    A failed cultural transfer? Literary internationalism after the First Wold War and the transnational construction of ‘Europe’

    In this article we analyze the misunderstandings and asymmetries in cultural transfers by exploring the (nationalist-)internationalist intentions behind the production and reception of the volume Europas Neue Kunst und Dichtung/De Nieuwe Europeesche geest in kunst en letteren (1920). This German-Dutch-Italian-English-Belgian collaboration aimed at a climate of international understanding by informing the European audience about literary developments abroad. The initiators, among them the German art historian Friedrich Markus Huebner, the Belgian journalist Paul Colin and the Dutch literary critic Dirk Coster, believed that a reconciliation of war-torn Europe could be established through a cultural transfer between national literatures, that each in their own, unique way reflected a ‘new European spirit’

    Residual stress analysis applied to HPDC aluminium components: a case study

    High-Pressure Die Casting (HPDC) is a casting process largely diffused in the aluminium foundries. By HPDC is possible to obtain aluminium castings with thin walls and high specific mechanical properties in short cycle times. Aluminium HPDC castings are commonly intended for the automotive sector: engine, covers, engine blocks and more in general the powertrain. In recent years, one of the most important focus in the automotive sector is decreasing the powertrain weight, acting on stock allowances in certain parts of the casting. This reduction can affect the dimensional features and in turn the residual stress inside the casting. Despite that, it is possible to obtain beneficial compression states into the castings by mean of post-process operations, such as shot-blasting, to reduce or remove residual stresses by mean of heat treatments. Residual stresses can be assessed by an X-Ray residual stress measurement device, a nondestructive technique that allows observing the process parameters effect into the casting. In this work, after a detailed analysis of the residual stress measurement available for aluminium castings, a powertrain component realized in aluminium alloy EN AC 46000 was analysed. These analyses involved both dimensional response and related residual stresses in the as-cast state and the shot-blasted-state on a valve cover, to understand and prevent the residual stress states into the aluminium castings

    : Diarrhea is a disease characterized by changes in the shape and consistency of stools which becomes soft until watery and increase of the frequency of defecation (more than normal three times a day). North Maluku province is one of the islands in Indonesia which is prone to diarrhea. Data of North Maluku Provincial Health Office showed that most children with diarrhea in Mangon village were under five years. This study aimed to find a description of the housewives\u27 behaviour in diarrhea management in children under five years in Mangon village, Sanana Sula Islands, North Maluku Province. This study was a descriptive survey. There were 91 respondents in accordance with the number of cases of diarrhea in children under five. The results showed that the knowledge about diarrhea management were categorized as good in 75 respondents (82.4%); the mother\u27s attitude were categorized as good in 48 respondents (52.7%); and the mothers\u27 actions in diarrhea management were categorized as good enough in 63 respondents (69.2%). Conclusion: Most mothers of children under five in Mangon village Sanana Sula Islands, North Maluku Province were categorized as good related to their knowledge and attitude in diarrhea management, and were categorized as good enough related to their actions

    Price prediction model of demand and supply in the housing market

    Over recent years, the imbalance between housing demand and supply, particularly in the high-cost housing segment, led to the rapid increase in the house prices. This paper has applied the standard theory of consumer demand and supply supplemented using content analysis method to explain the trend of housing demand and supply of housing market in Malaysia. Sampling in the quantitative content analysis is carried out to achieve the objective. Property Market Status Report in the NAPIC website provide a series data for total housing demand and supply for any house type of terrace, detached, cluster and townhouse in the price range between RM50,000 to RM300,000. All data provided cover from the first quarter until the fourth quarter across the year 2006 to 2015 specifically in Peninsular Malaysia only. Each level of the house price has a different equilibrium price so that developers can use it as an indicator based on the housing type. This research will promote ways to achieve the sustainabiliy in construction output overall so that the scholars can improve the equilibrium price model proposed in order to make the Malaysian housing become an affordable

    Optimisation of epoxy blends for use in extrinsic self-healing fibre-reinforced composites

    AbstractA range of epoxy blends were investigated to determine their mechanical properties and suitability for use as healing agents for the repair of fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites. Key requirements for an effective healing agent are low viscosity, and good mechanical performance. A base epoxy resin was selected and blended with a variety of diluents and a toughening agent, and the physical and mechanical properties of the resulting polymers were investigated. Single lap shear strengths of up to 139% of the base epoxy values were demonstrated, while double cantilever beam testing showed specimens healed with optimised epoxy blends can provide recoveries in fracture toughness of up to 269%, compared to 56% in specimens healed with the base epoxy resin. Cross-ply FRP laminate tensile specimens were used to highlight the potential to recover stiffness decay caused by intraply cracking. Following infusion of the damage via embedded vascules, the toughened epoxies were capable of providing complete recovery of stiffness
