Learning as transformation in the development of expertise by elite indigenous Australian athletes
© 2018 Montenegrin Sports Academy. All rights reserved. This article addresses the lack of attention paid to research on the development of Indigenous sporting expertise from a socio-cultural perspective. It inquires into the role that informal games played in the development of Australian Indigenous AFL and NRL players up to the age of thirteen. The study adopted a combined narrative inquiry and constructivist grounded theory methodology. The study highlighted to central role that informal games played in the development of expertise and a distinctive Aboriginal style of play shaped by Indigenous culture. This article suggests the central role that informal games shaped by Aboriginal culture played in the development of expertise and an Aboriginal style of play. It also suggests the need for coaching beyond Indigenous players to consider the use of games in training regimes
Lithium Prescribing during Pregnancy: A UK Primary Care Database Study
Women taking lithium must decide whether to continue the medication if they conceive or plan to conceive. Little is known about the extent of prescribing of lithium during pregnancy
A predicted astrometric microlensing event by a nearby white dwarf
We used the Tycho-Gaia Astrometric Solution catalogue, part of the Gaia Data
Release 1, to search for candidate astrometric microlensing events expected to
occur within the remaining lifetime of the Gaia satellite. Our search yielded
one promising candidate. We predict that the nearby DQ type white dwarf LAWD 37
(WD 1142-645) will lens a background star and will reach closest approach on
November 11th 2019 ( 4 days) with impact parameter mas. This
will produce an apparent maximum deviation of the source position of
mas. In the most propitious circumstance, Gaia will be able to
determine the mass of LAWD 37 to . This mass determination will
provide an independent check on atmospheric models of white dwarfs with helium
rich atmospheres, as well as tests of white dwarf mass radius relationships and
evolutionary theory
White Paper for Research Beyond 5G
The documents considers both research in the scope of evolutions of the 5G systems (for the period around 2025) and some alternative/longer term views (with later outcomes, or leading to substantial different design choices). This document reflects on four main system areas: fundamental theory and technology, radio and spectrum management; system design; and alternative concepts. The result of this exercise can be broken in two different strands: one focused in the evolution of technologies that are already ongoing development for 5G systems, but that will remain research areas in the future (with “more challenging” requirements and specifications); the other, highlighting technologies that are not really considered for deployment today, or that will be essential for addressing problems that are currently non-existing, but will become apparent when 5G systems begin their widespread deployment
Surface electrons at plasma walls
In this chapter we introduce a microscopic modelling of the surplus electrons
on the plasma wall which complements the classical description of the plasma
sheath. First we introduce a model for the electron surface layer to study the
quasistationary electron distribution and the potential at an unbiased plasma
wall. Then we calculate sticking coefficients and desorption times for electron
trapping in the image states. Finally we study how surplus electrons affect
light scattering and how charge signatures offer the possibility of a novel
charge measurement for dust grains.Comment: To appear in Complex Plasmas: Scientific Challenges and Technological
