    Semiclassical theory of transport in a random magnetic field

    We study the semiclassical kinetics of 2D fermions in a smoothly varying magnetic field B(r)B({\bf r}). The nature of the transport depends crucially on both the strength B0B_0 of the random component of B(r)B({\bf r}) and its mean value Bˉ\bar{B}. For Bˉ=0\bar{B}=0, the governing parameter is α=d/R0\alpha=d/R_0, where dd is the correlation length of disorder and R0R_0 is the Larmor radius in the field B0B_0. While for α1\alpha\ll 1 the Drude theory applies, at α1\alpha\gg 1 most particles drift adiabatically along closed contours and are localized in the adiabatic approximation. The conductivity is then determined by a special class of trajectories, the "snake states", which percolate by scattering at the saddle points of B(r)B({\bf r}) where the adiabaticity of their motion breaks down. The external field also suppresses the diffusion by creating a percolation network of drifting cyclotron orbits. This kind of percolation is due only to a weak violation of the adiabaticity of the cyclotron rotation, yielding an exponential drop of the conductivity at large Bˉ\bar{B}. In the regime α1\alpha\gg 1 the crossover between the snake-state percolation and the percolation of the drift orbits with increasing Bˉ\bar{B} has the character of a phase transition (localization of snake states) smeared exponentially weakly by non-adiabatic effects. The ac conductivity also reflects the dynamical properties of particles moving on the fractal percolation network. In particular, it has a sharp kink at zero frequency and falls off exponentially at higher frequencies. We also discuss the nature of the quantum magnetooscillations. Detailed numerical studies confirm the analytical findings. The shape of the magnetoresistivity at α1\alpha\sim 1 is in good agreement with experimental data in the FQHE regime near ν=1/2\nu=1/2.Comment: 22 pages REVTEX, 14 figure

    Anomalously localized states and multifractal correlations of critical wavefunctions in two-dimensional electron systems with spin-orbital interactions

    Anomalously localized states (ALS) at the critical point of the Anderson transition are studied for the SU(2) model belonging to the two-dimensional symplectic class. Giving a quantitative definition of ALS to clarify statistical properties of them, the system-size dependence of a probability to find ALS at criticality is presented. It is found that the probability increases with the system size and ALS exist with a finite probability even in an infinite critical system, though the typical critical states are kept to be multifractal. This fact implies that ALS should be eliminated from an ensemble of critical states when studying critical properties from distributions of critical quantities. As a demonstration of the effect of ALS to critical properties, we show that the distribution function of the correlation dimension of critical wavefunctions becomes a delta function in the thermodynamic limit only if ALS are eliminated.Comment: 7 pages, 6 figure

    The general practitioners perspective regarding registration of persistent somatic symptoms in primary care: a survey

    BackgroundPersistent somatic symptoms (PSS) are common in primary care and often accompanied by an increasing disease burden for both the patient and healthcare. In medical practice, PSS is historically considered a diagnosis by exclusion or primarily seen as psychological. Besides, registration of PSS in electronic health records (EHR) is ambiguous and possibly does not reflect classification adequately. The present study explores how general practitioners (GPs) currently register PSS, and their view regarding the need for improvements in classification, registration, and consultations.MethodDutch GPs were invited by email to participate in a national cross-sectional online survey. The survey addressed ICPC-codes used by GPs to register PSS, PSS-related terminology added to free text areas, usage of PSS-related syndrome codes, and GPs’ need for improvement of PSS classification, registration and care.ResultsGPs (n = 259) were most likely to use codes specific to the symptom presented (89.3%). PSS-related terminology in free-text areas was used sparsely. PSS-related syndrome codes were reportedly used by 91.5% of GPs, but this was primarily the case for the code for irritable bowel syndrome. The ambiguous registration of PSS is reported as problematic by 47.9% of GPs. Over 56.7% of GPs reported needing additional training, tools or other support for PSS classification and consultation. GPs also reported needing other referral options and better guidelines.ConclusionsRegistration of PSS in primary care is currently ambiguous. Approximately half of GPs felt a need for more options for registration of PSS and reported a need for further support.     Optical Properties of MFe_4P_12 filled skutterudites

