Background: Following pulmonary aspiration of gastric contents, a variety of conditions occurs ranging from the acute inflammatory response (aspiration pneumonitis) to an infectious process (aspiration pneumonia). They cause due to the failure of protecting mechanism of airway patency following poisoning toxicity. Methods: Patients with acute drug poisoning for assessment of aspiration-induced lung injury evaluated during the twelfth months. Results: 410 participants followed the study. Of those, 249 (61 %) were male and 161 (39%) female. They ranged between 17-55 years. The mode was 25-39 years with frequency of 38%.  The mean±SD of age was 32.3±14.5 (Female 34% and Male 27% respectively). The mean age ±SD of females was lower than males (27.3±12.4 vs. 34.4±14.4 years old). An episode of vomiting was recorded positive in 62% (254) of patients. They were recorded by self-reported or witnessed by someone else within the first hours of poisoning. The chest radiograph abnormality was observed mostly in both lungs (45%, 185). They consisted of multifocal patchy infiltrates in lungs 44% (178), diffuse bilateral infiltration 35% (144), and bilateral perihilar consolidation 18% (72) and lobular consolidation 4% (16) mainly in both lung fields (45%, 185). Aspiration related pulmonary complications attributed to pneumonitis 43.5% (178) including ARDS 35% (144), pneumonia 18% (72), and lung abscess 4% (16). There was a significant relationship with vomiting (P=0. 04).Conclusion: Aspiration pulmonary abnormalities were the commonest lung manifestation of drug toxicities. Chest x-ray abnormalities associated with vomiting presentation are clues to finding pulmonary complications of acute drug toxicity

S-system theory applied to array-based GNSS ionospheric sensing

    Get PDF
The GPS carrier-phase and code data have proven to be valuable sources of measuring the Earth’s ionospheric total electron content (TEC). With the development of new GNSSs with multi frequency data, many more ionosphere-sensing combinations of different precision can be formed as input of ionospheric modelling. We present the general way of interpreting such combinations through an application of S-system theory and address how their precision propagates into that of the unbiased TEC solution. Presenting the data relevant to TEC determination, we propose the usage of an array of GNSS antennas to improve the TEC precision and to expedite the rather long observational time-span required for high-precision TEC determination

    Get PDF
In this paper, the efficiency of an aqueous two-phase system (ATPS) for purification of nanometer-sized bioparticles, plasmid DNA (pDNA), was studied. Polymer-salt ATPS consisting of polyethylenglycol (PEG)-K2HPO4 was used for the purification of 7 kb and 14 kb plasmid vectors. PEG-300 and PEG-1450 were applied to investigate the influence of different molecular mass of PEGon partitioning behavior of pDNA. The Taguchi design of experiments has been applied in order to optimize the significant system characteristics including PEG/salt ratio, temperature, lysate mass fraction and size of plasmid for pDNA separation by using ATPS. The results indicated that PEG/salt ratio has a considerable contribution on pDNA recovery both in the presence of PEG-300 and PEG-1450. It is also obtained that the size of pDNA in the range of 7 kb to 14 kb is not a significant factor on its partitioning. Furthermore, pDNA is easily partitioned to polymer-rich top phase in PEG300/salt system; and in salt-rich bottom phase in PEG1450/salt system. Under optimum conditions, pDNA was extracted in top phase of PEG-300/K2HPO4 with mass percent of 26 : 17 at 25 °C with a recovery percent of 85

Incorporation of silver carp (Hypophthalmichthys molitrix) meat in extruded puffed corn-fish snack was studied. Fish protein concentrate (FPC) was produced by liquid-solid extraction. Ethanol and isopropanol were used as the solvents. FPC extraction efficiency of 19.5% and 9.5% (w/w) were obtained based on fish meat and whole fish respectively. Protein content of isopropanol extracted FPC (93.3%±0.4) significantly (P<0.05) was higher than ethanol extracted (92.5%±0.3) FPC. On the contrary fat contents were 0.17%±0.4 and 0.65%±0.11 respectively. Puffed corn-fish snack with 2 and 4% FPC as well as 5, 10, 15, and 20% minced fish meat in corn grits was extruded by a single screw extruder. The best formula was evaluated at 15% fish meat and 85% corn grits in the snack base, considering higher protein content, higher consumer acceptability, higher expansion ratio and lower fish smell. Six month storage stability “same as control” was obtained considering chemical, microbial and sensory evaluation according to standard of Institute of Standards and Industrial Research of Iran; when Metalized Biaxillary-Oriented Poly Propylene was used as the packaging material. Incorporation of abdominal muscles (8% of whole fish body which obtained from trimming of fish fillets) on corn-fish snack was not feasible due to low-protein (11.7±0.1 i.e. 34% less than fish meat) and high-fat (14.2±0.1 i.e. 550% higher than fish meat) contents
