During 1975, there were active in Nebraska 42 limestone quarries; 596 sand, gravel and silt or siltstone pits; 8 clay or shale pits; 22 sandstone pits; and 1 peat pit. These 669 mining operations disturbed 663 acres and restored 161 acres during the year
