    In an innovative inverse-problem construction the measured, experimental energies E1E_1, E2E_2, ...ENE_N of a quantum bound-state system are assumed fitted by an N-plet of zeros of a classical orthogonal polynomial fN(E)f_N(E). We reconstruct the underlying Hamiltonian HH (in the most elementary nearest-neighbor-interaction form) and the underlying Hilbert space H{\cal H} of states (the rich menu of non-equivalent inner products is offered).     Managing Employees In Higher Education Transformation: Exploring The Goal Of Vision 10: 2022 Of Covenant University, Nigeria

    Education is a tool of high value to the welfare of any society as it is crucial to the resolution of complex problems and development challenges in the world today. It is in this regard that, Covenant University (CU) has set out to achieV,.e the goal of transforming higher education by becoming one of the best ten universities in the wor1&1>y the year, 2022 (otherwise known as Vision 1 0:2022). Thus, the objective of this study is to investigate the preparedness of the employees to accept the CU vision and the factors that would significantly motivate the desired level of acceptance. This is important because organizations can hardly grow beyond the quality and support of their workforce. The study utilized data collected from a randomly selected sample of both academic and administrative employees of the university. Thereafter, regression analysis was performed to identify the determinants of acceptance of the vision 10:2022. The results of this study show that the vision has the potential to be actualized within the set period. However, the management of the university should take proactive steps to address the factors which have been identified in the study)hat cou ld constrain the effective implementation and actualization of the vision. This is critical , especially that the mean score for the acceptance of the vision is moderate. Given the time frame within which the vision is expected to be actualized, the moderate score needs to be improved upon by strengthening the variables currently impacting the vision positively and addressing those others that have the potential to stall effective implementation and actualization.     Mining the ESO WFI and INT WFC archives for known Near Earth Asteroids. Mega-Precovery software

    The ESO/MPG WFI and the INT WFC wide field archives comprising 330,000 images were mined to search for serendipitous encounters of known Near Earth Asteroids (NEAs) and Potentially Hazardous Asteroids (PHAs). A total of 152 asteroids (44 PHAs and 108 other NEAs) were identified using the PRECOVERY software, their astrometry being measured on 761 images and sent to the Minor Planet Centre. Both recoveries and precoveries were reported, including prolonged orbital arcs for 18 precovered objects and 10 recoveries. We analyze all new opposition data by comparing the orbits fitted before and after including our contributions. We conclude the paper presenting Mega-Precovery, a new online service focused on data mining of many instrument archives simultaneously for one or a few given asteroids. A total of 28 instrument archives have been made available for mining using this tool, adding together about 2.5 million images forming the Mega-Archive.Comment: Accepted for publication in Astronomische Nachrichten (Sep 2012

    Radiation Damping in FRW Space-times with Different Topologies

    We study the role played by the compactness and the degree of connectedness in the time evolution of the energy of a radiating system in the Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) space-times whose t=constt=const spacelike sections are the Euclidean 3-manifold R3{\cal R}^3 and six topologically non-equivalent flat orientable compact multiply connected Riemannian 3-manifolds. An exponential damping of the energy E(t)E(t) is present in the R3{\cal R}^3 case, whereas for the six compact flat 3-spaces it is found basically the same pattern for the evolution of the energy, namely relative minima and maxima occurring at different times (depending on the degree of connectedness) followed by a growth of E(t)E(t). Likely reasons for this divergent behavior of E(t)E(t) in these compact flat 3-manifolds are discussed and further developments are indicated. A misinterpretation of Wolf's results regarding one of the six orientable compact flat 3-manifolds is also indicated and rectified.Comment: 13 pages, RevTeX, 5 figures, To appear in Phys. Rev.     Observational Limits on Machos in the Galactic Halo

    We present final results from the first phase of the EROS search for gravitational microlensing of stars in the Magellanic Clouds by unseen deflectors (machos: MAssive Compact Halo Objects). The search is sensitive to events with time scales between 15 minutes and 200 days corresponding to deflector masses in the range 1.e-7 to a few solar masses. Two events were observed that are compatible with microlensing by objects of mass of about 0.1 Mo. By comparing the results with the expected number of events for various models of the Galaxy, we conclude that machos in the mass range [1.e-7, 0.02] Mo make up less than 20% (95% C.L.) of the Halo dark matter.Comment: 4 pages, 3 Postscript figures, to be published in Astronomy & Astrophysic

