO2max after ingesting grape juice or a placebo drink (10 ml/kg/day) randomly. Blood samples were taken before and 2 h after supplementation and immediately after running to analyze total antioxidant capacity (TAC), malondialdehyde (MDA), alpha-1 acid glycoprotein (A1GPA), high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), creatine kinase (CK) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH).ResultsThe participants ran for an average of 59.2 ± 27.8 min until exhaustion in the placebo group and for 68.4 ± 29.7 min until exhaustion in the grape juice intake group, which was a significantly longer time (p = 0.008). This improvement in physical performance was accompanied by a 43.6% increase in TAC (p = 0.000) at the post-exercise timepoint compared to the level at baseline. MDA, A1GPA, hs-CRP, CK, and LDH did not exhibit changes. In contrast, no significant change in any variable was observed after consuming the placebo drink.ConclusionThe single-dose intake of purple grape juice demonstrated an ergogenic effect in recreational runners by increas-ing run time to exhaustion and increasing antioxidant activity
