We have explored a wide range of linear electronic densities in the weak (strong) coupling regimes that appear when the ratio of spin-orbit to confining energy is small (large). These results are used to obtain the conductance of the wire. In the strong coupling limit, the interplay between the applied magnetic field irrespective of the in-plane direction, the exchange-correlation energy, and the spin-orbit energy produces anomalous plateaus in the conductance vs linear density plots that are otherwise absent, or washes out plateaus that appear when the exchange-correlation energy is not taken into account.This work has been performed under Grants No. FIS2005-01414 and No. FIS2005-02796 from DGI (Spain), Grant No. 2005SGR00343 from Generalitat de Catalunya, and under Grant No. INFN07-30 from the Italian INFN-Spanish DGI agreement.http://dx.doi.org/10.1103/PhysRevB.76.11530

    The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of androgen ablation therapy in different prostate cancer (PCa) cell lines-reflecting different stages of the disease-on (18)F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG), (11)C-choline and (11)C-acetate uptake. Uptake experiments were performed in androgen-sensitive (LNCaP, PC346C) and independent cell lines (22Rv1, PC346DCC, PC-3) as well as in a benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH-1) cell line. Tracer uptake was assessed under androgen ablation. Results of the cancer cell lines were normalized to those of BPH-1. To evaluate the effect of androgen on the uptake of (18)F-FDG, (11)C-choline and (11)C-acetate in PCa cell lines, 10(-8)M R1881, 10(-10)M R1881, the combination of 10(-10)M R1881 plus 10(-6)M Casodex or 10(-6)M Casodex alone were added in parallel cell cultures 1 day before uptake experiments. Uptake in androgen-supplemented cell cultures was compared to the uptake under androgen deprivation. Uptake was corrected for cell number using protein content. Compared to BPH-1, a higher (18)F-FDG uptake was observed only in PC346C cells, whereas a higher (11)C-choline and markedly increased (11)C-acetate uptake was seen in all cancer cell lines. Androgens significantly modulated the uptake of (18)F-FDG in LNCaP, PC346C and 22Rv1 cells, and of (11)C-choline in the PC346C and 22Rv1 cell line. No androgenic effect on (11)C-choline and (18)F-FDG uptake was observed in PC-3 and PC346DCC cells. (11)C-Acetate uptake was independent of androgen status in all PCa cell lines studied. (18)F-FDG uptake in PCa cell lines showed the highest variability and strongest androgen effect, suggesting its poor potential for metabolic imaging of advanced PCa. In contrast to (18)F-FDG and (11)C-choline, (11)C-acetate uptake was unaffected by androgens and thus (11)C-acetate seems best for monitoring PCa progression

    p.85-88El objetivo del presente trabajo es evaluar la distancia crítica para la inoculación del micelio de Sclerotinia sclerotiorum al cuello de la planta de lechuga (Lactuca sativa) y el peso del mismo para producir infección y caída de las plántulas en cámara de cultivo. La mayor cantidad de plantas caídas se obtuvo con 0,7 y 2,8 grs de inoculo (masa miceliar) ubicado junto al cuello de la planta. Estos resultados pueden ser de utilidad para estudios acerca del control cultural, químico o biológico de la podredumbre ocasionada por S. sclerotiorum en lechuga

    Joint EANM/SNMMI procedure guideline for the use of 177Lu-labeled PSMA-targeted radioligand-therapy (177Lu-PSMA-RLT)

    Prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) is expressed by the majority of clinically significant prostate adenocarcinomas, and patients with target-positive disease can easily be identified by PSMA PET imaging. Promising results with PSMA-targeted radiopharmaceutical therapy have already been obtained in early-phase studies using various combinations of targeting molecules and radiolabels. Definitive evidence of the safety and efficacy of [177Lu]Lu-PSMA-617 in combination with standard-of-care has been demonstrated in patients with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer, whose disease had progressed after or during at least one taxane regimen and at least one novel androgen-axis drug. Preliminary data suggest that 177Lu-PSMA-radioligand therapy (RLT) also has high potential in additional clinical situations. Hence, the radiopharmaceuticals [177Lu]Lu-PSMA-617 and [177Lu]Lu-PSMA-I&T are currently being evaluated in ongoing phase 3 trials. The purpose of this guideline is to assist nuclear medicine personnel, to select patients with highest potential to benefit from 177Lu-PSMA-RLT, to perform the procedure in accordance with current best practice, and to prepare for possible side effects and their clinical management. We also provide expert advice, to identify those clinical situations which may justify the off-label use of [177Lu]Lu-PSMA-617 or other emerging ligands on an individual patient basis

    Vemurafenib plus cobimetinib in unresectable stage IIIc or stage IV melanoma

    Background: In patients with BRAFV600 mutated unresectable stage IIIc or metastatic melanoma, molecular targeted therapy with combined BRAF/MEK-inhibitor vemurafenib plus cobimetinib has shown a significantly improved progression-free survival and overall survival compared to treatment with vemurafenib alone. Nevertheless, the majority of BRAFV600 mutation-positive melanoma patients will eventually develop resistance to treatment. Molecular imaging with 18F-Fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG) PET has been used to monitor response to vemurafenib in some BRAFV600 mutated metastatic melanoma patients, showing a rapid decline of 18F-FDG uptake within 2 weeks following treatment. Furthermore, preliminary results suggest that metabolic alterations might predict the development of resistance to treatment. 18F-Fluoro-3'-deoxy-3'L-fluorothymidine (18F-FLT), a PET-tracer visualizing proliferation, might be more suitable to predict response or resistance to therapy than 18F-FDG. Methods: This phase II, open-label, multicenter study evaluates whether metabolic response to treatment with vemurafenib plus cobimetinib in the first 7 weeks as assessed by 18F-FDG/18F-FLT PET can predict progression-free survival and whether early changes in 18F-FDG/18F-FLT can be used for early detection of treatment response compared to standard response assessment with RECISTv1.1 ceCT at 7 weeks. Ninety patients with BRAFV600E/K mutated unresectable stage IIIc/IV melanoma will be included. Prior to and during treatment all patients will undergo 18F-FDG PET/CT and in 25 patients additional 18F-FLT PET/CT is performed. Histopathological tumor characterization is assessed in a subset of 40 patients to unravel mechanisms of resistance. Furthermore, in all patients, blood samples are taken for pharmacokinetic analysis of vemurafenib/cobimetinib. Outcomes are correlated with PET/CT-imaging and therapy response.
