    Existing long-term orbital debris models are assessed as a first step in the Air Force's effort to develop an Air Force long-term orbital debris model which can perform the following functions: (1) operate with the necessary accuracy at the relevant altitudes and orbital parameters; (2) benefit from new Air Force and non-Air Force debris measurements; and (3) accommodate current and future Air Force space scenarios. Model assessment results are shown for the NASA engineering model. The status of the NASA EVOLVE model assessment is discussed

    The design and analysis of factorial experiments

    Factorial experiments are experiments which include all combinations of several different sets of treatments or "factors." Information is thus simultaneously obtained on the responses to the different factors, and also on the effects of changes in the level of each factor on the responses to the others. This Technical Communication has not been written with the object of convincing experimenters of the need for employing factorial designs, but rather for those who, while fully conscious of the advantages of such designs, find difficulty in laying them out and in analysing the results. It is,_ in fact, an attempt to give a comprehensive survey oi the simpler types of design at present available, and a description of the appropriate methods of analysis. The reader who has not done so is advised to first read Prof. R. A. Fisher's Design of Experiments, where he will find a full account of the logical basis of the whole technique of modern experimental design

    Detection of Trending Topic Communities: Bridging Content Creators and Distributors

    The rise of a trending topic on Twitter or Facebook leads to the temporal emergence of a set of users currently interested in that topic. Given the temporary nature of the links between these users, being able to dynamically identify communities of users related to this trending topic would allow for a rapid spread of information. Indeed, individual users inside a community might receive recommendations of content generated by the other users, or the community as a whole could receive group recommendations, with new content related to that trending topic. In this paper, we tackle this challenge, by identifying coherent topic-dependent user groups, linking those who generate the content (creators) and those who spread this content, e.g., by retweeting/reposting it (distributors). This is a novel problem on group-to-group interactions in the context of recommender systems. Analysis on real-world Twitter data compare our proposal with a baseline approach that considers the retweeting activity, and validate it with standard metrics. Results show the effectiveness of our approach to identify communities interested in a topic where each includes content creators and content distributors, facilitating users' interactions and the spread of new information.Comment: 9 pages, 4 figures, 2 tables, Hypertext 2017 conferenc