    Infrared reflectance spectroscopy measurements were made on four members of the MFe_4P_12 family of filled skutterudites, with M=La, Th, Ce and U. In progressing from M=La to U the system undergoes a metal-insulator transition. It is shown that, although the filling atom induces such dramatic changes in the transport properties of the system, it has only a small effect on lattice dynamics.     Dimensional Crossover of Localisation and Delocalisation in a Quantum Hall Bar

    The 2-- to 1--dimensional crossover of the localisation length of electrons confined to a disordered quantum wire of finite width LyL_y is studied in a model of electrons moving in the potential of uncorrelated impurities. An analytical formula for the localisation length is derived, describing the dimensional crossover as function of width LyL_y, conductance gg and perpendicular magnetic field BB . On the basis of these results, the scaling analysis of the quantum Hall effect in high Landau levels, and the delocalisation transition in a quantum Hall wire are reconsidered.Comment: 12 pages, 7 figure

    Cost-effectiveness of Internet Interventions Compared With Treatment as Usual for People With Mental Disorders: Systematic Review and Meta-analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials

    Background: The economic costs of mental disorders for society are huge. Internet-based interventions are often coined as cost-effective alternatives to usual care, but the evidence is mixed. Objective: The aim was to review the literature on the cost-effectiveness of internet interventions for mental disorders compared with usual care and to provide an estimate of the monetary benefits of such interventions compared with usual care. Methods: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials was conducted, which included participants with symptoms of mental disorders; investigated a telephone- or internet-based intervention; included a control condition in the form of treatment as usual, psychological placebo, waiting list control, or bibliotherapy; reported outcomes on both quality of life and costs; and included articles published in English. Electronic databases such as PubMed (including MEDLINE), Embase, Emcare, PsycINFO, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Library were used. Data on risk of bias, quality of the economic evaluation, quality-adjusted life years, and costs were extracted from the included studies, and the incremental net benefit was calculated and pooled. Results: The search yielded 6226 abstracts, and 37 studies with 14,946 participants were included. The quality of economic evaluations of the included studies was rated as moderate, and the risk of bias was high. A random-effects approach was maintained. Analyses suggested internet interventions were slightly more effective than usual care in terms of quality-adjusted life years gain (Hedges g=0.052, 95% CI 0.010-0.094; P=.02) and equally expensive (Hedges g=0.002, 95% CI −0.080 to 0.84; P=.96). The pooled incremental net benefit was US 255(95255 (95% CI US 91 to US $419; P=.002), favoring internet interventions over usual care. The perspective of the economic evaluation and targeted mental disorder moderated the results. Conclusions: The findings indicate that the cost-effectiveness of internet interventions for mental disorders compared with a care-as-usual approach is likely, but generalizability to new studies is poor given the substantial heterogeneity. This is the first study in the field of mental health to pool cost-effectiveness outcomes in an aggregate data meta-analysis

    The differential diagnosis of chronic daily headaches: an algorithm-based approach

    Chronic daily headaches (CDHs) refers to primary headaches that happen on at least 15 days per month, for 4 or more hours per day, for at least three consecutive months. The differential diagnosis of CDHs is challenging and should proceed in an orderly fashion. The approach begins with a search for “red flags” that suggest the possibility of a secondary headache. If secondary headaches that mimic CDHs are excluded, either on clinical grounds or through investigation, the next step is to classify the headaches based on the duration of attacks. If the attacks last less than 4 hours per day, a trigeminal autonomic cephalalgia (TAC) is likely. TACs include episodic and chronic cluster headache, episodic and chronic paroxysmal hemicrania, SUNCT, and hypnic headache. If the duration is ≥4 h, a CDH is likely and the differential diagnosis encompasses chronic migraine, chronic tension-type headache, new daily persistent headache and hemicrania continua. The clinical approach to diagnosing CDH is the scope of this review

Then the members of discharge series under uncertainty impact were tested on the calculated values of the reservoir storage volume. The next step was the implementation of the uncertainties of the real discharge series members on the generation of the artificial discharge series of mean monthly discharge using the AR and ARMA generators and the determination of their impact on the calculated values of the reservoir storage volume
