Education in transition - educational policy and the American youth program in post-war Germany

Am Beispiel der Jugendpolitik der amerikanischen Besatzungsbehörden nach 1945 belegt der Beitrag, gestützt auf neu erschlossene Archivalien der US-Behörden, daß sich die amerikanische Erziehungspolitik keineswegs auf das Schulwesen beschränkt hat. Vielmehr war sie in den umfassenden Versuch eingebunden, für die Jugend und die pädagogischen Berufe neue Handlungs- und Qualifizierungsmuster bzw. auch Institutionen zu schaffen. Dies wurde auch im Bereich der Jugendpolitik weitgehend gegen traditionelle Vorstellungen der deutschen Beteiligten unternommen. (DIPF/Orig.)Taking the youth policy of the American occupation authorities of after 1945 as an example and drawing on archives of the US authorities recently made accessible, the author shows that the American educational policy was by no means restricted to the school system. Rather, it was part of an extensive plan to create new patterns of action and qualification as well as new institutions for both adolescents and teachers. In the field of youth policy, this plan was largely carried out in opposition to the traditional ideas of the Germans involved. (DIPF/Orig.