    An exactly solvable quantum-lattice model with a tunable degree of nonlocality

    An array of N subsequent Laguerre polynomials is interpreted as an eigenvector of a non-Hermitian tridiagonal Hamiltonian HH with real spectrum or, better said, of an exactly solvable N-site-lattice cryptohermitian Hamiltonian whose spectrum is known as equal to the set of zeros of the N-th Laguerre polynomial. The two key problems (viz., the one of the ambiguity and the one of the closed-form construction of all of the eligible inner products which make HH Hermitian in the respective {\em ad hoc} Hilbert spaces) are discussed. Then, for illustration, the first four simplest, kk-parametric definitions of inner products with k=0,k=1,k=2k=0,k=1,k=2 and k=3k=3 are explicitly displayed. In mathematical terms these alternative inner products may be perceived as alternative Hermitian conjugations of the initial N-plet of Laguerre polynomials. In physical terms the parameter kk may be interpreted as a measure of the "smearing of the lattice coordinates" in the model.Comment: 35 p

    Observation of periodic variable stars towards the galactic spiral arms by EROS II

    We present the results of a massive variability search based on a photometric survey of a six square degree region along the Galactic plane at (l=305l = 305^\circ, b=0.8b = -0.8^\circ) and (l=330l = 330^\circ, b=2.5b = -2.5^\circ). This survey was performed in the framework of the EROS II (Exp\'erience de Recherche d'Objets Sombres) microlensing program. The variable stars were found among 1,913,576 stars that were monitored between April and June 1998 in two passbands, with an average of 60 measurements. A new period-search technique is proposed which makes use of a statistical variable that characterizes the overall regularity of the flux versus phase diagram. This method is well suited when the photometric data are unevenly distributed in time, as is our case. 1,362 objects whose luminosity varies were selected. Among them we identified 9 Cepheids, 19 RR Lyrae, 34 Miras, 176 eclipsing binaries and 266 Semi-Regular stars. Most of them are newly identified objects. The cross-identification with known catalogues has been performed. The mean distance of the RR Lyrae is estimated to be 4.9±0.3\sim 4.9 \pm 0.3 kpc undergoing an average absorption of 3.4±0.2\sim 3.4 \pm 0.2 magnitudes. This distance is in good agreement with the one of disc stars which contribute to the microlensing source star population.Our catalogue and light curves are available electronically from the CDS, Strasbourg and from our Web site http://eros.in2p3.fr.Comment: 15 pages, 11 figures, accepted in A&A (april 2002

    Localization transition of random copolymers at interfaces

    We consider adsorption of random copolymer chains onto an interface within the model of Garel et al. Europhysics Letters 8, 9 (1989). By using the replica method the adsorption of the copolymer at the interface is mapped onto the problem of finding the ground state of a quantum mechanical Hamiltonian. To study this ground state we introduce a novel variational principle for the Green's function, which generalizes the well-known Rayleigh-Ritz method of Quantum Mechanics to nonstationary states. Minimization with an appropriate trial Green's function enables us to find the phase diagram for the localization-delocalization transition for an ideal random copolymer at the interface.Comment: 5 page

    Optical investigation on the electronic structures of Y_{2}Ru_{2}O_{7}, CaRuO_{3}, SrRuO_{3}, and Bi_{2}Ru_{2}O_{7}

    We investigated the electronic structures of the bandwidth-controlled ruthenates, Y2_{2}Ru2_{2}O7_{7}, CaRuO3_{3}, SrRuO3_{3}, and Bi2_{2}Ru2% _{2}O7_{7}, by optical conductivity analysis in a wide energy region of 5 meV \sim 12 eV. We could assign optical transitions from the systematic changes of the spectra and by comparison with the O 1ss x-ray absorption data. We estimated some physical parameters, such as the on-site Coulomb repulsion energy and the crystal-field splitting energy. These parameters show that the 4dd orbitals should be more extended than 3dd ones. These results are also discussed in terms of the Mott-Hubbard model.Comment: 12 pages (1 table), 3 figure
