Spin-dependent beating patterns in thermoelectric properties: Filtering the carriers of the heat flux in a Kondo adatom system
We theoretically investigate the thermoelectric properties of a
spin-polarized two-dimensional electron gas hosting a Kondo adatom hybridized
with an STM tip. Such a setup is treated within the single-impurity Anderson
model in combination with the atomic approach for the Green's functions. Due to
the spin dependence of the Fermi wavenumbers the electrical and thermal
conductances, together with thermopower and Lorenz number reveal beating
patterns as function of the STM tip position in the Kondo regime. In
particular, by tuning the lateral displacement of the tip with respect to the
adatom vicinity, the temperature and the position of the adatom level, one can
change the sign of the Seebeck coefficient through charge and spin. This opens
a possibility of the microscopic control of the heat flux analogously to that
established for the electrical current
Dimensionality effects in the LDOS of ferromagnetic hosts probed via STM: spin-polarized quantum beats and spin filtering
We theoretically investigate the local density of states (LDOS) probed by a
STM tip of ferromagnetic metals hosting a single adatom and a subsurface
impurity. We model the system via the two-impurity Anderson Hamiltonian. By
using the equation of motion with the relevant Green functions, we derive
analytical expressions for the LDOS of two host types: a surface and a quantum
wire. The LDOS reveals Friedel-like oscillations and Fano interference as a
function of the STM tip position. These oscillations strongly depend on the
host dimension. Interestingly, we find that the spin-dependent Fermi wave
numbers of the hosts give rise to spin-polarized quantum beats in the LDOS.
While the LDOS for the metallic surface shows a damped beating pattern, it
exhibits an opposite behavior in the quantum wire. Due to this absence of
damping, the wire operates as a spatially resolved spin filter with a high
efficiency.Comment: revised tex
Local dynamics in high-order harmonic generation using Bohmian trajectories
We investigate high-order harmonic generation from a Bohmian-mechanical
perspective, and find that the innermost part of the core, represented by a
single Bohmian trajectory, leads to the main contributions to the high-harmonic
spectra. Using time-frequency analysis, we associate this central Bohmian
trajectory to an ensemble of unbound classical trajectories leaving and
returning to the core, in agreement with the three step model. In the Bohmian
scenario, this physical picture builds up non-locally near the core via the
quantum mechanical phase of the wavefunction. This implies that the flow of the
wavefunction far from the core alters the central Bohmian trajectory. We also
show how this phase degrades in time for the peripheral Bohmian trajectories as
they leave the core region.Comment: 7 pages, 3 figures; the manuscript has been considerably extended and

Cumulant expansion of the periodic Anderson model in infinite dimension
The diagrammatic cumulant expansion for the periodic Anderson model with
infinite Coulomb repulsion () is considered here for an hypercubic
lattice of infinite dimension (). The same type of simplifications
obtained by Metzner for the cumulant expansion of the Hubbard model in the
limit of , are shown to be also valid for the periodic Anderson
model.Comment: 13 pages, 7 figures.ps. To be published in J. Phys. A: Mathematical

Solar analogs with and without planets: T trends and galactic evolution
We explore a sample of 148 solar-like stars to search for a possible
correlation between the slopes of the abundance trends versus condensation
temperature (known as the Tc slope) both with stellar parameters and Galactic
orbital parameters in order to understand the nature of the peculiar chemical
signatures of these stars and the possible connection with planet formation. We
find that the Tc slope correlates at a significant level with the stellar age
and the stellar surface gravity. We also find tentative evidence that the Tc
slope correlates with the mean galactocentric distance of the stars (Rmean),
suggesting that stars that originated in the inner Galaxy have fewer refractory
elements relative to the volatile ones. We found that the chemical
peculiarities (small refractory-to-volatile ratio) of planet-hosting stars is
probably a reflection of their older age and their inner Galaxy origin. We
conclude that the stellar age and probably Galactic birth place are key to
establish the abundances of some specific elements.Comment: Proceedings of the GREAT-ITN conference: The Milky Way Unravelled by

