A comparison of the calculated and experimental off-design performance of a radial flow turbine

    Get PDF
Off design aerodynamic performance of the solid version of a cooled radial inflow turbine is analyzed. Rotor surface static pressure data and other performance parameters were obtained experimentally. Overall stage performance and turbine blade surface static to inlet total pressure ratios were calculated by using a quasi-three dimensional inviscid code. The off design prediction capability of this code for radial inflow turbines shows accurate static pressure prediction. Solutions show a difference of 3 to 5 points between the experimentally obtained efficiencies and the calculated values

Raman calibration of the LHD YAG Thomson scattering for electron-density measurements

    Get PDF
We have calibrated the LHD yttrium aluminum garnet (YAG) Thomson scattering system by using anti-Stokes rotational Raman scattering from air for the measurements of absolute electron-density profiles of LHD plasmas. The air Raman calibration was carried out at near atmospheric pressure and room temperature. Total uncertainty in measured electron densities is estimated to be ±15% or less. Electron densities obtained with the calibrated YAG Thomson scattering show good agreements with those measured by the LHD millimeter-wave interferometer

Analysis strategy for the SM Higgs boson search in the four-lepton final state in CMS

    Get PDF
The current status of the searches for the SM Higgs boson in the HH\rightarrowZZ()ZZ^{(*)}\rightarrow44\ell decay channel with the CMS experiment is presented. The selection cuts for suppressing the backgrounds while keeping very high signal efficiencies are described, along with the data-driven algorithms implemented to estimate the background yields and the systematic uncertainties. With an integrated luminosity of 1.66fb11.66 \mathrm{fb}^{-1}, upper limits at 95% CL on the SM-like Higgs cross section ×\times branching ratio exclude cross sections from about one to two times the expected value from the Standard Model in the range 150<mH<420GeV150 < m_{H} < 420 \mathrm{GeV}. No evidence for the existence of the SM Higgs boson has been found so far.Comment: "Presented at the 2011 Hadron Collider Physics symposium (HCP-2011), Paris, France, November 14-18 2011, 3 pages, 5 figures.
