    Accurate Mass Determinations in Decay Chains with Missing Energy: II

    Full text link
    We discuss kinematic methods for determining the masses of the particles in events at a hadron collider in which a pair of identical particles is produced with each decaying via a series of on-shell intermediate beyond-the-SM (BSM) particles to visible SM particles and an invisible particle (schematically, pp -> ZZ + jets with Z -> Aa -> Bba -> Ccba -> ... -> cba... + N where a,b,c,... are visible SM particles or groups of SM particles, A,B,C,... are on-shell BSM particles and N is invisible). This topology arises in many models including SUSY processes such as squark and gluino pair production and decay. We present the detailed procedure for the case of Z -> 3 visible particles + N and demonstrate that the masses obtained from the kinematic procedure are independent of the model by comparing SUSY to UED.Comment: v2, published version in PR

    The Performance Of Teachers Certified In Elementary School 003Pulau Padang. The performance of a teacher have a benefit fungtion. To that end, theteacher quality improvement efforts have been made one through the teacher certificationprogram. However, seen here not found a fundamental difference of performance betweenteachers who are not certified by the certification, the low motivation of teachers and, stilllack the discipline teacher.The theory used is Supardi theory is the ability and success of teachers in carrying outlearning tasks shown by the indicators. In this study the authors use a qualitative descriptivestudy was conducted in 003 Elementary School District of PulauPadang Singingi RegencyKuantanSingingidistrik.In the data collection be conducted key informant interviews, theleadershif teacher. Analysis of data the performance of teachers certified in ElementarySchool 003 Pulau Padang then analyzed what are the factors that affect the performance ofcertified teachers who are supported by interviews conducted by the researcher then bededuced.The results of the research showed that the performance of teachers certified inElementary School 003 Pulau Padang optimal because it is supported by good leadearshipofthe principal and also a good team work of all the teachers.Then the limiting factor is theperformance of teachers certified individual factors, namely the teachers have not been ableto develop personal skills, system factors, namelyschool facilities are not yet complete..Keywords: Performance, Certificatio

    Storm‐time configuration of the inner magnetosphere: Lyon‐Fedder‐Mobarry MHD code, Tsyganenko model, and GOES observations

    [1] We compare global magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) simulation results with an empirical model and observations to understand the magnetic field configuration and plasma distribution in the inner magnetosphere, especially during geomagnetic storms. The physics-based Lyon-Fedder-Mobarry (LFM) code simulates Earth\u27s magnetospheric topology and dynamics by solving the equations of ideal MHD. Quantitative comparisons of simulated events with observations reveal strengths and possible limitations and suggest ways to improve the LFM code. Here we present a case study that compares the LFM code to both a semiempirical magnetic field model and to geosynchronous measurements from GOES satellites. During a magnetic cloud event, the simulation and model predictions compare well qualitatively with observations, except during storm main phase. Quantitative statistical studies of the MHD simulation shows that MHD field lines are consistently under-stretched, especially during storm time (Dst \u3c −20 nT) on the nightside, a likely consequence of an insufficient representation of the inner magnetosphere current systems in ideal MHD. We discuss two approaches for improving the LFM result: increasing the simulation spatial resolution and coupling LFM with a ring current model based on drift physics (i.e., the Rice Convection Model (RCM)). We show that a higher spatial resolution LFM code better predicts geosynchronous magnetic fields (not only the average Bz component but also higher-frequency fluctuations driven by the solar wind). An early version of the LFM/RCM coupled code, which runs so far only for idealized events, yields a much-improved ring current, quantifiable by decreased field strengths at all local times compared to the LFM-only code

    Electrical spin injection from an organic-based ferrimagnet in a hybrid organic/inorganic heterostructure

    Full text link
    We report the successful extraction of spin polarized current from the organic-based room temperature ferrimagnetic semiconductor V[TCNE]x (x~2, TCNE: tetracyanoethylene; TC ~ 400 K, EG ~ 0.5 eV, s ~ 10-2 S/cm) and its subsequent injection into a GaAs/AlGaAs light-emitting diode (LED). The spin current tracks the magnetization of V[TCNE]x~2, is weakly temperature dependent, and exhibits heavy hole / light hole asymmetry. This result has implications for room temperature spintronics and the use of inorganic materials to probe spin physics in organic and molecular systems

    Probing the superconducting gap symmetry of PrRu4_{4}Sb12_{12}: A comparison with PrOs4_{4}Sb12_{12}

    Full text link
    We report measurements of the magnetic penetration depth λ\lambda in single crystals of PrRu4_{4}Sb12_{12} down to 0.1 K. Both λ\lambda and superfluid density ρs\rho_{s} exhibit an exponential behavior for TT << 0.5TcT_{c}, with parameters Δ\Delta(0)/\textit{k}B_{B}\textit{T}c_{c} = 1.9 and λ(0)\lambda(0) = 2900 \AA. The value of Δ\Delta(0) is consistent with the specific-heat jump value of ΔC/ÎłTc\Delta C/\gamma T_{c} = 1.87 measured elsewhere, while the value of λ(0)\lambda(0) is consistent with the measured value of the electronic heat-capacity coefficient Îł\gamma. Our data are consistent with PrRu4_{4}Sb12_{12} being a moderate-coupling, fully-gapped superconductor. We suggest experiments to study how the nature of the superconducting state evolves with increasing Ru substitution for Os

    An assessment of construction labour productivity in Malaysia

    Get PDF
    The construction industry is one of major strategic importance. Its level of productivity has a significant effect on national economic growth. The analysis of published census/biannual surveys of construction by the Department of Statistics of Malaysia shows that Malaysia managed to achieve construction labour productivity growth between 1996 and 2005 despite increases in cost per employee. The decrease in unit labour costs is attributed to the value added improvement per worker through the increase in capital intensity. The marginal decline in capital productivity is due to the gestation period and the overcapacity of the industry. The civil engineering sub-sector recorded the highest labour productivity and is the most labour competitive in terms of unit labour cost and added value per labour cost. The residential sub-sectors recorded greatest change in the productivity indicators between 1996 and 2005