Spanish validation of the revised depression attitude questionnaire (R-daq)
Purpose: The aim of the study was to develop and validate a Spanish version of the Revised Depression Attitude Questionnaire (R-DAQ). Methods: The R-DAQ was used as a baseline for the study. It was translated and tested to ensure the instrument was appropriate for the target population. 537 Ecuadorian healthcare professionals completed the revised Spanish version of the R-DAQ (SR-DAQ). Statistical and exploratory factor analyses were performed to examine construct validity, internal consistency, readability and floor and ceiling effects. Results: Three factors were obtained: “Professional confidence in depression care”; “Therapeutic optimism about depression”; and “Generalist perspective about depression occurrence, recognition, and management”. The internal consistency of the SR-DAQ was determined by means of Cronbach’s α coefficient, with values ranging between 0.61–0.8. The correlations with the English version reflected adequate validity. The model explained 39% of the variance. Subsequent analysis with a sample restricted to those who had received training in depression produced a model that explained 42% of the variance. Conclusion: The SR-DAQ meets the psychometric requirements for measuring depression attitude in a Spanish-speaking population and shows adequate internal consistency and validity
The periodic Anderson model from the atomic limit and FeSi
The exact Green's functions of the periodic Anderson model for
are formally expressed within the cumulant expansion in terms of an effective
cumulant. Here we resort to a calculation in which this quantity is
approximated by the value it takes for the exactly soluble atomic limit of the
same model. In the Kondo region a spectral density is obtained that shows near
the Fermi surface a structure with the properties of the Kondo peak.
Approximate expressions are obtained for the static conductivity
and magnetic susceptibility of the PAM, and they are employed to fit
the experimental values of FeSi, a compound that behaves like a Kondo insulator
with both quantities vanishing rapidly for . Assuming that the system
is in the intermediate valence region, it was possible to find good agreement
between theory and experiment for these two properties by employing the same
set of parameters. It is shown that in the present model the hybridization is
responsible for the relaxation mechanism of the conduction electrons.Comment: 26 pages and 8 figure
Non-Hermitian Hamiltonians with real eigenvalues coupled to electric fields: from the time-independent to the time dependent quantum mechanical formulation
We provide a reviewlike introduction into the quantum mechanical formalism
related to non-Hermitian Hamiltonian systems with real eigenvalues. Starting
with the time-independent framework we explain how to determine an appropriate
domain of a non-Hermitian Hamiltonian and pay particular attention to the role
played by PT-symmetry and pseudo-Hermiticity. We discuss the time-evolution of
such systems having in particular the question in mind of how to couple
consistently an electric field to pseudo-Hermitian Hamiltonians. We illustrate
the general formalism with three explicit examples: i) the generalized Swanson
Hamiltonians, which constitute non-Hermitian extensions of anharmonic
oscillators, ii) the spiked harmonic oscillator, which exhibits explicit
supersymmetry and iii) the -x^4-potential, which serves as a toy model for the
quantum field theoretical phi^4-theory.Comment: 14 pages, 3 figures, to appear in Laser Physics, minor typos

A spin chain model with non-Hermitian interaction: the Ising quantum spin chain in an imaginary field
We investigate a lattice version of the Yang-Lee model which is characterized by a non-Hermitian quantum spin chain Hamiltonian. We propose a new way to implement PT-symmetry on the lattice, which serves to guarantee the reality of the spectrum in certain regions of values of the coupling constants. In that region of unbroken PT-symmetry we construct a Dyson map, a metric operator and find the Hermitian counterpart of the Hamiltonian for small values of the number of sites, both exactly and perturbatively. Besides the standard perturbation theory about the Hermitian part of the Hamiltonian, we also carry out an expansion in the second coupling constant of the model. Our constructions turns out to be unique with the sole assumption that the Dyson map is Hermitian. Finally we compute the magnetization of the chain in the z and x direction
