Italian Dyslexia Association (Messina section); Orientation and Placement Centre -University of Messina (Italy)Although the number of students with dyslexia enrolled in Italian universities is constantly growing, their presence remains relatively limited. The aim of this study was therefore to investigate the choices made by students with dyslexia in relation to university studies, and the underlying reasons for their choices. This study also compares these choices for students with and without dyslexia. In all, 440 high school students and their families agreed to take part in this project. Socio-demographic data was collected for the 47 students with dyslexia and 47 class-matched students without dyslexia, along with information on their current schools and their future educational plans. A specially developed questionnaire was used for the students, in combination with structured interviews with their families. The results show significant differences between these groups regarding both choices for university studies and the underlying motivations for these choices. Furthermore, certain psychological and emotional factors are implicated here in the decisions of the students with dyslexia regarding both university studies and their underlying reasons. Future research is needed to further investigate these factors in the educational choices of students with dyslexia.Italian Dyslexia Association (Messina section)Orientation and Placement Centre - University of Messina (Italy

Numerical investigation of the performance of Contra-Rotating Propellers for a Remotely Piloted Aerial Vehicle

Abstract The present work aims at the numerical prediction of the performance of a Contra-Rotating Propellers (CRP) system for a Remotely Piloted Aerial Vehicles (RPAV). The CRP system was compared with an equivalent counter-rotating propellers configuration which was set by considering two eccentric propellers which were rotating at the same speed. Each contra-rotating test case was built by varying the pitch angle of blades of the rear propeller, while the front propeller preserved the original reconstructed geometry. Several pitch configurations and angular velocities of the rear propeller was simulated. Comparisons showed an improvement of the propulsive efficiency of the contra-rotating configuration in case of larger pitch angles combined with slower angular velocities of the rear propeller

Enhancing sub-bandgap external quantum efficiency by photomultiplication for narrowband organic near-infrared photodetectors

Detection of electromagnetic signals for applications such as health, product quality monitoring or astronomy requires highly responsive and wavelength selective devices. Photomultiplication-type organic photodetectors have been shown to achieve high quantum efficiencies mainly in the visible range. Much less research has been focused on realizing near-infrared narrowband devices. Here, we demonstrate fully vacuum-processed narrow- and broadband photomultiplication-type organic photodetectors. Devices are based on enhanced hole injection leading to a maximum external quantum efficiency of almost 2000% at −10 V for the broadband device. The photomultiplicative effect is also observed in the charge-transfer state absorption region. By making use of an optical cavity device architecture, we enhance the charge-transfer response and demonstrate a wavelength tunable narrowband photomultiplication-type organic photodetector with external quantum efficiencies superior to those of pin-devices. The presented concept can further improve the performance of photodetectors based on the absorption of charge-transfer states, which were so far limited by the low external quantum efficiency provided by these devices

This paper describes the methodology developed at Politecnico di Torino to support the European Space Agency in the Human Lunar Landing System design activity and to complement the traditional conceptual design with a multidisciplinary set of analyses which includes a thorough assessment of the economic and technological viability of the solution. The paper briefly describes the logic laying behind each of these analyses and it shows the results of the validation of the integrated design methodology, called iDREAM, with an already existing case study, the Exploration Systems Architecture Study-Lunar Surface Access Module spacecraft (ESAS-LSAM). The results are satisfactory and reveals errors lower than 10% in average, perfectly in line with the expectations of a conceptual design phase

The present work aims to report and reflect on the experiences that occurred during the supervised internship, of the Pedagogy course, as well as analyze how the pedagogical projects are planned and executed in the school institution. We developed the project: “Entrepreneurial education: treading sustainable and solidary paths”, proposed by a public institution in the municipality of Guanambi-Bahia. The actions carried out during the development of the project were aimed at promoting experiences related to entrepreneurship for the 5th year students of that institution. During this period, some materials were made by the students so that they could have the opportunity to experience sales and donation activities. In the development of the internship as a research, we used a field diary and carried out an interpretative analysis in dialogue with Pimenta e Lima (2006) and Nery (2007). The supervised internship was essential for us to experience and understand how the school is structured, to deal with people and to develop with them as an organization. It also made it possible to learn to apply the acquired knowledge, in a collaborative and interdisciplinary way. With this, we acquire knowledge and skills that will be extremely important not only in building our career, but also in our personal development.O presente trabalho tem como objetivo relatar e refletir sobre as experiências ocorridas durante a realização do estágio supervisionado, do curso de Pedagogia, bem como, analisar como os projetos pedagógicos são planejados e executados na instituição escolar.

For the first time, grape seed extracts (GSEs), obtained from wine and table cultivars of Vitis vinifera L., cultured in experimental fields of Lazio and Puglia regions of Italy and grown in different agronomic conditions, have been tested on 43 Candida species strains. We demonstrated a significant correlation between the content of the flavan-3-ols in GSEs extracts, with a polymerization degree 654, and anti-Candida activity. Moreover, we demonstrated thatGSEs, obtained from plants cultured with reduced irrigation, showed a content of polymeric flavan-3-ols >250mg/gwith geometric mean MICvalues between 5.7 and 20.2 mg/L against Candida albicans reference strains. GSE, showing 573mg/g of polymeric flavan-3-ols, has been tested in an experimental murine model of vaginal candidiasis by using noninvasive in vivo imaging technique. The results pointed out a significant inhibition of Candida albicans load 5 days after challenge. These findings indicate that GSEs with high content of polymeric flavan-3-ols can be used in mucosal infection as vaginal candidiasis
